Canadian Abortions On the Decline
Statistics Canada reports that the number of abortions in the country has declined since 2005, particularly among women younger than 20 years of age.
96 815 abortions were administered in 2005, compared to 100 039 the year before, representing a 3.2% decrease.
For several years, the rate of abortions has been dropping in Canada. For example, 111 659 women aborted their pregnancies in 1996.
According to Corinne Leclercq, the president of the Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Quebec, one of the factors behind the decrease could include the country’s facilitation of the morning-after pill.
