Brad Pitt buys rights to true crime story

Actor acquires rights to convicted drug dealer’s story about going undercover at psychiatric hospital to get confessions from serial killer.

Actor Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, has acquired the rights to the novel In with the Devil, the true story of James Keene, co-written by Hillel Levin, a convicted drug dealer who goes undercover at a mental institution to get confessions from a serial killer.

Keene, the son of a former police officer who went from football star to drug dealer, made a bargain with the FBI for early release if he went undercover at a psychiatric hospital and befriended a serial killer to coax confessions out of him.

Pitt wants to play the role of Keene, but other details have not yet been finalized. In the meantime, the actor is in full promotion mode for his animated film, Megamind, as the voice of Metro Man.

Megamind is due in theaters on November 5. His next film, Moneyball, comes out in September, 2011; and in November, 2011, his voice work can be heard in the 3-D Happy Feet 2.
