Carrie Underwood ignored mum’s beauty advice

Carrie Underwood wishes she had listened to her mum’s skin care advice when she was younger.

Carrie Underwood wishes she had taken her mother’s advice about skin care.

The 29-year-old country singer – who is now the face of beauty brand Olay – admits she should have paid more attention to her skin when she was younger.

She said: ”If I could go back and talk to my 15-year-old self I’d be like, ‘Seriously, listen to your mom’.

”Drink more water, put more sunscreen on, moisturise. There are a lot of people like me who wish they did more.”

The ‘Blown Away’ hitmaker – who has thrown her weight behind an Olay charity campaign to boost the self-esteem of women undergoing treatment for cancer – believes that as well as being wise, her mother Carol was also one of her greatest cheerleaders.

She said: ”My mom is a great example to me and my sisters, she’s just the best.

”If I ever had one of those days when it’s like, ‘I don’t feel so great about myself,’ she’d always tell me, ‘You’re beautiful, you’re funny, you sing well.’ She was always a positive person in my life, which is important. People need more positive influences.”

But with the ageing process just around the corner, Carrie has finally come up with a simple regime to care for her face.

She said: ”It doesn’t have to be complicated. I don’t have time for complicated. I don’t have space in my luggage for 20 things that do different things for my skin — I don’t know anyone who does.”

The reason she is often short of room in her case could have something to do with her penchant for make-up.

Talking to People Magazine, she added: ”I love to play with makeup. I will go into a makeup store and walk out and not even know what happened, carrying this giant bag of stuff. But I can, because I’m on stage — I can wear things that I can’t otherwise. So I have a little bit of everything in my kit.”
