Boy oh Boy Chanel

New handbag collection named after Coco Chanel’s true love.

Upscale French fashion house Chanel will launch the new Boy collection of women’s handbags this autumn, reports the Luxury Blog.

Inspired by a hunter’s cartridge bag carried by Coco Chanel, the new Boy collection is a nod to Captain Arthur Edward "Boy" Capel, the great love of Coco Chanel’s life.

Designer of the bag, Karl Lagerfeld offered his own take on the history of the Boy collection, explaining that "Chanel used men’s underwear to make dresses; she had this boyish attitude, in fact it is the very spirit of Chanel. She got it from Boy Capel, the great love of her life, which, incidentally, explains why the new bag is called the Boy Chanel."

Aimed at women, the Boy purses are designed to be worn cross-body, with a simpler, more masculine style including strong angular lines, and chunky metal embellishments of clasps and chains.

The glazed calfskin leather clutch, purse, and tote come in three colors: flat red, brilliant ivory, or intense grey, and will be arrive in Chanel boutiques this September priced at $2,500 to $4,300.

As she specialized in simple suits, dresses, women’s pants, and costume jewelry, the look of the Boy collection embodies the androgynous charm the designer was known for. The basic silhouettes of her timeless designs have remained consistent from generation to generation, and today, Chanel is most famous for the ‘little black dress.’
