Again this year, a Quebec film was selected to represent Canada in the contention of Oscar nominations.

This time, the film by Xavier Dolan, J’ai tué ma mère, could be heading to Hollywood. The love-hate story between Hubert (Dolan) and his mother (Anne Dorval) has already made waves at the Directors’ Fortnight during the Cannes Film Festival, where the young director earned three awards.

The official nominations for the Best Foreign Language Film category will be announced on February 2, 2010. The Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 7.

Last year, the film Ce qu’il faut pour vivre by Benoit Pilon, represented Canada, but was not chosen as a finalist.

In 2003, The Barbarian Invasions by Denys Arcand won the prestigious statue.
