Being thin makes women happiest

Women’s happiness measured by a small waistline.

According to a 24-year study from the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, a woman’s weight has a greater effect on her spirits than her love life, reports the Daily Mail.

If women want to be happy, they might better off joining a gym than searching for Mr Right. The study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences finds that women would rather be single and slim than loved and fat, since obesity is associated with much more misery and suffering than being alone.

Although being single is becoming more socially acceptable, the stigma associated with extra pounds has become so prevalent that it can affect almost every aspect of a women’s life. Self-consciousness about weight can effect every waking moment, “because we live in a society that is constantly evaluating shape, size and attractiveness,” said Dr Pam Spurr, psychologist and author of How to be a Happy Human.

“People who are obese are stigmatized by people thinking they are stupid or lazy or just don’t care.”

In addition, the results of the study also reveals that women are happier when they place more importance on building a good home life with their ideal partner than getting ahead in their careers. And for both sexes, in terms of jobs, there was nothing worse than being underworked.

So let’s see: If you’re skinny, overworked (but not too much if you’re a woman) and have a good home life—you must be ecstastic—congratulations!
