Beer as good as the wine for health?

Researchers say beer has been falsely accused of causing weight gain.

By the look of some ‘beer bellies,’ it is common belief that drinking beer increases waist circumference. However Spanish researchers now state that this belief is quite false. In fact, it says that beer has the same health properties as wine, reports the Daily Mail.

Beer contains folic acid, vitamins, iron and calcium. Like wine, it can provide protection for the cardiovascular system and its alcohol content is lower than many other beverages.

It appears that moderate daily consumption of beer can help reduce the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and can even help you lose weight. The problem is that often, beer drinkers drink too much, eat fatty foods like French fries, and don’t exercise enough – hence, the beer bellies.

The study was conducted among 1,249 men and women over the age of 57. Researchers concluded by suggesting that women drink two glasses of beer per day, while men can drink three.
