Beauty tutorials: backstage at Paris Fashion Week

We go backstage at the Paris fashion shows to check out some of the latest beauty trends at the Dior, Lanvin, Issey Miyake and Vanessa Bruno shows.

Hairstylist Guido Palau went for an "easy and cool" look to contrast with the "super sexy and womanly" show at Lanvin. He gave the models a simple ponytail, drenched with Diamond Oil product for a sleek finish.

Makeup artist Pat McGrath put together four looks: a strong eyebrow, a "strong burgundy mouth," a smoky eye, and a strong-lined eye. She wanted the "individual girls" to have a kind of modern punk look.

At Issey Miyake, Wella Professionals Global Creative Director Eugene Souleiman created a look that "comes to life when the girls walk." Starting by spraying the roots with product to create volume, he then worked some static into the hair for lightness and pinned it up in what he called "organized chaos." The girls had simple faces with a nude lip to finish the loo.

Guido Palau produced a "slightly 50s" up-do look at Dior. Hair was treated to look slightly wet and cinematic: "so it feels like she’s caught in a moment, maybe in the rain." Pat McGrath was inspired by early Warhol illustrations with pale colors for a "very modern, very light" look. The models’ pink lips were muted with concealer around the edges, and their faces were finished with a silver eye.

Souleiman was also on hair duties at Vanessa Bruno, where he produced a "classic minimalist hairstyle." Hair was parted in the middle and pulled back behind the ears, with a soft tuft escaping in front: "it’s about perfection and imperfection" he explained. The models wore soft lips, strong eyebrow makeup and a light eyeliner.
