Canada Day in the capital

July 1 festivities planned throughout Ottawa-Gatineau.

For the national holiday tomorrow, July 1, a host of activities, events and shows await citizens and visitors from coast to coast. Among them, the nation’s capital Ottawa has traditionally hosted one of the biggest parties on Parliament Hill – and this year is no different.

In celebrating Canada’s 144th birthday, the streets and parks of the Ottawa-Gatineau region will come to life. A royal visit from newlyweds, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, is expected to generate a massive turnout.

Prince William and his wife, Catherine Middleton will be attending festivities, which begin at 9:00 a.m. on Parliament Hill. Dance groups, drummers, and musicians of all kinds will be entertaining visitors.

Musicians include Great Big Sea, Sam Roberts Band, Jenn Grant, and Pierre Lapointe among many others. Of course, the evening will end with a spectacular firework display.

The official website for Canada Day conveniently includes a comprehensive search engine. Free bus service and shuttles will be available as well.
