Calling All Robots Inspired by Beowulf

The screenwriter for Superman Returns, Michael Dougherty, was inspired by the film Beowulf while creating his new film, Calling All Robots.

Michael Dougherty teamed up with Walt Disney Pictures and ImageMovers to create the animated flim Calling All Robots. This film uses the same technology used in the production Beowulf, reported Variety.

The plot of Calling All Robots remains a secret. Nevertheless, Dougherty has revealed that the science fiction adventure film is reminiscent of the "old Godzilla movies."

"I grew up watching Godzilla movies. This film is very much rooted in those movies," Daugherty says.

Creating Calling All Robots emerged from the technology used to produce Beowulf. The software allows for characters to become transposed onto the computer screen and for their movements to be digitally-enhanced. "It’s a film we just could not make in live action or traditional animation," said Dougherty, who began his career as an animator.
