Carine Roitfeld fired from Vogue?

Rumours circulating that French Vogue’s editor-in-chief was fired by Condé Nast.

Like a scene out of The Devil Wears Prada, rumours have begun to circulate that Carine Roitfeld, who announced last Friday (December 17) that she would be leaving her position as editor-in-chief for Condé Nast’s French Vogue, had actually been fired, reports Coco Perez.

Several sources indicated that publisher Condé Nast was fed up with all the bad press Roitfeld, 56, had been receiving. Earlier this year, Roitfeld was blacklisted by designer Balenciaga, which claimed she helped another designer copy their designs.

Another source believes Roitfeld was fired because she refused to devote an entire issue to the brands owned by LVMH. In a recent interview with Roitfeld, WWD noted speculation that Roitfeld might have been under pressure to include more advertisers in her shoots, but she continued to publish stylish pictures of clothes she liked.

French Vogue employees say that when they arrived at work last Friday, there was an e-mail announcing that their editor-in-chief for the past 10 years was leaving. Roitfeld stated that she was resigning from the fashion magazine in order to devote more time to personal projects.

In the face of these rumours, Condé Nast has had nothing but praise for the employee who was responsible for helping raise the magazine’s circulation by 45 per cent during her tenure.

"It is impossible to overstate Carine’s powerful contribution to Vogue and to the fields of fashion and magazine publishing. Under her direction, Vogue Paris received record levels of circulation, advertising and editorial success," said Jonathan Newhouse, CEO of Condé Nast International. "Vogue Paris has established itself as one of the most iconic magazines in the world, with huge influence in the field of fashion and photography."
