Having acquired the rights to the Beach Boys music catalogue, Fox is planning a new musical featuring their distinct California surf sound.
Erin Brokovitch screenwriter Susannah Grant has penned the screenplay, which is said to re-create the swinging sixties in California.
The production will not be a biopic about the group, but rather in the same vein as the musical Mamma Mia! based the music catalogue of Swedish supergroup, ABBA.
The film will be produced by actor John Stamos (ER), and the duo behind Hairspray and Chicago, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan.
The Beach Boys were rivals of The Beatles in the 60s.
