Biden’s doctor clarifies the president’s state of health

In response to rumors of repeated visits to the White House by a Parkinson’s specialist, Joe Biden’s general practitioner, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, issued a letter clarifying the president’s condition. Questions had been raised as the president had been visited by the neurologist on numerous occasions in recent months.

The statement was issued after a controversial White House press briefing, during which Karine Jean-Pierre, press secretary for the White House, was asked a number of questions about these visits. Ms. Jean-Pierre said visitor logs were public, but would not confirm details of the visits at the briefing for security reasons.

Initial reports in the New York Post and New York Times indicated that neurosurgeon and Parkinson’s specialist Dr. Kevin Cannard had visited the White House eight times between last summer and this spring.

Karine Jean-Pierre pointed out that Biden was not being treated for Parkinson’s and that the president had never taken medication for the disease. She explained that Biden visits a neurologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as part of annual check-ups that include a detailed neurological examination. The examinations performed revealed no symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis or central nervous system disorders.

Joe Biden’s commitment to running for re-election has not wavered despite public criticism from Democrats and recent suggestions of withdrawal after a poor performance in the June debate against Donald Trump. Joe Biden’s critics have expressed concerns about his mental capacity and age, and have called for greater transparency about his state of health.

In a telephone interview with MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Biden said he would continue to run for president despite negative criticism of his mental and physical fitness. Biden again rejected criticism of his health. Jill Biden, the First Lady, also expressed her support for her husband at an appearance in Wilmington, North Carolina.

A recent CBS News poll shows that the fallout from Trump’s debate performance may have swung public opinion in his favor. Joe Biden’s campaign continues to promote his candidacy through interviews, events and Democratic voting outreach.

Joe Biden just won’t quit and he even wrote a letter to Democrats

In the face of mounting speculation and pressure, Joe Biden affirmed in a letter to his party that he would maintain his bid for the 2024 presidential election. In the letter, sent to the Democratic Congress on Monday, Biden stressed the importance of party unity. In his view, any division would diminish their chances of beating Donald Trump and the Republican MAGA in the next election.

Biden emphasized the need for Democrats to remain united in order to focus on their main goal: defeating Trump in the next election. With only 42 days left until the Democratic convention and 119 days until the general election, Biden stressed that their sole mission is to defeat Donald Trump. He added that a drop in determination or a blurring of their goals would only benefit Trump.

The president’s message is intended to appease growing calls among Democrats for him to step aside. Acknowledging the concerns surrounding his campaign, he admitted to being aware of the criticism but reiterated his determination to stay in the race. He explained that he had had multiple discussions with Democratic leaders, party officials and voters, saying that he would not have chosen to run if he didn’t think he was the best candidate to beat Donald Trump in 2024.

Biden noted that he garnered more than 14 million votes in the Democratic primary and nearly 3,900 delegates, positioning him well ahead as the presumptive nominee. Democratic voters chose him as their representative, he recalled in his letter.

Biden asserts that the choice of the Democratic nominee must rest exclusively with the voters, and not with the press, pundits, big donors, or any select group of individuals, no matter how well-intentioned.

Let’s not forget that Biden is facing pressures that are making his path to victory more difficult, especially since his rather disastrous first debate against rival Donald Trump.

Since that debate, Biden has stepped up his presence at rallies in key states like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, and has stepped up interviews to answer questions about his credentials.

The coming days will define the Democratic Party’s strategy for the November elections.

And the clock is ticking.

No more meetings after 8pm for Joe Biden?

After an emergency meeting with Democratic governors, President Joe Biden reportedly declared that he would limit his nocturnal activities after 8 p.m. in order to sleep better at night. This decision has led some members of his party to question his ability to manage a busy campaign and presidency.

https://twitter.com/CNN/status/1808931571430289691

Wednesday night’s meeting was intended to reassure Democratic governors that Joe Biden is capable of governing effectively and running a campaign to defeat former President Donald Trump in the next election.

The New York Times reports that Biden made the request to give himself a balanced schedule.

California Governor Gavin Newsom, a staunch supporter of Joe Biden, tried to downplay the president’s comments, saying they were not to be taken literally, but that Biden needed to manage his energy better. Newsom also stressed the need to maintain a reasonable schedule to avoid burnout.

An unnamed Democratic lawmaker, meanwhile, expressed concern about Biden’s decision and questioned the president’s ability to manage potential crises that may arise at night. Joe Biden’s campaign has defended this approach, drawing comparisons with former presidents such as George W. Bush and Barack Obama, who maintained structured schedules to balance their schedules.

The controversy comes after a difficult debate performance from Mr. Biden, worrying some Democrats about his re-election campaign. The debate, which took place at 9 p.m., showed a president who appeared exhausted and struggled to express himself. This fueled concerns about his health and his ability to be president for a second term.

Sources close to Biden say that since then, he has been taking daily naps as early as 11am.

After the debate, Michigan Democratic candidate Debbie Dingell raised the possibility of a change of course if Biden failed to convince voters of his vitality.

Biden relies heavily on the inner circle of his family, which includes wife Jill Biden and son Hunter Biden. Both have reportedly encouraged him to continue his campaign, while suggesting that he make significant changes to his team of advisors.

BBC presenter suggested Trump assassination

BBC presenter David Aaronovitch sparked controversy when he posted a now-deleted message on social network X suggesting that former President Donald Trump be assassinated on Joe Biden’s orders.

Aaronovitch made the comments in response to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity, sparking a furor by claiming that if he were in Biden’s shoes, he would quickly have Trump eliminated, arguing that Trump poses a threat to America’s security.

Getty Images

Aaronovitch, having since removed the tweet, attempted to clarify his intentions by describing his publication as satirical.

He expressed his displeasure at the reactions, indicating that a far-right movement was now interpreting his tweet about the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity as an incitement to violence, whereas he claims it was clearly intended as satire.

It’s worth recalling that in a six-to-three decision, the Supreme Court ruled that former presidents could not be prosecuted for their official acts. The decision, which sparked reactions, featured dissenting opinions co-authored by Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson.

The latter warned that the ruling could exempt former presidents from responsibility for serious acts, including the hypothetical murder of their political opponents.

Following his provocative publication, Aaronovitch was branded irresponsible and trash, and accused of suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome on social networks.

In response, he shot back at several of his detractors, asking if they had read the Supreme Court decision, and claimed that those insulting him were among the stupidest people on X.

Kamala Harris would have the best chance against Trump

A recent CNN political poll in the US revealed significant shifts in Democratic voters’ opinions, particularly following Biden’s debate performance with Trump, affecting the current president’s prospects for the November election. The results suggest that Vice President Kamala Harris would have a better chance of winning the election than Joe Biden if the latter withdrew from the race.

https://twitter.com/people/status/1808348950052634894

Joe Biden’s prospects of securing the Democratic Party nomination suffered a severe blow after his televised debate and perceived disappointing performance against Donald Trump. This quickly led to a crisis within the Democratic Party, with Biden’s chances plummeting to an all-time low according to the latest forecasts.

Getty Images

With these major upheavals within the party, Vice President Kamala Harris’s chances of success in the presidential race would have increased considerably, positioning her ahead of all other potential Democratic candidates for election, should Biden see his candidacy replaced for the 2024 elections.

Recent polls affirm that Kamala Harris is the most viable candidate to take on Trump. In a hypothetical face-off between Trump and Biden, the poll shows Trump with a six-point lead over Biden. Harris, however, would be closer with 47% of voters backing her, while Trump would have 45% of the vote.

Kamala Harris is considered more popular with women and independent voters than Joe Biden, which goes a long way to bolstering the Democratic camp’s performance.

As the November elections approach, the Democratic Party is experiencing a period of unprecedented turbulence. Party members are uncertain about Biden’s continued leadership and are wondering whether they should bet on Kamala Harris instead.

A bad week at the (box) office for Kevin Costner

Kevin Costner’s four-part western, Horizon: An American Saga, made a disappointing box-office debut with $11 million for its first installment, despite a stellar cast including Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Luke Wilson.

Costner, who co-wrote and directed the film, is also the lead actor.

The film has become one of Hollywood’s most talked-about projects thanks to the former Yellowstone star’s $38 million investment. Costner has budgeted a total of $100 million for the series.

The financial risk has not gone unmentioned in Hollywood as Costner has taken drastic measures, including mortgaging ten acres of his Santa Barbara property.

The film Horizon was clearly not appreciated. The film was widely criticized.

For its part, Entertainment Weekly described the three-hour film as boring, and RottenTomatoes agreed.

Costner continues to work on the sequel despite the negative reviews. The second chapter of Horizon will be released on August 16. Costner is already shooting for the third installment, but financial details are still uncertain.

Warner Bros. is distributing the first two films, but has not yet committed to the third.

Warner Bros. Pictures

Costner’s team remains optimistic about the film’s long-term success, particularly in the home entertainment and video-on-demand markets, where it could recoup some of the investment costs.

Costner remains undaunted by this rocky start and urges audiences to “give Horizon a chance”, while emphasizing the depth and originality of the film’s story.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls for the impeachment of Supreme Court justices

New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez declared on X her intention to submit a request for the impeachment of U.S. Supreme Court justices following a controversial decision that will grant future presidents immunity for crimes committed while in office.

https://twitter.com/people/status/1808256339916845189

Many have argued that the Court’s decision to elevate the president above the law poses a danger to American democracy.

In a ruling arising from a federal case in which Donald Trump was involved, it was declared that while former presidents enjoy absolute immunity in the performance of their duties, this immunity does not extend to private actions.

His lawyers then argued that Trump’s alleged efforts to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election were an integral part of his duties as president. Prosecutors maintained, however, that Trump was not acting as president, but as a presidential candidate.

Ocasio-Cortez blames the Supreme Court for being caught up in an unprecedented corruption crisis. AOC describes the Supreme Court’s decision as an “attack on American democracy”. It also points out that Congress is charged with protecting the country from “authoritarian control”.

Ocasio-Cortez’s efforts are unlikely to succeed, however, as Republicans hold the majority of seats in the House of Representatives, and Democratic Party leaders are not yet fully on board with her idea of impeaching a judge.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries says impeachment is not the answer.

Democrats are currently stepping up their efforts to exert greater influence on the Supreme Court, which is mired in several scandals, including the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Rudy Giuliani disbarred by the New York State Bar Association

Rudy Giuliani has been disbarred.

The decision was made by the New York First Division Appellate Department, which foundhis commentserroneous and misleading in the wake of the 2020 presidential election.

The move marks the end of his legal career and underscores his baseless accusations of voter fraud while serving as former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney.

The ex-lawyer had his license to practice revoked in 2021, demonstrating the seriousness and scale of his actions.

Giuliani and his spokesman Ted Goodman were quick to react to the disbarment. Goodman called the court’s decision “corrupt” and promised to appeal.
