Beyoncé and Jay-Z Are Europe’s Newest Royals
The MTV Europe Awards were held last night (November 5), and crowned Beyoncé and Jay-Z the new king and queen of the music scene.
Without a doubt, Beyoncé was the belle of the ball, dominating the evening with three awards. She earned trophies in the Best Female Artist, Best Song and Best Video categories.
The star’s win for Best Video was sure to bring a smile to Kanye West’s face. At the recent American MTV Awards, West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech because he felt Beyoncé should have won that trophy.
Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z was also a winner for Best Hip-Hop Artist, meaning that the star couple took home 4 trophies from the event.
Held in Berlin, the gala also honoured the 20th anniversary of the falling of the Berlin Wall in 1989. For the special occasion, U2 gave a free performance of 6 songs for a crowd of 10 000 people at the Brandenburg Gate. Ironically, to prevent people without tickets from attending the free show, organisers erected a barrier wall around the stage.
The winners at the MTV Europe Awards are:
- Best Video – Single Ladies – Beyoncé
- Best Song – Halo – Beyoncé
- Best Group – Tokio Hotel
- Best Female Artist – Beyoncé
- Best Male Artist – Eminem
- Best Rock Artist – Green Day
- Best Hip-Hop Artist – Jay-Z
