Bridge Over Troubled Water goes into the Hall of Fame

Simon & Garfunkel’s legendary song will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The song Bridge Over Troubled Water is getting its place in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The song was written by Paul Simon in 1969. He recorded the classic in 1970 along with his partner in Simon and Garfunkel, Art Garfunkel.

The duo dominated the 1960s folk scene with the likes of Joan Baez and Bob Dylan before he traded in his acoustic guitar for an electric one. Bridge Over Troubled Water won a Grammy Award for Song of the Year back then, as well as Album of the Year for the album of the same name.

A while after it was released in 1970, the song rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It stayed in the top spot for six consecutive weeks.

During the 40th anniversary of the Songwriters Hall of Fame gala on June 17, Simon & Garfunkel will accept the Towering Song Award for the song. Critics consider Bridge Over Troubled Water to be the ultimate perfect song.

Paul Simon, himself, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as a songwriter in 1982.

Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel reunited recently to perform a series of shows around the world. They will come north of the border this summer, stopping in Vancouver on July 3, Edmonton on July 6, Winnipeg on July 8, Saskatoon on July 9, Toronto on July 19, Ottawa on July 21, Montreal on July 22 and, finally, Halifax on July 24 and 25.
