Producers of the film and the star are being sued, claiming the story was stolen from him.
According to Christopher Merrill, it was his writing behind the film Crossroads, released in 2002.
According to the claim filed in Los Angeles, California, there are "disturbing similarities to Dream Alive, written by Merrill.
The amount of the claim hasn’t yet been revealed, however it may be in the millions.
Crossroads has had much success, taking close to $60 million world wide.
