Brush 2x a day = healthy heart

People who have poor oral hygiene are more likely to have heart problems.

You should brush your teeth at least twice a day, not only for hygiene reasons but also to maintain a healthy heart.

Researchers have been increasingly studying possible links between oral hygiene and heart disease. The hypotheses seem to be confirmed as more research is done, says the British Medical Journal.

A team at the University College London wanted to know if brushing teeth had an impact on heart disease.

11,000 people participated in the study that assessed their lifestyle, such as physical activity, smoking and oral hygiene.

62% of respondents said they see a dentist every six months and 71% brushed their teeth at least twice a day.

After taking certain risk factors into account such as family history, obesity, smoking and social class, they found that people who do not brush their teeth at least twice a day have a 70% higher risk of suffering from heart disease than those who have better brushing habits.
