Bret Michaels is happy to be alive

Bret Michaels feels very fortunate to be alive right now.

Rocker Bret Michaels is not complaining about his recent 12-day hospitalization following a brain hemorrhage. Instead he is feeling very "lucky to be alive."

In the latest issue of People magazine, Michaels, 47, speaks out for the first time about what happened, including the moment he arrived at the hospital. He was rushed to hospital on April 23 with severe head pains.

The lead singer of Poison has two girls, 9-year old Raine Elizabeth and 5-year old Jorja Bleu. He remembers asking the doctor: "Am I dying? If I’m dying, I want to see my kids, but if I have a chance, I don’t want them to see me in this condition."

Michaels’ doctor revealed this week that the singer had left the hospital less than two weeks after suffering the brain hemorrhage.

The star is now at an undisclosed physical therapy rehabilitation centre. His doctor remains optimistic about Michaels’ recovery, saying: "I really expect that he will fortunately make a 100 percent recovery."
