Carnival Cruise Lines welcomed the 100th cruise ship to its fleet yesterday (April 27) at a ceremony in Monfalcone, Italy where the vessel was constructed, reports TravelPress.
To celebrate this historic milestone, all passengers aboard the company’s 100-ship fleet will take part in a 227,000-person toast tomorrow (April 29), in what is believed to be the largest at-sea celebration of its kind.
The new ship, named the Carnival Magic, introduces a range of new features to the Carnival fleet. The RedFrog Pub is a Caribbean-themed drinking establishment with its own private label beer. Cucina del Capitano is an Italian-inspired family restaurant based on the heritage of Carnival ship captains. SportSquare, a large open-air recreation area, will introduce the world’s first ropes course and outdoor fitness area at sea.
Other features of the ship include a water park with a 94-foot water-slide, a wraparound deck with outdoor barbecue area called the Lanai, and the Ocean Plaza, an indoor-outdoor cafe and music venue.
Carnival Magic will begin her inaugural voyage on May 1, with a nine-day Mediterranean cruise from Venice to Barcelona. After a sailing a series of seven-to-12-day cruises in the Mediterranean, the Carnival Magic will head to Galveston, Texas on October 16 to begin offering year-round Caribbean departures.
