Brazil Supreme Court confirms decision against Elon Musk’s X

While a Brazilian judge had ordered the suspension of social network X (Twitter) due to non-compliance with local legislation, the Brazilian Supreme Court unanimously upheld this decision.

As a result, Elon Musk’s social network has been blocked throughout the country.

The suspension of social network X in Brazil was implemented on Saturday, following an order issued when Elon Musk, despite multiple requests from a judge, had refused to appoint a legal representative for the company in Brazil.

Under Brazilian law, any company operating in the country must have a local legal representative.

Misinformation is at the heart of this legal dispute between Elon Musk and the judge, which began last April, when the latter ordered the suspension of several accounts accused of spreading misinformation in Brazil.

Recall that the situation deteriorated last month, when X closed its office in Brazil after refusing to comply with what Musk considers censorship.

The judge harshly criticized X and Elon Musk, saying the latter saw himself as above the law. He ordered him to find a local representative or risk being blocked, a threat he was eventually forced to carry out.

Elon Musk described the ban on his platform as an attack on freedom of expression, and stepped up his criticism of Brazil’s Supreme Court and the government.

Starlink, Musk’s satellite internet company, has also reportedly refused to comply with the Brazilian court order to block X. This could result in similar sanctions for Starlink to those imposed on X.

Trump believes he had “every right” to interfere in the election

In an interview on Fox News on September 1, former U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that despite the accusations against him for his attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, he had “every right” to interfere in that election.

During the televised interview, Donald Trump invoked his presidential immunity, claiming that he had had “every right” to interfere in the 2020 election.

The statement comes just days after Jack Smith, the special prosecutor leading the federal investigation into Trump’s attempts to interfere in the electoral process, filed a new indictment replacing the previous one, taking into account the Supreme Court’s recent clarifications regarding presidential immunity.

In the revised indictment, Jack Smith clarified that Trump had “no official responsibility” for a state’s certification of election results, and that he was acting “not as president, but as a candidate”.

During the interview, Donald Trump also boasted that, since his indictment, his position in the polls has climbed!

Trump pointed out that, in general, the popularity ratings of people who have been indicted tend to fall…

Shortly after Trump’s statements, Kamala Harris’s campaign argued that the comments were clear evidence that Donald Trump considered himself to be “above the law.”

Recall that last month, the Supreme Court ruled that sitting presidents enjoy immunity for acts performed during a presidential term.

Trump is still in big trouble in NYC

Judge Juan Merchan has, for the third time, refused to recuse himself from Donald Trump’s criminal case in New York, one of the major court cases involving the former president. Trump, despite his recent allegations accusing the judge of having ties to Kamala Harris, his political rival, failed to secure his recusal.

In his ruling, Judge Merchan once again rejected Donald Trump’s arguments, calling them “old, unfounded allegations”.

Getty Images

Judge Merchan stated that the lawyer had merely repeated arguments that have been rejected by the Court and other courts.

The judge also mentioned that the defense was resorting to previously refuted allegations.

Merchan was also particularly critical of Todd Blanche, Trump’s lawyer, and his colleagues, stressing the importance of professionalism.

Getty Images

Trump, through his lawyers, argued that there was a conflict of interest involving the judge since Vice President Kamala Harris, Democratic presidential candidate and Trump’s rival, as well as Merchan’s daughter, were both involved in political campaigns.

Both the prosecutor of record, Alvin Bragg, and Judge Merchan have deemed this argument frivolous and assert that Trump has not identified any new facts or change in the law that would justify a different result.

Trump is attempting to escape his sentencing set for September 18, following his conviction by a jury on May 30 on 34 counts of first-degree falsifying business records.

Trump retains a glimmer of hope, however, following a recent Supreme Court ruling granting broad immunity to presidents.

Judge Merchan has yet to rule on a defense motion seeking to set aside Trump’s guilty verdicts in the case.

Is Joe Biden right about Donald Trump?

In an interview with Joe Biden, airing on CBS Sunday Morning on August 11, the president expresses deep concern about Donald Trump’s potential disruptions on the heels of the upcoming presidential election.

More than that, Joe Biden discusses the potential consequences of a contested election and expresses serious concerns about the direction Trump and his allies might take should they lose the election.

In fact, Biden fears that Trump will attempt to undermine the peaceful transition of power once again even if he’s not actually in the White House right now!

Getty Images

Biden used Trump’s own words to back up his argument, quoting the former president using phrases such as “bloodbath” in the event of an election defeat.

Biden, along with many of Trump’s detractors, see these words as a threat to democracy.

Getty Images

Recall that at the last debate, when Biden was still the Democratic nominee, Trump was asked directly about his acceptance of the 2024 election results.

After attempting to dodge the question, he had replied that if the election was fair, legal and good, he would absolutely accept the results. However, many interpreted this comment to mean that he would accept the results only if they were in his favor.

In the CBS interview, Biden also alluded to ongoing attempts to complicate post-election verification processes.

The current U.S. president called for careful monitoring of what happens in local districts, where votes are counted…

The concerns expressed by Joe Biden are shared by many Americans…

A look back at that Donald Trump and Elon Musk interview

The recent conversation between Elon Musk and Donald Trump on the social network X, presented by Trump as a historic event, turned out to be a complete disaster for the former president’s election campaign.

While Elon Musk suspiciously invoked “a DDoS attack” on X to justify being more than 45 minutes behind schedule, Trump’s incoherent speech, punctuated by serious speech problems, his inappropriate comments on Kamala Harris’s beauty, and his nebulous assertions about a possible flight to Venezuela in the event of electoral defeat, contributed to the monumental failure of this interview, exacerbating the disorder of a campaign already in crisis for the former president.

One might think that Donald Trump’s campaign couldn’t be in more trouble after the withdrawal of Joe Biden and the meteoric rise of Kamala Harris, his new opponent.

However, the conversation between Trump and Musk on X, initially billed as a highlight for his re-election campaign, turned out to be a further disaster for the former president.

Monday night’s event had been billed as an opportunity for Trump to discuss crucial issues in front of a large online audience. However, the experience turned into a veritable nightmare, both technically – evoking the failed launch of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign on this very platform – and in terms of the interview itself, during which Trump physically seemed to struggle to express himself normally.

Getty Images

From the outset, the livestream on X was marred by major technical problems, preventing many users from accessing the interview for over 45 minutes.

The chaos was quickly mocked and criticized on social networks, sparking anger and frustration. Elon Musk attributed these malfunctions to “a DDoS cyber attack” targeting the platform.

However, this explanation was greeted with skepticism by many, who pointed out that such a forward would probably have had repercussions on the entire X platform, not just the livestream.

Getty Images

Once the “technical problems” had been resolved, the interview between the two billionaires began. Trump encountered serious speech difficulties, as he discussed his experience on his assassination attempt and his usual topics. His communication problems led some listeners to compare him to “Daffy Duck”.

Getty Images

Afterwards, Trump made an odd remark when referring to Kamala Harris’s beauty on the TIME cover, comparing her to that of his wife, former first lady Melania Trump.

During this strange, rather one-sided conversation with Elon Musk, the former president also said he wanted to move to Venezuela if he lost the election, arguing that Venezuela would be much safer than the USA.

He insisted to Musk that the next time they met, it would be in Venezuela.

Clearly, this is not a good moment in history for the two men.

Trump flied in Jeffrey Epstein’s plane

Recently, Donald Trump’s campaign traveled to Montana, Wyoming and Colorado using the plane that belonged to Jeffrey Epstein, the discredited financier convicted of serious sex crimes against underage girls, now deceased.

Trump encountered mechanical problems with his Trump Force One plane, forcing his campaign to seek an alternative for his recent travels.

Getty Images

They turned to Private Jet Services Group, a supplier regularly used by Trump, who provided them with a Gulfstream G-550… social network users identified a link between the Gulfstream Jet’s serial number, N550GP, and Jeffrey Epstein, using information from the Federal Aviation Administration’s public registry.

Jeffrey Epstein reportedly last used this aircraft in 2019, when he was arrested on July 6, 2019 by the FBI at Teterboro Airport, New Jersey, on sex trafficking charges.

Getty Images

It should be clarified that the Gulfstream G-550 is not Epstein’s infamous Lolita Express, which was allegedly used by Epstein to transport girls under 18 to various destinations and was at the center of Epstein’s sex-trafficking charges, but another of the infamous billionaire’s personal aircraft.

Following these revelations, a campaign official indicated that Trump’s team was unaware that Epstein was the plane’s former owner and only learned of his past after being contacted by journalists for comment.

The plane has since reportedly changed ownership twice.

Getty Images

Let’s not forget that this coincidence once again revives memories of the visibly close past ties between Epstein and Trump, in any case certainly closer than the former president is willing to admit.

Trump had even praised Epstein in the past, calling him a “great guy”, as they lived close to each other in Florida.

Getty images

According to the Washington Post, the two frequented the same parties in Mar-a-Lago and Manhattan, before a dispute over a Palm Beach property cooled their relationship.

Implosion of the Titan: Family of victim files 50M$ lawsuit against OceanGate

The OceanGate Titan saga, marked by the catastrophic accident that led to the destruction of a tourist submarine and the death of its passengers during an expedition to the wreck of the Titanic, continues with the announcement that the family of French explorer Paul Henri Nargeolet, who perished in the incident, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit, seeking $50 million in damages.

Paul-Henri Nargeolet was one of five passengers aboard the Titan when, on June 18, 2023, a sudden interruption in communications signaled his disappearance.

This triggered one of the largest maritime search operations ever undertaken, lasting several days.

Unfortunately, it was later established that the submersible had suffered a massive pressure drop, causing it to implode and resulting in the death of all its passengers.

Getty Images

Right from the start of the search operations, the quality of the Titan’s design was called into question, not least because the designer boasted of having deviated from the strict standards imposed by the industry for the construction of craft capable of withstanding the high pressures of the seabed.

Among other things, he had chosen to use carbon fiber to build the Titan’s hull, rather than titanium.

Getty Images

Many pointed to carbon fiber as one of the main factors contributing to the aircraft’s implosion.

In addition, they pointed out that the Titan was controlled by a simple Logitech gamepad, similar to those used for Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and that using such a controller in such a hostile environment represented another questionable design choice.

Getty Images

In a lawsuit filed by the family in King County, Washington, the plaintiffs claim that carbon fiber can break under stress, unlike titanium, which is strengthened by repeated pressure.

Getty Images

According to the lawsuit, the Titan’s crew was aware of the gravity of the situation, as the craft dropped weights in a desperate attempt to halt its descent some 3,500 meters below the Titanic’s level.

A system designed to detect the cracking of carbon fiber under stress would have alerted crew members to the impending failure of the ship, most likely causing terror and mental anguish prior to implosion, according to the lawsuit.

Getty Images

So this case is far from over.

In addition to the $50 million lawsuit filed by the family of one of the victims, an in-depth investigation into the circumstances of the disaster is still underway.

In addition, a public hearing is scheduled for next September.

The neverending war between Elon Musk and Sam Altman

Elon Musk seems determined to resume his legal battle against OpenAI.

In a new complaint filed in a federal court in northern California, he accuses CEO and co-founder Sam Altman, as well as president Greg Brockman, of deception and manipulation.

Musk is reviving charges from a previous complaint against OpenAI executives, which he had withdrawn earlier in the year, while adding new allegations. In this latest lawsuit, he details how he was allegedly cheated out of millions of dollars, and accuses OpenAI executives of marketing the company’s technology without his knowledge, employing unfair strategies.

Getty Images

Musk claims to have been “duped” by Altman and Brockman into investing and founding millions of dollars in OpenAI under false pretenses, he says, and accuses the two men of manipulating him from the outset, pivoting towards a profit-driven model.

According to Musk the true mission of OpenAI has been subverted by prioritizing shareholder value over the public good. Musk claims that the new mission is an affront to the original purpose that led him to create OpenAI in the first place.

Getty Images

In an earlier lawsuit, Musk dropped his lawsuit after OpenAI published emails that seemed to weaken his accusations.

The emails revealed that Musk himself believed that the company needed to generate significant profits to support artificial intelligence ambitions, contradicting his current accusation that OpenAI was improperly profit-seeking.

Getty Images

OpenAI rejected Musk’s accusations, calling them “incoherent” and “frivolous”.

On the heels of the tragedy involving brothers Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau, both of whom died at the hands of a hit-and-run driver in New Jersey last Thursday, Montréal Canadiens player Cole Caufield announced he was changing his number to pay tribute.

The man and player he considered his hero as a player wore number 13, and that’s exactly the number Cole Caufield will wear this season when he lines up for the Habs.

While the entire hockey world is still reeling from the senseless death of Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Cole Caufield is making a gesture that is sure to have an impact all season long as he takes to the ice not only at the Bell Centre, but also at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, where the late superstar played, and at the Saddledome in Calgary, his former home rink.
