Cannes Announces the Winners

The Cannes Film Festival awarded the French film, Entre les murs, with the top prize.

The film Entre les murs, by Laurent Cantet, earned the Palme d’Or at the 61st annual Cannes Film Festival yesterday (May 25).  The film’s director was present to accept the award, along with several of the teenagers who starred in the movie.

Entre les murs was chosen by a unanimous decision made by Sean Penn and his panel of judges.  The film based on a book follows the life of a teacher and his students in a French school with a bad reputation.

The second place prize went to Gomorra by Matteo Garrone.  Benicio Del Toro earned an award for his work in the film Che, and Brazilian actress Sandra Corveloni was recognized for her work in the film Linha de Passe.

The 61st Cannes Film Festival also payed tribute to Catherine Deneuve and Clint Eastwood for their lifelong careers in film.
