National Geographic has announced a very special new documentary based on the lives of a Quebec family, Blink.

“Following a diagnosis that changed the course of their lives, the Pelletier family embarks on a breathtaking journey to see the world through new eyes. National Geographic captures their race against time on a journey filled with love, discovery and unforgettable memories,” reads the description.

The trailer opens on a desert landscape where mother and daughter are glued together. The mother asks her to close her eyes and name her feelings. The child replies that she feels the wind, the sun… Then the mother asks her if she’d be able to enjoy a place like this if she couldn’t see.

Blink follows a family who have been terribly diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa in three of their children. This is a degenerative genetic eye disease characterized by a progressive and gradual loss of vision, usually leading to complete blindness.
