Affleck was a guest speaker at the graduation ceremony of a Fairfax, Virginia high school, where his handicapped friend of several years was graduating.
All of the graduates of Falls Church High School were touched by the actor, and his friendship with Joe Kindregan. Kindregan is a 19 year-old student that Affleck met in 1998 on the set of the film Forces of Nature. Kindregan was 10 years old at the time.
Kindregan suffers from a rare genetic abnormality, and since their first meeting, Affleck has been raising funds for research to help find a treatment.
The young man has also had the fortune to visit the sets of other movies that Affleck has made, including Daredevil and Gigli.
