Springfield still lives in fear after Trump’s remarks

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine dispatched state troops to support overwhelmed police officers due to several reported bomb threats, including in Springfield schools.

These alerts were triggered by misleading statements made by former President Donald Trump, which were heard by over 67 million viewers during the presidential debate broadcast by ABC News.

The city of Springfield, Ohio, has reportedly received more than 30 bomb threats to date, thankfully unfounded, since Trump relayed rumors, reported by his running mate JD Vance, that local Haitian immigrants were eating local pets and geese in city parks, plunging the city into chaos and fear.

Getty Images

In response to these threats, which fortunately turned out to be hoaxes, DeWine stressed the importance of protecting students and announced the deployment of 36 Ohio State Highway Patrol officers to the Springfield school district, which should provide some reassurance to parents.

Enhanced security measures will include a thorough inspection of each school before students arrive, as well as a continuous presence throughout the day.

Many, however, have decided not to send their children to school…

Getty Images

The governor, who recently asked Trump and JD Vance to stop spreading false rumors to no avail, asserted that the children of this community, in the grip of a stressful situation, deserve to go to school, and that parents need to be reassured that their children are safe.

He also stressed the importance of taking every threat seriously, even if it turns out to be unfounded.

Getty Images

DeWine said that, despite the increase in threats, none of the reported incidents fortunately proved valid. The majority of the bomb threats appear to have been made by foreign actors seeking to sow chaos within the Springfield community and the United States.

The FBI and local police are working together to investigate these worrying incidents, and bomb-detecting dogs have been deployed in the area since the events began.

Getty Images

Since Trump and his running mate JD Vance’s controversial remarks, Springfield schools have suffered evacuations and temporary closures, as have local hospitals and municipal buildings.

Tensions within the community have been exacerbated by statements made by Trump and JD Vance, who have stepped up racist rhetoric against the region’s Haitian immigrants, calling them illegal when they are legally settled, while calling for their mass deportation if elected.

Clearly, since the unfounded allegations against its immigrants, Springfield has been living in fear.

Russians are targeting Kamala Harris, warns Microsoft

Disinformation videos designed to influence American voters and undermine their confidence in Vice President Kamala Harris have emerged in recent weeks. According to Microsoft, these videos were produced by tech groups linked to Russia.

Microsoft reports that foreign operations, which initially struggled to adjust their tactics after President Joe Biden withdrew from the election race, have now become more aggressive in targeting Kamala Harris.

Their strategies include amplifying alleged leaks and hacked documents with the aim of distorting public perception and generating negative opinion of Kamala Harris.

Getty Images

Among these videos, one stands out for its disturbing content and the fact that it has been seen and shared by millions. It tells the story of a young black girl who claims that Kamala Harris paralyzed her following a car accident involving an alleged hit-and-run in San Francisco in 2011.

The video was released by KBSF TV, a fictitious company allegedly based in San Francisco, created by the Russians a few days before it was posted, according to the Microsoft report. In addition to this fabricated video, the website offered plagiarized articles to reinforce its appearance of credibility.

In addition, the evidence presented in this fictitious story, including X-rays, came from medical journals, and the spelling of the alleged victims’ names was incorrect.

Getty Images

Microsoft’s report confirms that this story is a fabrication of a Russian disinformation operation called Storm-1516.

Another story fabricated by the Storm-1516 operation showed in a video an attack at a Donald Trump rally, allegedly orchestrated by Kamala Harris supporters against an event attendee.

Getty Images

Also according to the report, Storm-1679, another Russian operation that targeted the Paris Olympics, recently redirected its forwards to Kamala Harris.

One of the many videos associated with Storm-1679 showed a fake billboard in New York broadcasting false claims about Harris’ policies. This video was seen by thousands of users on X shortly after its initial post… on Telegram.

While Microsoft claims that the goal in publishing these reports is to foster education and defend institutions from foreign interference, this report reveals that major tech companies actually hold far more information on this subject than the public imagines.

Trump wants Canadian water to solve California’s problems

Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, made some strong statements while on his golf course in the Los Angeles area, while during his press conference in which he assured Californians that they would have “more water” than ever by pointing out that the Canadian province of British Columbia had “a very large faucet”.

Trump wants to use water from the Columbia River, located in British Columbia, to alleviate the water shortage in California. He compared the river to a huge faucet that, once opened, would provide “more water than you’ve ever seen” to the state.

Getty Images

Trump even declared that it would only take a day. However, many feel that his comments are simply intended to appeal to potential voters, without taking into account the feasibility of such a project or its cost.

According to Tricia Stadnyk, professor of environmental engineering at the University of Calgary, interviewed by CTV News, Trump completely misunderstands the distribution of water between countries. She points out that the Columbia River flows from Columbia Lake in British Columbia through Washington and Oregon to the Pacific Ocean, but is still a long way from California, making a simple redirection impossible.

Getty Images

One thing’s for sure: redirecting water from Canada to California isn’t just a matter of turning on a tap in a day, as Donald Trump promises.

Tupperware files for bankruptcy!

Tupperware Brands, headquartered in Orlando, Florida, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

This decision marks a turning point in the company’s 78-year history.

Tupperware’s popularity has plummeted in recent years, as the company has struggled to adapt to changing consumer tastes, particularly among younger people who favor more eco-friendly storage solutions.

Getty Images

What’s more, it’s also struggling to cope with competition offering more affordable prices.

The famous kitchenware company has announced its intention to continue operating during the bankruptcy proceedings and has asked the court for permission to sell the business to protect the brand while it overcomes its financial difficulties.

Getty Images

The company, which once revolutionized food preservation and is present in 70 countries worldwide, became famous for its direct sales system and vendor-led Tupperware parties.

However, this situation leaves many customers and sales reps in a state of uncertainty, even though Tupperware representatives are trying to reassure that they will do everything in their power to save the brand.

Meta bans Russian-controlled RT

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and Chairman of Meta, has just banned the Kremlin-controlled TV channel RT from all his Meta platforms worldwide.

The decision comes amid recent revelations of Russian foreign interference, with US authorities discovering that the company had paid several million dollars to influencers and a far-right US media outlet to promote Russian propaganda in the 2024 presidential elections.

Getty Images

A spokesman for Meta said that, after careful consideration, applications linked to Rossiya Segodnya, nicknamed RT, and its related entities are now banned worldwide.

The Biden administration recently uncovered a Russian plot to influence the 2024 elections. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland accused RT of being involved in this plan at the behest of the Kremlin, claiming that the channel had paid nearly $10 million to a far-right American media company, which then paid right-wing influencers to produce content in line with Kremlin ideologies.

Getty Images

The influencers grouped under Tenet Media broadcast pro-Trump, anti-Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, pro-Russian, anti-Ukrainian propaganda content on several platforms, including Meta, X and YouTube, as well as criticism of Bill 19 and women’s voting rights.

Capture/TimPool

They also promoted Project 2025, disseminated videos of civil protests and content inciting civil war, while criticizing the Black Lives Matter movement and Dr. Anthony Fauci, as well as other rhetoric potentially dangerous to democracy. They supported several controversial personalities, including Laura Loomer, Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson, the latter of whom recently directed a promotional video for a Russian grocery store… we remember!

Some of the alleged influencers involved, who presented themselves as victims of the scheme when the DOJ announced it, were receiving up to $400,000 a month for their content, with payments coming from the Russian media channel RT. Although they were banned from YouTube in early September, some were supported by Elon Musk, who interacted with them on his X platform.

It’s hard to say whether X will adopt the same stance as Meta and YouTube on this issue, but let’s remember that Elon Musk was recently forced to reveal the investors in his acquisition of Twitter, now known as X. These investors included names such as Sean Diddy Combs, but it was also discovered that Russian oligarchs were among those who invested in X.

Getty Images

Meta’s ban on Russian state media will no doubt play a crucial role in the debate on media accountability, as well as the role that technology companies can play in the fight against disinformation and foreign interference.

Donald Trump launches his cryptocurrency company

In a livestream interview on X, Trump introduced his new company, World Liberty Financial, noting that the management of this cryptocurrency company would be entrusted to his children, with Don Jr. occupying a leading role in the company.

Trump thus seems to have changed his mind about digital currencies, which he had previously strongly criticized during his presidential term.

In 2019, he tweeted several times on the subject, stating in particular that he was not a fan of Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, which he considered not to be money and whose value is extremely volatile and speculative.

He also argued that cryptocurrencies could facilitate illegal activities such as money laundering and terrorist financing.

According to Trump in 2019, the United States has a strong currency, with the dollar being the world’s stable and reliable reserve currency.

Trump has changed his stance and now expresses enthusiasm for the future of cryptocurrencies.

With the help of his sons and partners, led by Don Jr., he now presents cryptocurrencies as a means of achieving financial independence from traditional banks, which he and his family believe are biased towards conservatives.

According to Don Jr. during the livestream, World Liberty Financial was conceived as a lending and borrowing service designed to simplify crypto-currency transactions, offering a path to financial emancipation.
