Carnival Cruises returns to the Mediterranean

A ship under construction in Italy will sail the Mediterranean next year for Carnival Cruises.

An almost exact replica of the Carnival Dream, the Carnival Magic is a ship being built right now at an Italian shipyard. It will be ready to set sail next year in the Mediterranean, the newest ship in the Carnival Cruises fleet.

This marks a return to European and northern African waters for the American company. It dropped this route two years ago during the global economic recession.

According to information provided by the cruise line, the boat will be based in the port of Barcelona, Spain. It will tour throughout the Mediterranean and visit coastal cities in France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Morocco and the Canary Islands.

Carnival Cruises offers 7, 10, 12 or 14 day-cruises. Carnival Magic will be 306 metres long and have no fewer than 14 different decks. It will be able to accommodate and entertain 3,652 passengers and house 1,369 crew members.

The company has invested $740 million US to build the Carnival Magic. The cruise market is growing every year, mainly driven by an aging population that appreciates the all-inclusive nature of this voyage which stops at several destinations.
