Actress Scarlett Johansson, famous for her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has spoken out about Open AI CEO Sam Altman.
The two personalities have been at the heart of a much-exposed controversy in recent months, linked to the alleged use of Johansson’s voice for Sky, a voice feature in ChatGPT.
Scarlett Johansson says OpenAI CEO Sam Altman could be a Marvel villain ("maybe with a robotic arm") after her voice was mimicked for ChatGPT without her consent.
“I actively avoided being a part of the [AI] conversation, which was what made it so disturbing. I was like, ‘How… pic.twitter.com/ItN5c9aUbp
Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, has incurred the wrath of Scarlett Johansson, as the actress openly criticized Altman, comparing him to a Marvel movie villain, for using her voice without her consent in a new voice assistant feature.
Launched last May, the feature was removed from the app just days after Johansson publicly pointed out that the voice used sounded uncannily like her own.
Many observers drew parallels between Sky and Scarlett Johansson’s role in the film Her, starring Joaquin Phoenix, where she lent her voice to Samantha, an artificial intelligence.
A tweet from OpenAI’s CEO referring to Her also fueled speculation, although Sam Altman later claimed that it was the natural voice of another actress that had been used for Sky.
It’s worth recalling that Johansson expressed her anger after discovering that one of the voices in the new ChatGPT feature resembled her own, especially as a few months earlier she had turned down an offer from Sam Altman to become one of the voices in the new ChatGPT feature.
The star said she was shocked to learn that neither her friends nor her family had been able to distinguish between Sky and her real voice!
History repeats itself as the Calgary Stampede once again came under heavy criticism after four rodeo animals were euthanized due to injuries sustained during the event, including the tragic death of a young calf whose neck was broken by a participant.
In all, three horses and one young calf were euthanized during the event, which ran from July 5 to 14.
BREAKING: A young cow was KILLED last night at the Calgary Stampede after a competitor snapped the animal’s neck with his bare hands. Additionally, 2 horses died during this year’s chuckwagon races. Take action➡️ https://t.co/HdBK82LbG6pic.twitter.com/AOcclZs99s
Firstly, two horses were injured, one during a race and the other during a cart competition. Although they received immediate medical attention, subsequent examination revealed the severity of their injuries, leading to their euthanasia.
Videos have circulated showing the most horrific incident occurring at a steer wrestling competition, where a participant broke a calf’s neck by tackling it to the ground. The animal, which had to suffer terribly for several minutes in front of the crowd in the stands, was finally euthanized by the vet.
Another horse was also euthanized on the eve of the event’s closure during another carriage pulling competition. Many critics consider these events to be relics of the past that should be abandoned in today’s world.
For several years, animal protection groups such as Animal Justice, PETA and the Vancouver Humane Society have been lodging animal cruelty complaints and seeking to put an end to such events, despite Calgary Stampede’s reassuring claims of improved safety for participating animals.
