House Democrats propose renaming a Miami federal prison after former President Donald Trump satirically, in response to a Republican proposal to rename Washington Dulles International Airport after him.

Three Democrats, Gerry Connolly of Virginia, Jared Moskowitz of Florida and John Garamendi of California, proposed sarcastically renaming the Miami Federal Correctional Institution to Donald J. Trump Federal Correctional Institution. The idea, sounding almost comical, is an ironic response to the Republican proposal to rename Dulles Airport in Virginia to Donald J. Trump International Airport.
Gerry Connolly, Dulles Airport District Representative, proposed renaming the prison in response to the Republican initiative. He insisted, on behalf of the Democratic Party, that renaming the prison after Trump would be the only tribute he truly deserved. Connolly argued that the Donald J. Trump Federal Correctional Institution would sound much better.
Some Republicans want to rename Dulles International Airport after Donald Trump.@RepMoskowitz, @RepGaramendi, and I think the "Donald J. Trump Federal Correctional Institution" has a better ring to it. https://t.co/B0MQi1HqZA

For his part, Florida’s Democratic Representative Jared Moskowitz joked about Donald Trump’s tendency to affix his name to his properties. He suggested ironically that if Trump’s name was going to be associated with a federal structure, it might as well be in an appropriate way. Moskowitz pointed out Trump’s many legal problems, including the multiple indictments he faces.
In his view, renaming the prison near Mar-a-Lago after the former president would be a fitting tribute given these circumstances.

Both bills are likely to stall due to the divided legislative chambers, of course.
Democrats control the Senate, where the GOP would be unable to rename Dulles.
The Republican-led House of Representatives does not approve of the Democrats’ proposal to rename the prisons.
However, it shows that the controversy surrounding the former U.S. president is still alive… and that U.S. representatives still have some time for humor.
Florida native Aimee Harris was convicted of her role in the theft and sale of several personal effects from Ashley Biden, daughter of Joe Biden, including a camera and a diary. She was sentenced to one month in federal prison, followed by three months of house arrest.
A Florida mother has been sentenced to a month in prison and three months of home confinement for stealing and selling President Biden’s daughter’s diary four years ago to the conservative group Project Veritas. https://t.co/JSz1BOHsns
The conviction came after a jury found her guilty of conspiracy to transport stolen property from one state to another. The woman sold Ashley Biden’s personal writings, found at a friend’s home in Delray Beach, Florida, in 2020. Prosecutors said Joe Biden’s daughter thought her belongings were safe there after staying there temporarily before the theft.

When Harris found Ashley Biden’s belongings, including her diary, she took them. Harris and Robert Kurlander, her co-defendant in the case, initially tried to approach Donald Trump’s former campaign to sell the documents, but were referred to the FBI. The stolen goods were eventually sold for $40,000 to Project Veritas, a conservative news site.
The judge in the case described the criminal acts of Aimee Harris and her accomplice as despicable.

The theft of Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden’s laptop also sparked controversy after it was reported in 2019. The laptop contained sensitive information about his business activities and personal life. The circumstances of the theft remain unclear, but it attracted attention during the 2020 US presidential campaign, and continues to do so today.

James and Jennifer Crumbley were sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison for their involvement in the Oxford shooting, which shook Michigan and the country in November 2021 and was orchestrated by their son, Ethan Crumbley.

For the first time in US history, parents are being held legally responsible for the actions of their children in mass shootings. They were found guilty of four counts of manslaughter. Prosecutors claim that their inaction and negligence contributed to a tragedy that could have been anticipated.
The Crumbleys were found directly responsible for the tragic events through their conduct or inaction in this high-profile trial in the United States. Experts see this case as a crucial test case for defining responsibility in mass shootings. They also point to the evolution of the legal system, which can now hold not only the direct perpetrators, but also those who incited them, accountable for their actions.

Prosecutors highlighted the lack of remorse shown by the shooter’s parents, as well as their failure to react to multiple red flags raised by their son in the weeks leading up to the shooting, which resulted in the deaths of four people.
Each of the victims’ families made statements before sentencing. The judge, for her part, highlighted the Crumbleys’ inaction, which subsequently led to this terrible event.
This unprecedented conviction sets a new milestone in the field of justice for mass shootings in the United States and criminal responsibility for both those directly and indirectly involved in such acts.
