Big honour for Justin Bieber

Canadian Justin Bieber sings the opening line of We Are The World.

Young Canadian singing sensation Justin Bieber, 15, was selected to sing the first line of We Are The World. A remake of the famous song was recorded to help survivors of the earthquake disaster in Haiti on January 12.

The song was originally written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie in the mid-1980s to help Ethiopia, a country in the midst of one of the worst famines in history. A remake was recorded last Monday by around 80 artists. Some stars participating in the project included Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Brian Wilson, Natalie Cole, Céline Dion, Josh Groban, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Tony Bennett and, of course, Justin Bieber.

A video of the recording session directed by Canadian filmmaker Paul Haggis will be broadcast exclusively on NBC on February 12 during the Winter Olympics’ opening ceremony.
