Banksy mural rediscovered in Berlin

German gallery uncovers artwork by elusive graffiti artist.

The anonymous British graffiti artist Banksy has enjoyed an international reputation in the since the 90s. One of his murals, Every Picture Tells a Lie, has been meticulously uncovered in a Berlin gallery. Created in 2003 for a Berlin exhibition, the mural was subsequently painted over.

Restorers carefully uncovered the artwork, which portrays winged-soldiers with smiley faces carrying guns, with the words "Every Picture Tells a Lie" scrawled in blood-red paint above them.

The mural is now part of an exhibition of contemporary art gallery Kunstraum Bethanien, titled What Lies Beneath. Banksy’s work often involves removing the context of objects and placing them in different situations.

The exhibit runs until October 23, at which point the piece may be painted over once again or sold if a buyer is found.
