Aida is a musical drama inspired by the opera of the same name by Giuseppe Verdi. The musical has been produced by Hyperion Theatricals, a division of Disney, with music written by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice.
Disney is hoping to convince the Dreamgirls star to take on the new project. Starring in the live show has been successful for Toni Braxton and Michelle T. Williams.
In the story, a Nubian princess is captured by an Egyptian captain, Radames. He soon falls in love with her and saves her from a life of hard labour, making her a handmaiden to the Egyptian princess Amneris, his future bride. Set against the backdrop of loyalty and betrayal, and forbidden love, Aida is the story of three people who are forced to make difficult choices that will forever alter history.
