Jake Allen knows he’s not there to replace Carey Price

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they have signed goaltender Jake Allen to a two-year contract extension starting in 2023-2024 and worth $3.85M annually. This is news that many have been waiting for given the strong rumors surrounding the CH golf tournament. It has confirmed that the Tricolore are confident that Allen will be able to guard the net during the rebuild.

As my colleague Felix Forget analyzed yesterday, Allen says he’s ready to mentor the youngsters and help the rebuild go smoothly. Another element of Jake Allen’s press conference that also got attention was when CH #34 said he clearly wasn’t there to replace Carey Price.

Here is the full quote from Jake Allen’s comments about Carey Price.

Allen’s statement clearly shows that the Carey Price era is now over and that Price has most likely already played his last game with the CH, so Allen is clearly showing that he knows he is not the CH’s goalie of the future, but simply the transition goalie.

At 32 years old, the Tricolore goaltender is aware that he will not be the headliner of the Red and White for many years like Carey Price was. He also knows that he will most likely not lead the CH to its 25th Stanley Cup in its history. We understand that Allen is realistic and that he was not sold a dream by Kent Hughes to stay in Montreal.

Nobody forced him to extend his contract with a team in the early stages of rebuilding. He loves the city and wants to pass on his experience and advice to the youngsters in the organization (especially the young goalies like Cayden Primeau). Allen will allow the youngsters to develop without always losing 7-2 or 5-1.

In short, it’s really good news for Kent Hughes and his team to have a solid transition goalie like this.

Sean Avery made a fool of himself by threatening teenagers

Sean Avery, who played 580 NHL games while spending 1533 minutes in the dungeon, made a fool of himself last weekend by “poking” some badly parked people.

So he started yelling for the cars to be moved, but the scene quickly escalated, creating a massive argument lasting several minutes.

The former National League MVP threatened to smash the windshield wipers of poorly parked cars in the neighborhood…

Among the people he yelled at were teenagers!

“Man, you’re too little to try to challenge somebody. Shut up!”

Moreover, during the argument, Avery called some individuals an offensive term.

The worst part of it all is that Avery wasn’t at home!

No, he was guarding a friend’s residence and was convinced that the cars were parked illegally.

In this clip, the three men are having an intense discussion about something that appears to be the positioning of a defenseman.

A violent fight broke out during a White Sox-Padres duel

An absurd scene occurred during the White Sox-Padres duel last Sunday when a fan filmed two men brawling.

The fight didn’t last long as one of the men knocked out his opponent with a good right hand, only to push him over the row of seats.

https://twitter.com/Alx_Hernan18/status/1576695273786527744

The worst part was that people tried to intervene, and the one who sent his opponent over also threw a “defender” over the row.

It became a “rumble”, so several fans fled the area to avoid getting hit!

This is not the first rumble of the fall at Petco Park as there was one during a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers before.

By the way, the Chicago White Sox have postponed this duel against the San Diego Padres 2-1.

LeBron James or Michael Jordan? A former NBA star speaks out!

Gary Payton, the former Seattle SuperSonics star point guard who went toe-to-toe with Shawn Kemp in the mid-1990s, offered a bombshell statement about the robust LeBron-Jordan debate.

“LeBron James is by far a better all-around basketball player than Michael Jordan!”

https://twitter.com/HoopMixOnly/status/1575588875342610434

This statement will further reignite a never-ending debate between the two greatest players in NBA history, regardless of the order.

If LeBron has a more versatile game, the MJ faithful will argue that he has six championship rings with the same team, the Chicago Bulls.

But without Scottie Pippen… would he have done it?

In the KING‘s case, he has four championships with three different clubs, the Miami Heat (2x), the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers, which is far from trivial.

In short, the incisive comments rain under this publication, here is a pro MJ and a pro BronBron!

Now it’s your turn!

Cole Caufield: Martin St-Louis wants to make him a better player, not a better scorer

Yesterday was a game of ups and downs for the Habs. It wasn’t perfect, but in the end, there were several players that stood out against the Winnipeg Jets. One of them was Cole Caufield. I didn’t say much about him this morning in my review of the game because I wanted to write about him. After all, for the second time in two pre-games, he threaded the needle. This guy is a scorer and clearly knows how to use his shot.

But that’s not what I wanted to talk about this morning because Cole, whether he’s with Nick Suzuki or not, can find the back of the net. That’s his trademark and that’s why he’s so beloved.

In fact, I wanted to talk a little bit about how Martin St-Louis is going to coach him this year.

How is he going to make sure the kid progresses? The question of CC’s progression was asked yesterday to the coach, who said (in a very thorough answer) that Caufield is the kind of guy who is going to help his team more by being a good field hockey player and not just a good goal scorer.

Obviously, St. Louis wants to see the youngster score since it’s his bread and butter. That said, he doesn’t just want Caufield to be a goal scorer and he wants to make sure he can play well on 200 feet. Was St-Louis still thinking about Evgenii Dadonov’s end of the game when he made those comments?

For my part, I liked St-Louis’ answer. After all, it’s true that a complete job helps the whole club and that’s how the club will progress, via the youngster. And with the CH development department, which does everything possible to make practices realistic, one can think that during practices, Caufield will be put in situations where the CH will want to develop him “without the puck”, as the coach often says.

In practice, Adam Nicholas doesn’t like to see a player try to hit 20 shots in a row because that never happens in a game. What does happen is that in a few moments, a player has to recognize when to use a slap shot. The image of a guy practicing golf really speaks to me.

I love golf. When I go to the practice green, I’m a superstar, I play like a zero handicap golfer, but once I get on the course, it’s different. You have to execute and remember that.

Adam Nicholas

The only caveat I want to make about #22 is that Caufield must not neglect his defense, but more importantly he must not forget that he is a scorer first. His defensive game can’t make him lose his identity, last year under Dominique Ducharme he lost his identity trying to fix his defense, we’ll remember that.Obviously he has to learn to play without the puck and play on 200 feet and I have a feeling that St. Louis last year let him do that more to regain his confidence before he tackled his defense this year.

If that is the case, that will be fine because you need everyone to play as a team, what I bring up, with that said, is the fact that a middle ground needs to be found so that Caufield is not sent back into an offensive lethargy like they were last year. Caufield will have to give some to his coach to be able to make up for some defensive deficiencies later on. Remember also that CC will be a restricted free agent next summer… and a contract, for scorer, is earned by scoring. Caufield won’t want to neglect this aspect of his game, but he will certainly have to “meet his coach in the middle”, as they say.

Martin St-Louis has a new darling

Owen Beck has been on the lips of a multitude of fanatics due to his outfit since the opening of training camp, including the rookie tournament.

The 33rd overall pick in the last draft is undoubtedly one of Martin St.Louis‘ favorites, who has been praising the 18-year-old.

On Monday night, the Habs took on the New Jersey Devils, and once again, Beck was a leader, once again impressing the legend behind the bench.

In some ways, he is the new darling of St. Louis, which could certainly get him to the NHL in the near future.

His shot, even though it hit the post, surprised many, especially since he came within a quarter of an inch of tying the score.

Beck probably won’t get a job this year, but he’ll leave quite a calling card as he compares himself to Phillip Danault.

A fight involving the former captain of the Laval Rocket creates quite a debate!

The Pittsburgh Penguins played their first exhibition game on Sunday against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Xavier Ouellet took advantage of the opportunity by throwing down the gloves against 6-foot-4 Joshua Dunne .

The former Laval Rocket captain conceded 4 inches to the Jackets’ behemoth, but as TVA Sports’ Twitter manager rightly pointed out, that didn’t stop Ouellet from serving him three blows.

Unsurprisingly, under the tweet of this fight, many fans were very vocal about the fights in the NHL. Let’s just say that some were actually quite incisive.

“Thank you @TVASports not with you that we will decrease the culture of violence in field hockey! When will there be a top 10 of Dave Morissette’s fights?” –Maxime Simard
