Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows indicted in Arizona

The Arizona U.S. Attorney’s Office has indicted several individuals associated with former President Donald Trump in a major case. They are involved in a fake voter scheme aimed at challenging the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Key figures such as former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, who served as White House chief of staff under the Trump administration, and Boris Epshteyn, a strategic advisor during Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign, are among those charged.

Giuliani has been accused of spreading unfounded allegations of voter fraud both in Arizona and nationwide. Mark Meadows has been identified as the coordinator of fake voter groups in several states. As for Epshteyn, he is accused of orchestrating an attempt to obstruct the certification process during Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Other indictments linked to the fake voter scheme in Arizona include Kelli Ward, former chairwoman of the Arizona Republican Party, who was a central figure in contesting election results, as well as her husband, Michael Ward, who was also heavily involved in these initiatives within the party.

Tyler Bowyer, head of national operations at Turning Point Action and an active member of the Republican Party in Arizona, and Anthony Kern, a former state representative and fervent Trump supporter, are also charged. Kern was actively involved in the 2020 general election ballot recount in a recount that took place after two audits revealed no evidence of widespread fraud in Arizona.

Added to the indictments are James Lamon, businessman and former Republican candidate, and Lorraine Pellegrino, vice chairwoman of the Arizona Republican Party, both of whom are also involved in various conservative initiatives. Several other people, who falsely represented themselves as Arizona voters, were also indicted.

These indictments are the result of actions taken in Arizona after the 2020 elections, in which Joe Biden was proclaimed the winner by a margin of 10,457 votes. Despite this official certification, a group of purported Republican voters assembled at Arizona GOP headquarters to sign a fraudulent certificate claiming that Trump had won the election. This document was subsequently sent to Congress and the National Archives.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes highlighted the scope of the investigation in recent months and reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining democratic integrity.

Court overturns Harvey Weinstein’s conviction and orders new trial

Harvey Weinstein’s judicial history has taken another dramatic turn, just when we thought the case was closed.

New York State’s highest court has overturned the rape conviction handed down in 2020 and ordered a new trial, which of course once again raises serious questions about judicial procedures in sexual abuse cases, especially in high-profile cases.

The decision was taken by a 4-3 vote, mainly due to the admission of testimony that was not directly related to the charges brought against Harvey Weinstein.

Harvey Weinstein was first convicted in 2020 of a criminal sexual act committed on a production assistant in 2006, and of the third-degree rape of a young actress in 2013.

For these crimes, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

He was also convicted in Los Angeles and sentenced to 16 years in prison for another rape that occurred in 2013.

The former producer will therefore remain in prison.

More details to come in this case…

A woman used her “uncle’s” corpse to get a loan

In an incident that made international headlines, a Brazilian woman is accused of dragging her dead “uncle” to a bank while she desperately tried to get a loan.

The incident took place at a banking establishment in Rio de Janeiro’s Bangu district, where a woman was filmed trying to prop up the head of a deceased man and place a pen in his hand to persuade him to sign financial documents for a $3,400 loan!

Although an employee noticed that the man was pale, the woman reportedly ignored their concerns, claiming that the corpse could co-sign the documents. At this point, the bank employees decided to alert the authorities.

The woman was quickly arrested by police after arriving on the scene. Paulo Roberto Braga, aged 68, died several hours before being taken to the bank, suggesting a premeditated fraud plan. According to witnesses present at the unusual event, the woman called the victim her “uncle” at the time of the incident, but many questions remain unanswered about her relationship with the man.

The woman has tried to maintain her innocence, claiming that Braga was alive when they arrived at the bank, and that there are witnesses to prove it. However, the evidence gathered so far paints a grim picture.

After the images of the incident were broadcast, many people immediately made the connection with the 1989 film Weekend at Bernie’s, in which two men pretend that their murdered employer is still alive.

9 arrested in gold heist case in Toronto airport

Authorities have made significant progress in their investigation into the theft that has shaken the aviation and security industries in Canada.

Last year, gold bars and a large quantity of silver were stolen during a flight from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, marking one of the country’s most daring crimes.

The suspects were eventually apprehended and will be brought to justice, reports CBC.

Local authorities, in coordination with U.S. authorities, announced the arrest of nine individuals in connection with this sensational robbery.

The criminals had managed to steal gold and cash worth over $20 million in a carefully planned robbery on April 17, 2023. One of the criminals had posed as an airline official, providing a false airway bill to facilitate access to the goods the suspects planned to steal.

The criminals succeeded in seizing a container containing 6,600 gold bars, totalling over 400 kilograms, as well as large sums of foreign currency. They then loaded everything onto a truck without arousing the slightest suspicion, carrying out the operation over a period of a few hours.

Authorities say they have uncovered a network of criminal activity as a result of this spectacular theft and subsequent arrests.

An American suspect, identified as a truck driver involved in the theft, was arrested during a routine traffic stop while in possession of 65 illegal firearms, leading to charges of arms trafficking. Surprisingly, this investigation and these firearms were also linked to gold theft in Canada.

Investigators reported that the stolen gold would probably have been melted down and disposed of quickly, with the profits used to support arms trafficking. During their investigations, they uncovered a melting kettle as well as molds that would have been used to reshape the stolen gold into various forms, including gold bracelets.

Three individuals, including a former Air Canada employee suspected of facilitating the theft, are still on the run.

The neverending divorce of Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan

The divorce between Hollywood stars Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan has turned into a complex and protracted dispute due to financial disagreements between the two former lovers.

Their disagreement concerns the sharing of profits from the Magic Mike franchise, a film series in which Tatum was both lead actor and producer. According to court documents from their divorce, Dewan claims that the project, which began in 2012 during their marriage, was jointly funded by their joint efforts and marital finances. The first film has since spawned several sequels, reality TV shows and Las Vegas shows.

Jenna Dewan’s team described their actions in the case as an attempt to achieve an equitable outcome under California state law. They expressed a desire to bring this chapter of Jenna’s life to a swift close.

‘Rust’ gunsmith sentenced to 18 months in prison

The judge responsible for the judgment has decided to impose the most severe sentence on Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, Rust’s gunsmith, for her role in the tragic incident that occurred during the film’s shooting on October 21, 2021.

This event unfortunately led to the death of director of photography Halyna Hutchins and serious injuries to director Joel Souza.

The jury previously found Gutierrez Reed guilty of manslaughter following the events, which also involved actor Alec Baldwin.

CaptureLaw&CrimeNetwork

During her address to the court, Gutierrez-Reed expressed her sadness and acknowledged the loss by the friends and family of Halyna Hutchins. She also stated that the media portrayal of her as a complete monster did not accurately reflect her true personality.

Despite Gutierrez-Reed’s words, the judge was not convinced and based her judgment more on Gutierrez-Reed’s lack of remorse, as well as on audio recordings of phone calls from the prison where she was awaiting sentence. In these recordings, Gutierrez-Reed minimized her culpability in the events.

Alec Baldwin was also charged with manslaughter, separate from the Gutierrez-Reed case. Baldwin, who has pleaded not guilty, will face his own trial on July 10.

If found guilty, Baldwin faces up to 18 months in prison as well.

600 million settlement in Ohio derailment case

In a landmark decision, Norfolk Southern has settled a class action lawsuit related to the highly controversial February 2023 derailment of a freight train in East Palestine, Ohio, USA, for $600 million.

The settlement follows a class action seeking compensation for the incendiary incident that resulted in the release of hazardous substances from several freight cars, forcing the evacuation of nearly 1,500 residents due to the potential threat of explosion.

Recall that on the night of February 3 in East Palestine, a town of around 4,800 near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border, Norfolk Southern freight train cars derailed due to a mechanical problem with an axle on one of the vehicles on a 150-car train, which was carrying toxic chemicals.

The settlement aims to resolve class action claims within a 20-mile (32 km) radius of the derailment site, as well as personal injury claims within a 10-mile (16 km) radius. Nevertheless, local residents, heavily impacted by the accident, are expressing concern about the possible long-term health effects of the many toxic products released into the soil, water and air.

Norfolk Southern has so far admitted no wrongdoing in this matter.
