Beach Boys to release lost album

The Smile Sessions had been shelved for 44 years.

The latest album by legendary Beach Boys, The Smile Sessions, has waited more than 40 years for its official release, reports NME.

Shelved in 1967, The Smile Sessions will be available in three different versions, including a limited edition box set. Although no official release date has been announced, it’s expected out before the end of the year.

Brian Wilson, leader of popular 1960s group, is thrilled that their famous unreleased album is finally coming out.

"I’m looking forward to this collection of the original recordings and having fans hear the beautiful angelic voices of the boys in a proper studio release," he said.

To celebrate the group’s 50th anniversary, there have been reports that the band may reunite, although no dates have been confirmed. Founding guitarist Al Jardine said at the time that the band would "definitely" play "at least one show" this year.

On a 2004 solo album entitled Smile, Wilson recorded his version of the sessions’ material, which he performed on tour in the UK. In September, Wilson plans to return to the UK for another solo tour.
