Hunter Biden guilty!

On Tuesday, Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, was found guilty of three counts of illegal firearms possession. Following a week-long trial in Wilmington, Delaware, the jury delivered its verdict after approximately three hours of deliberation on the second day. The verdict is historic, marking the first time an American president’s child has been convicted.

The conviction follows an incident in October 2018, in which Hunter Biden allegedly lied on a federal application form about his drug use when purchasing a Colt revolver. Three counts were filed, including making false statements about Biden’s addiction, certifying that statements made by him are true, and possessing a firearm illegally.

During the trial, Hunter Biden’s drug addiction problems were scrutinized. Although Hunter Biden’s lawyer argued that the prosecution had failed to provide tangible evidence of Hunter Biden’s crack cocaine use during the month of the gun’s purchase and possession, as no witnesses had seen Hunter use drugs during this period, text messages on his phone contradicted this argument.

These messages indicated communications about drug trafficking and drug use shortly after the gun purchase. In the end, the jury agreed with the prosecutors.

According to CNN, sources in the courtroom described Hunter Biden’s family and friends as shocked by the verdict.

A few days before the verdict, when asked about the possibility of his son being found guilty, President Joe Biden had stated that he would not pardon his son, underlining his commitment to due process.

This verdict is likely to have major repercussions on the political scene, given that Hunter Biden had been on the Republican radar for several months.

Hunter faces up to 25 years in prison and a maximum fine of $750,000. The judge indicated that a sentencing hearing is generally scheduled for 120 days after the verdict, which would place that hearing in mid-October, before Election Day.

This verdict will most likely be appealed by Hunter Biden and his team.

Uncontrollable voice, violent spasms (to the point of having the potential to break bones), the singer describes her symptoms vividly.

This may well dampen the current theories circulating that the Charlemagne diva is due to sing at the Paris Olympics in the near future.

But it wouldn’t be the first surprise Céline has had in store for us since the start of her career…

The complete NBC interview will be broadcast in its entirety on June 11.

Rust’s gunsmith wants to see Alec Baldwin in jail

The legal wrangling surrounding the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust continues, as the film’s armorer was recently sentenced to 18 months in prison for manslaughter.

She hopes to see actor Alec Baldwin suffer the same fate in his upcoming trial in July.

The spotlight will soon be on Alec Baldwin, also charged with manslaughter in the death of Halyna Hutchins, the director of photography on the set of Rust who died in 2021 after a gun discharged during a rehearsal.

Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the gunsmith in charge at the time of the tragedy, could be called to testify at the actor’s trial, which begins on July 9 with jury selection.

Gutierrez Reed was convicted and sentenced to 18 months in a New Mexico correctional facility, after a jury deliberation lasting less than three hours.

She hopes that Alec Baldwin, who allegedly set off the gun that killed Hutchins and also injured director Joel Souza, will suffer a similar fate at his trial.

According to People, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who apologized for her role in the tragic accident, criticized the way the media portrayed her. She also strongly contested her conviction. In a recorded telephone conversation from the prison where she is serving her sentence, she reportedly expressed her desire to see Alec Baldwin jailed too.

Hannah Gutierrez Reed’s recent requests for a new trial were denied, the judges concluding that the instructions given to the jury were the correct ones.

Gutierrez Reed’s trial, broadcast live due to the permission of cameras in the courtroom, had attracted a lot of attention last March, and many people are hoping that Baldwin’s trial will also be broadcast live, which could make it one of the most talked-about trials of the year.

Alec Baldwin will stand trial for manslaughter on July 9.

Since the tragedy, the actor has maintained that he did not pull the trigger on the gun that killed Hutchins.

Amanda Knox devastated by her new conviction in Italy

An Italian court on Wednesday upheld Amanda Knox’s conviction for defamation, claiming that Knox, now 36, had falsely accused Patrick Lumumba of the murder for which she was initially charged. This decision marks a new chapter in a legal and media affair that has been ongoing since 2007, when Knox’s roommate Meredith Kercher was murdered.

https://twitter.com/AP/status/1798301162619253114

Amanda Knox, herself exonerated of the murder conviction of her British roommate Meredith Kercher in Italy in 2007, believed she could erase all traces of this tragedy. However, she was completely devastated to learn that the libel charges against her have been reinstated, preventing her from closing this chapter of her life.

Getty Images

Knox was a 20-year-old exchange student when Kercher was brutally murdered at their home in Perugia, Italy. Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted of Kercher’s murder in 2009.

The case had many twists and turns; Knox and Sollecito were first acquitted, then re-convicted, before being definitively exonerated by Italy’s Supreme Court in 2015.

Rudy Guede was finally found guilty of Kercher’s murder and sentenced to 16 years in prison, his DNA having been found at the crime scene.

Getty Images

Knox’s legal troubles didn’t end there, however. Knox was convicted of defamation in connection with accusations she made during intensive interrogations by Italian police after Kercher’s death.

She accused Patrick Lumumba, owner of a bar in the city and Knox’s former boss, of being responsible for her roommate’s death. Following these accusations, Lumumba was arrested, imprisoned and released two weeks later without charge. Knox retracted her statement, declaring that she had made the accusation under increasing pressure and duress from investigators.

Knox’s lawyer, Carlo Dalla Vedova, said his client was exasperated by the court’s decision and would consider an appeal after reviewing the detailed reasons for the court’s decision, which is expected within the next 60 days.

Pro-Russian terrorist act narrowly avoided in France?

A 26-year-old man of Ukrainian-Russian origin from the predominantly Russian-speaking Donbass region of Ukraine was arrested at Roissy-en-France on Monday. Following an explosion which inflicted serious injuries to his arm and face, he was found to be in possession of a large quantity of explosives, suggesting potentially serious implications.

https://twitter.com/LCI/status/1798612823809171627

The explosion, considered accidental, occurred in the suspect’s hotel room, located not far from Charles de Gaulle airport, suggesting that a serious situation was narrowly averted.

Given the importance of the situation, an area was evacuated while authorities investigated the incident. An investigation has been launched into allegations implicating the suspect in a conspiracy to commit violent acts and to illegally possess incendiary or explosive substances.

Getty Images

Investigations have revealed that the suspect, who has been treated at Gonesse hospital and is currently in police custody, is said to go by the nickname Maksym, a pro-Russian sympathizer who served in the Russian army for two years.

Maksym reportedly denies any terrorist intent and claimed that the explosion was accidental. However, authorities discovered suspicious materials concealed in plastic cases in his hotel room, in addition to fake passports, large sums of money and weapons.

The incident took place against a backdrop of heightened security in France, during the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, an event attended by US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski.

Getty Images

French authorities are also particularly vigilant with the approach of the 2024 Paris Olympics, alert to any potential terrorist plots or acts.

French law enforcement and intelligence services will certainly be under even greater pressure to investigate any potential threats after this incident, which could have had serious consequences.

Dr. Fauci blames Marjorie Taylor Greene for his death threats

In a tense hearing on the pandemic before the Republican-led House of Representatives, Dr. Anthony Fauci was questioned about the origins of COVID-19 and the government’s response. During the session, he claimed that Marjorie Taylor Greene’s malicious comments toward him were responsible for the death threats he and his family have received since the pandemic began.

In his first public appearance since leaving government in 2022, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases was the subject of a confrontational and emotional hearing on Capitol Hill as he faces partisan adversity.

Georgia’s controversial representative, Marjorie Taylor Greene, adopted a particularly aggressive attitude during her question period on the first day of the hearings, going so far as to refuse to acknowledge Fauci’s medical qualifications and infantilely calling him “Mr. Fauci” rather than “Doctor Fauci”. Fauci responded to the representative by stating that it was this type of comment that had led to numerous death threats against him in connection with these events.

Getty Images

These hearings will focus on the origins of the virus, certain policy measures relating to the pandemic, such as guidelines for social distancing, mandatory vaccination and the wearing of masks by children, as well as certain theories that have circulated, such as that of the laboratory leak.

Republican members of the committee expressed skepticism about the policies promoted by Dr. Fauci, arguing that they were not based on solid scientific evidence.

Getty Images

For their part, the committee’s Democratic members called Dr. Fauci an American hero and vigorously condemned hostile questions against him as totally irresponsible.

During his speech, Dr. Fauci revealed that he had received serious death threats aimed not only at himself, but also at his wife and daughters. The severity of these threats has necessitated ongoing protection. Fauci also mentioned that these threats had had disastrous repercussions on his health. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the threats.

The sharp contrast between Republicans and Democrats at this hearing underscores the continuing political divisions over the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.
