Casting call for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Robin Wright could join Daniel Craig in the English film adaptation of this popular novel.

Producer David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) is quickly filling the cast for his next film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Shooting is slated to begin this fall in order to meet a scheduled release date of December 21, 2011.

Daniel Craig (James Bond) with play the lead role of journalist Mikael Blomkvist. The other lead role, that of computer hacker extraordinaire Lisbeth Salander, still needs to be filled.

Deadline New York reports Robin Wright (Princess Bride) is in talks to play Erika Berger, Millennium magazine editor and one of Blomkvist’s lovers. Her deal would include options for the second and third films in the trilogy, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.

Stellan Skarsgard is also in negotiations to play Martin Vanger, CEO of Vanger Enterprises and brother of the girl who went missing 40 years ago.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the first book in the hugely successful trilogy by Stieg Larsson. The Swedish journalist/author died shortly after dropping off the manuscripts for these three novels and so never got the chance to witness their worldwide success.
