Black Eyed Peas Giving Free Concert

The hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas will offer a benefit concert for Africa at the end of the month.

On May 28, the band will perform without charge for 60,000 people in Johannesburg Stadium in South Africa.  It will be the first event for their charity group, Peapod Foundation.  The band’s lead singer, Fergie, explained, "We fly all over the world doing concerts everywhere, and you see a big golf course and it’s all beautiful and in the next block you see cardboard houses, and it’s just inhumane if you don’t do something about that or feel obligated to help in some way.  Some of these kids have never even seen a show in their life, and they’re gonna get to go see a concert … so it’s a beautiful thing."

The foundation is hoping to raise money for area schools.  Nelson Mandela and Oprah Winfrey plan to attend the event.
