Red Bull shaken by Christian Horner scandal

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner is facing widespread criticism following allegations of misconduct. A total of 79 emails, including screenshots of alleged WhatsApp conversations between Horner, Liberty Media and an unknown party, have been leaked.

The group includes F1 team officials and media.

The documents reportedly contain explicit material, such as nude photos of an unidentified man, suggestive texts and photos of Horner wearing various outfits. Some of the messages refer to a person called Geri, allegedly an allusion to Horner’s wife Geri Halliwell, who was a member of the Spice Girls.

Horner continues to maintain his innocence, however. He said through a spokeswoman that he respected the integrity and conclusions of an independent investigation, which dismissed all accusations.

Jos Verstappen, Max’s father, publicly called on Horner to resign, saying the controversy could destabilize Red Bull’s environment and its championship wins. The Daily Mail’s publication of his disapproval adds a new layer to the internal dynamics within the organization, as tensions appear to be spreading.

The announcement comes after an internal Red Bull statement exonerating Horner of any misconduct following allegations of inappropriate behavior by an employee. Red Bull Racing has stated publicly that it is confident of the impartiality, fairness and thoroughness of the investigation.

The insistence of Toto Wolff, head of rival team Mercedes F1, which has seen its dominance of the sport diminish due to Red Bull’s recent successes, is another element stirring the pot.

According to rumors, Wolff is even taking advantage of the situation to try and lure Max Verstappen to Mercedes, having lost Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari for next year.

The good news so far is that Geri Horner has publicly declared her support for her husband, and Red Bull’s majority shareholder has also reiterated his allegiance.

Elon Musk sues OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman

Elon Musk, in a move that highlights the tensions between big tech and AI ethics, has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Sam Altman, its CEO, over the ChatGPT platform.

In this complaint, OpenAI is accused of having strayed from its initial ideals and of having favored profits over its primary mission: to create artificial intelligence for humanity.

Its argument rests on the idea that OpenAI, at the outset, was a non-profit entity which, according to the complaint, had promised to make open source contributions to AI.

In the lawsuit, Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman are accused of breaching their founding agreement after OpenAI began moving toward a more profit-oriented structure.

In particular, the lawsuit highlights Microsoft’s significant financial ties. Musk believes that Microsoft’s investment in OpenAI and its new “capped-profit” business model, adopted to attract funding, was the catalyst for this change.

Werewolf pleads guilty of a string of bank robberies

Kansas City Chiefs fan Xavier Babudar, better known as “ChiefsAholic”, pleaded guilty to bank robbery and money laundering recently.

Remember that this over-the-top fanatic, who wears a werewolf disguise with a Chiefs jersey, caused a furor on social media last year due to a months-long manhunt (following robberies he committed).

According to the Department of Justice report, the 29-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of money laundering and multi-state transportation of stolen property.

During his plea, Babudar indicated that he had carried out no less than nine bank robberies in 2022, as well as two other hold-ups while running away from the police last year.

He subsequently laundered the money he stole with the help of local casinos and online gambling.

To right the wrongs he caused, Babudar will have to pay $532,675 in restitution to the banks he robbed, and property related to his money-laundering activities will be confiscated, including a painting autographed by Patrick Mahomes, his idol and quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs!

Babudar will be sentenced on July 10, and faces a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison without the possibility of parole…

Nightmare at Willy’s Chocolate Experience in Glasgow

Families in Glasgow, Scotland, were left disappointed when the Willy Wonka-themed event they had been looking forward to failed to live up to the expectations they had placed in it.

The event, aptly named Willy’s Chocolate Experience, failed to live up to its magical promise and triggered widespread frustration, even scaring the children.

The police were called to the scene, while the story spread like wildfire on the Internet.

Magical promises turned to disaster when ticket holders who had paid $44 each found themselves in a sterile warehouse, instead of the promised “optical wonders” and “extraordinary objects”.

Social media users were quick to share photos of the sparsely decorated, gloomy facility. This was in stark contrast to the advertised fantasy.

Organizers had promised guests “whimsical performances” as well as a wide variety of treats as they immersed themselves in “a world of pure imagination”. Families received meager portions of sweets and left disappointed and deceived.

Organizers were unprepared, as guests and performers reported. Actors were given scripts just before the event and had to improvise in the chaos.

On a Facebook group created by disillusioned attendees, they voiced their complaints.

They recounted how their children had been given jelly beans and others had run away from the supposedly enchanting, but not scary, characters.

The organization apologized after the negative reactions. It admitted that the event had gone badly, and acknowledged the frustrations of not being able to deliver the enchanting experience promised.

Texas ravaged by record wildfires

The Texas Panhandle is the epicenter of a series of fast-moving wildfires. These fires have prompted a strong response, triggering record destruction and community evacuations. Emergency services are working to cope with the scale of these fires across the state.

The fire spread over 1.1 million acres in what is being called a devastating and historic event, becoming the largest fire ever recorded in Texas. The West Odessa Volunteer Fire Department reports that the Hutchinson County fire is barely contained.

The Pantex plant is one of the facilities affected. It is the only nuclear assembly and disassembly facility in the United States, located near Amarillo. It was necessary to evacuate all non-essential personnel and suspend plant operations. However, it has been confirmed that no special materials were affected by the fires.

Matthew Perry’s X account hacked by crypto fraudsters

A cyberattack was launched against the X account of Matthew Perry, who died in autumn 2023. Hackers broke into his account and the actor’s 1.5 million followers were directed to fake websites claiming to solicit cryptocurrency donations.

The hack is not only a blow to his family, it’s also a blow to the Matthew Perry Foundation. The latter provides support and assistance to people struggling with addiction.

The foundation has sent out a strong warning to the public to combat the misinformation spread by hackers. It has made it clear that the only official way to make donations is via its website, MatthewPerryFoundation.org.

The foundation sponsored by the National Philanthropic Trust posted a message on the hacked account to emphasize the urgency of the situation:

“We have received information that Matthew’s official X page has been hacked and is directing users to a fake site asking for cryptocurrency donations. Please do not share or donate money to this website!”
