Former Las Vegas Democrat official sentenced to 28 years in prison for journalist’s murder

Robert Telles, a former Democratic elected official from Las Vegas, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for the murder of an investigative reporter.

The victim, Jeff German a reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, was stabbed to death on September 3, 2022 after bringing to light an intimate relationship between Telles and a co-worker. At the time, German had published several articles about her “intimidating” and “hostile” behaviors in the professional setting.

Jeff German, 69, was a respected reporter with almost 45 years on the job. He worked to cover the courts, crime and corruption in Las Vegas.

He was reportedly found dead outside his residence.

Surveillance video revealed an unusually dressed suspect, wearing a large hat, orange construction jacket, black pants and gray sneakers, carrying a duffel bag and driving a wine-red SUV.

The SUV would have put Telles on the suspect list.

During a search of Robert Telles’s residence, police reportedly found an SUV as well as cut-out pieces of a straw hat and a gray sneaker, leading to his arrest.

According to prosecutors, Telles killed German after losing the primary for a second term, blaming the journalist as the cause.

In handing down his sentence, the judge stressed that this type of “political violence” was “unacceptable and dangerous”.

The jury deliberated for three days before finding Robert Telles guilty.

The judge chose to add eight years to the maximum sentence he could impose, due to the use of a deadly weapon in an intentional, deliberate and premeditated murder.

Telles will be eligible for parole… at the age of 73.

A dog spotted on top of a pyramid in Egypt

A dog was recently spotted at the top of a pyramid in Egypt by a paraglider who filmed the moment, which quickly went viral on social media.

Marshall Mosher was flying over Egypt’s pyramids on October 14 when he witnessed an unexpected scene: a dog atop the Great Pyramid of Giza.

CaptureMarshallMosher

He shared his video on Instagram, which has since garnered over 850,000 likes.

The next day, the paraglider returned to fly over the pyramid, hoping to find the dog atop the 481-foot-tall structure.

Mosher wondered if the dog was injured or in trouble, unable to climb back down.

CaptureMarshallMosher

Many people, following his viral video, dubbed him the “divine dog”, and many comments under the video referred to him as the physical incarnation of Anubis, an Egyptian god often depicted with a jackal’s head, similar to those local dogs found near the pyramids.

Unfortunately for him, the dog had left the pyramid… as he didn’t see it anywhere on his second approach.

Trump calls January 6 a “day of love”

Speaking at Univision for a Town Hall, Trump was confronted by Ramiro González, a 56-year-old Republican construction worker living in Tampa, Florida. González stated that he no longer wished to vote for him since the events of January 6, 2021, and asked him to convince him to reconsider his decision.

Trump chose instead to refer to the riots and the attempted overthrow of the government as a “day of love”, a statement that shocked many in attendance at Town Hall.

At the Town Hall in Miami, Florida, Ramiro González had a lot to say about some of the former president’s decisions.

CaptureUnivision

During his speech, he explained to Trump that he found his actions and inactions during the riot “a little troubling”, particularly because of the time it took him to react as his supporters forward the Capitol.

Trump responded to the man by claiming that absolutely “nothing was done wrong”, despite the fact that thousands of his supporters had violently attacked the Capitol in Washington, D.C., that day, plunging the country into instability and setting a dangerous precedent by threatening the peaceful transfer of power.

Getty Images

Several people lost their lives as a result of these forwards, including Trump supporters and Capitol Police officers. Trump instead claimed that:

“Ashli Babbitt was killed […] no one was killed”.

Instead, Trump claimed that the event had been peaceful, as his supporters were unarmed: “Other people had guns, but we didn’t. And when I say we, I mean those who came down […] But it was a day of love.”

CaptureUnivision

Trump tried to disassociate himself and excuse the thousands of his supporters who laid siege to the Capitol after attending his “Stop the Steal” rally, declaring, “They didn’t come because of me […] they thought the election was rigged.”

Ramiro González also asked him why he should give him his vote if some people in his former administration wouldn’t support him.

Getty Images

He mentioned that even his own vice president, Mike Pence, didn’t want to support him. Trump responded by referring to Mike Pence’s actions: “The vice president […] I absolutely don’t agree with what he’s done.”

Trump’s answers on the subject clearly didn’t seem to convince González to vote for him on November 5.

Mitch McConnell: Trump is a “despicable human,” “narcissist” and “stupid”

In his new biography, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell expressed his true thoughts on Trump after the 2020 elections, including calling him “stupid and ill-tempered”.

The book, The Price of Power, will be published on October 29, a week before Election Day, and is written by Michael Tackett, a journalist and vice president in the Washington bureau of the Associated Press.

Getty Images

The book chronicles nearly three decades of Mitch McConnell’s political life. But it’s the passages about his comments on Donald Trump that attract particular attention.

McConnell is quoted as saying that Trump is “incapable of determining where his own interests lie”.

Getty Images

According to McConnell’s comments on Donald Trump’s defeat in 2020, for a “narcissist like him”, this defeat would have been “really hard to accept”. He also reportedly pointed out that there was a real difference between Trump’s behavior before and after the results that saw Joe Biden prevail:

“His behavior since the election has been even worse, by far, than it was before, because he has no filter now at all.”

Mitch McConnell’s frustrations with Trump reportedly began long before his attempts to steal the election. He reportedly called Trump a “despicable human” as Trump blocked aid for Americans to fight the coronavirus, despite bipartisan support. McConnell was furious to see him refuse this aid “desperately needed by the American people”.

At 82, McConnell, who has experienced worrying health episodes in recent months, including suddenly remaining motionless and silent for several minutes at several press conferences, announced this year that he would step down from the Republican leadership after the elections, but would complete his term in the Senate in 2026.

It’s worth remembering that despite his many negative comments about Donald Trump, McConnell still supported him in the current election, choosing to put the party ahead of the country.

Harris and Biden comment on the death of Hamas leader, killed by the Israeli Defense Forces in Gaza

According to the Israeli police, DNA tests and dental records confirm the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar during an Israeli operation in Gaza on October 17.

The announcement was commented on by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Yahya Sinwar was reportedly killed in a attack after an Israeli tank fired on a house in the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to an Israel Defense Forces radio station, the army spotted “suspicious movement” on the second floor of a building, and a drone sent after the assault vehicle was fired reportedly detected Sinwar’s body.

Following the announcement, Joe Biden, who is visiting Germany, said:

“This is a good day for Israel, for the United States and for the world.”

The President also indicated that he would soon meet with Prime Minister Netanyahu to congratulate him, discuss ways to return the hostages to their families and bring an end to this war, which has caused so much destruction to innocent people.

Getty Images

Kamala Harris said, “It’s time for tomorrow to begin” and pointed out that the death of Sinwar, considered by Israel to be the main architect of the deadly terrorist attack on October 7, 2023 that triggered the war in Gaza, represents an opportunity “to finally end the war in Gaza”.

She stressed the need to guarantee Israel’s security, the release of hostages, an end to suffering in Gaza, and that the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom and self-determination.

Getty Images

Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the assassination of the Hamas leader by saying that “evil has suffered a heavy blow”, but he still seems far from the position of peace that many, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, want to see as soon as possible.

Netanyahu also added that despite Sinwar’s death, “the task ahead of us is not yet complete.”

Donald Trump: “I am the father of IVF”

Trump made a strange, even zany statement at another Town Hall, broadcasted on Fox News in Georgia, where he proclaimed himself the “father of in vitro fertilization”.

The phrase has caused frustration among many observers, given that he is primarily responsible for the appointment of ultraconservative justices who overturned Roe v. Wade, disrupting IVF services in some states that had stringent laws in place following that controversial Supreme Court decision.

Getty Images

In front of an all-female audience, Trump declared the Republican Party to be “the party of in vitro fertilization”, no less.

Trump seems otherwise unconcerned about his responsibility in the national conflict over abortion and reproductive rights.

These rights have been severely tested by controversial laws, notably in Alabama, where embryos are considered human beings, placing a heavy burden on patients and medical teams in the field.

Getty Images

Remember that Trump has been trying for some time to tone down his rhetoric on abortion, which has become a major issue in the current election.

He recently declared that he would veto a possible federal ban on abortion, having previously remained expressly silent on the subject.

Getty Images

Doubts persist despite his attempts to reassure on the subject. Indeed, several people tipped to hold positions in a possible government under Trump are among those who contributed to the infamous 900+ page “Project 2025” document.

This document proposes a total ban on abortion, as well as a ban on assisted fertilization methods and all contraceptive methods, including the pill and condoms.

Mark Robinson sues CNN for $50M

Mark Robinson, the controversial Republican candidate for governor of North Carolina, is suing CNN for $50 million in damages for disclosing his alleged racist comments published on an adult site and forum.

In a shock report broadcast on September 19, CNN revealed that it had discovered an account on an adult site linked to Robinson, indicating that he had posted explicit racist and sexual comments on the site’s forum.

Getty Images

Robinson called the report “irresponsible and defamatory” and is seeking $50 million in damages for defamation in a complaint filed in Wake County Superior Court.

In his complaint, Robinson claims that CNN published this information when it was already known that his email had been compromised by several data breaches.

Getty Images

According to CNN, Robinson wrote several messages between 2008 and 2012 on the forum of site Nude Africa, on which he allegedly referred to himself as a “perv” and a “Black Nazi“, among other things, and expressed support for the reinstatement of slavery.

Getty Images

In other messages, according to CNN, he stated that he used to watch women changing in the locker room when he was younger.

It should be remembered that since this news was posted, Republicans, including Trump, have distanced themselves from the election campaign of Robinson, an ultra-conservative candidate with controversial remarks, who was previously a favorite of the ex-president, despite the fact that he denied being the author of these messages.

Getty Images

CNN, for its part, claimed that several pieces of evidence established a direct link between Robinson and the site, including the use of the same personal e-mail.

Trump stands for over 40 minutes listening to music during a Town Hall

Donald Trump’s Town Hall-style event in Oaks, Pennsylvania, attracted attention, but not for the reasons he wanted.

Following two medical incidents in the hall, one of which prompted Trump to suggest that heat-induced unconsciousness might help one of his struggling supporters lose weight, his strange behavior at the event’s resumption raised questions about his mental capacity less than a month before the election.

This remark put a strange twist on the rally, which took an even more unexpected turn when Trump, who was due to resume the Town Hall, instead of taking questions from the audience, stood for 40 minutes listening to music, leaving many in the room puzzled.

Getty Images

Trump seemed visibly confused when the evening’s moderator, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, asked him if he wanted to listen to his song before leaving. In the video of the event, he is seen asking “what song” it was, before finally declaring that he was going to take questions.

However, after a few moments, he finally asked for music including the likes of Y.M.C.A., Ave Maria, Hallelujah, Nothing Compares 2 U and November Rain, before… leaving!

Getty Images

Earlier during the Town Hall, Trump also made several strange remarks, including to one of his supporters who was being rescued by a medical team. He suggested that he liked the heat at his rallies because it helped him shed a few pounds, adding that the ailing supporter would certainly be happy to lose weight.

Donald Trump also urged his supporters to vote “on or before January 5”, when the presidential election is scheduled… for November 5.

Getty Images

For several weeks and months now, many people have been pointing out that Trump is showing signs of confusion, raising concerns about his mental health during his election campaign.

Many doubt his ability to run a country, including his refusal to participate in a second debate against rival Kamala Harris, his absence from key interviews and his reluctance to answer questions from his own supporters.

Getty Images

In addition, more than 230 doctors and medical professionals have called on Donald Trump to release his medical records, despite his claims that he is in better health than Kamala Harris, who has just released her medical tests and is in perfect health.

Donald Trump commented on the event on Truth Social, saying it had been a great evening.

Kamala Harris’ 60 Minutes interview was not an easy one

As rival Donald Trump pulled out of his CBS 60 Minutes interview, Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamalah Harris was questioned intensely by Bill Whitaker on several topics important to voters, including her economic plan, border security, foreign relations and gun ownership.

Harris, who was roundly criticized by the opposing party for not doing an interview, made a point of pointing out to voters at the end of the interview that even if she had participated, they should ask themselves what it means to them that Trump chose not to participate in the interview himself.

With the election less than a month away, Kamala Harris has embarked on an extensive media campaign to address voters and get a head start in her very close race against former President Donald Trump.

CaptureCBS60Minutes

The Vice President was subjected to intense questioning on a variety of topics, including the Biden administration’s approach to border security during her tenure.

She noted that immigration was a long-standing problem and that the number of illegal border crossings had recently declined. Harris also stressed the need for Congress to act…

…a Congress whose progress is blocked by Republican decisions, let’s not forget.

Getty Images

Also asked about the conflicts in the Middle East, Kamala Harris declared that this war must end, while asserting that Israel had the right to defend itself. She also said that too many innocent Palestinians had lost their lives in the conflict.

Regarding the U.S. relationship with Prime Minister Netanyahu, she stressed the importance of the alliance between the American people and the Israeli people.

Getty Images

Although the economy is improving, the cost of groceries remains high, according to Kamala Harris, who said that this problem must be forward. She added that, as part of her plan, measures are planned to bring down the price of groceries.

She also pointed out that unemployment in the United States is currently historically low among all population groups, and that the economy is thriving according to all macroeconomic indicators.

Getty Images

When asked how she planned to fund her various economic plans, which could add $3 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade-an amount that remains lower than Donald Trump’s proposal, that said, and which includes the child tax credit, the first-time homebuyer credit and financial assistance to start a small business-Harris stressed that it was time for the wealthiest among us to pay our fair share of taxes.

Getty Images

Kamala Harris said there are many leaders in Congress who understand that Trump’s tax cuts have significantly increased our federal deficit.

Asked whether or not Congress would approve her proposals, Harris said she sees herself as both a staunch public servant and a capitalist, while also being aware of the limits of government.

She added that many people in Congress know exactly what she’s talking about, and that their constituents do too.

This in-depth interview will certainly be useful for voters who want to get to know the vice-president better before making their choice for the election. Every topic is covered, and the full interview can be viewed on CBS’s 60 Minutes website.
