Bonapace method helps reduce childbirth pain by 50%

Alternative natural pain management technique for labor.

According to a recent study, the Bonapace Method delivery technique helps decrease childbirth pain by 50 percent, reports famili.fr.

The Bonapace method is an alternative, natural pain management technique for labor, developed in Canada by Julie Bonapace. The approach is based on fully preparing a couple for what to expect in childbirth, the participation of the father, and it is all-natural, requiring no medical interventions or drugs.

After several years of academic research and practical experiments, the method was devised on the principles of neurophysiology of pain – or how our brain processes pain.

It starts from the principle that the brain cannot register pain in two places at once, and that by creating secondary pain to the labor contraction, it helps the body release endorphins (a natural painkiller) which helps relieve the woman’s pain from a contraction.

During labor, fathers are instructed on how to give a ‘painful massage’ at specific acupuncture points: the hand, the sacrum, and the calf. There are also ‘soft massage’ techniques to use between the contractions, with the partner gently massaging her back to help the body recover and prepare for the next one.
