Brian Wilson wins award at NXNE in Toronto

Beach Boys founder presented with lifetime achievement award tonight.

Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson will be presented a lifetime achievement award in Toronto today (June 16), as part of the NXNE festival, reports Spinner.

This is the first year that the music festival has given out such an award, and the prolific Wilson will be on hand to accept. The awards ceremony, hosted by Canadian singer-songwriter Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, takes place tonight at the Hyatt Regency hotel in the city’s core, beginning at 6:15 p.m. ET.

The ceremony is open to the public, but NXNE pass holders get priority entry to the free event, which will likely fill up quickly.

The first 50 festival pass holders will also receive a spot in the rush line for Wilson’s June 18 concert at Massey Hall, a stop on his cross-Canada Brian Wilson Reimagines George Gershwin tour.

"I don’t look forward to all that travel," Wilson told the Toronto Sun. "That’s hard. I just look forward to the audiences and how they clap and how they yell ‘Hey Brian, we like your music!’"
