Bret Michaels cancels charity concert due to illness

Poison frontman is forced to cancel charity performance due to flu.

Poison frontman Bret Michaels was forced to cancel a charity concert in Chicago, Illinois this Sunday (August 14) due to illness, reports Contact Music.

Michaels was scheduled to perform as part of the XSport Fitness Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon, but severe dehydration and influenza made the performance impossible. About 25,000 runners competed in support of the American Cancer Society.

"We are sorry to announce that Bret Michaels was not able to take the stage this morning due to a sudden bout of severe dehydration and the flu," event organizers said in a statement.

"The entire Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series family wishes Bret a quick and healthy recovery and we look forward to his participation at our upcoming events."

The musician took to Twitter to express his own disappointment: "Not only feeling bad physically, but also feeling bummed about missing the show today in Chicago. Such great fans! Promise to make it up to you next year," he wrote.
