CAT-6 hurricanes may be coming soon!

Some scientists are considering updating the Saffir-Simpson scale, which has been in use for almost 50 years. They suggest adding a category 6, as studies indicate that climate change is causing a new type of superstorm, Axios reports.

Since its creation in the 1970s, the Saffir-Simpson scale has been the standard for determining hurricane intensity.

It was developed by Herbert Saffir and Robert Simpson. The scale classifies storms into five categories according to their sustained winds. Category 5 storms are those with wind speeds in excess of 157 mph that cause severe damage. A warmer climate provides more energy for storms.

Category 5 hurricanes are therefore more intense and more frequent. As a result, experts are now considering changes to the classification.

They have found that five storms, including Hurricane Patricia and super typhoon Haiyan since 2013, could fall into this new Category 6.

A CAT-6 translates into stronger winds, heavier rainfall and more devastating storm surges. The study shows a trend of increasing wind speeds since 1982. This suggests that global warming will continue to increase the frequency of Category 6 storms.

The intensity of extreme hurricanes is increasing, even if their number remains stable. Hurricanes such as Haiyan, Patricia and others have set the tone. Patricia reached wind speeds of 215 mph, an intensity never seen before.

Critics of this proposed update exist, however, and argue that the damage caused by a Category 5 storm is already so extensive that there’s no need for a new categorization.

The Saffir-Simpson scale, in its current form, only measures wind speed. This is not a good indicator of a storm’s destructive potential. The classification does not take into account factors such as storm size, storm surge and the impact of flooding, even though these are often the factors that cause the worst damage.

The devastating effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Maria highlight the limitations of current classifications for measuring the destructive power of a storm.

The experts at the National Hurricane Center are not in favor of an update, however.

Snoop Dogg sues Walmart for sabotage!

Rap icons Snoop and Master P have filed a lawsuit against cereal manufacturer Post Consumer Brands and retail giant Walmart, alleging corporate misconduct that harmed their Broadus Foods business and Snoop Cereal product line.

The stars accuse Post Consumer Brands and Walmart of engaging in deceptive practices!

The hip-hop entrepreneurs claim in a complaint filed in Minnesota’s Dakota County District Court, where Post is headquartered, that the company had no intention of treating Snoop Cereal on an equal footing with their own products, even if they had entered into a profit-sharing agreement. The complaint states that Walmart posted Snoop cereals as being out of stock or sold out online, while Walmart employees conducted physical inventories and found sufficient stock in the back stores.

Snoop cereals were being sold at over $10 a box, in direct contradiction to Broadus Foods’ goal of offering affordable food products. Ben Crump said Broadus Foods was created by the rappers to encourage the economic empowerment of minorities and support charities that deal with homelessness and hunger. The rapper claims that deceptive practices and high prices were part of Post’s plan to prevent the brand from gaining traction.

In a statement to TMZ, Post Consumer Brands said it was disappointed that consumer demand had not lived up to expectations. It also said that substantial investments had been made in this sector. Walmart responded to these allegations by stating that it valued its relationships with suppliers. It also cited factors such as seasonality and price that affect product sales. Walmart said it would act appropriately after service of the formal complaint.

Broadus Foods was founded in 2022 by Calvin Broadus, Snoop Dogg and Percy Miller, Master P. The company is committed to supporting underserved communities and diversifying the industry. Last summer, it launched cereals such as Frosted Drizzlers and Cinnamon Toasteez to offer a breakfast alternative while contributing to charitable causes. A portion of cereal sales was donated to organizations such as Door of Hope.

Master P and Snoop Dogg had already attempted a similar breakfast-themed launch under the name Snoop Loopz. This initiative was challenged by Kellogg, the owner of Froot Loops, for trademark infringement.

Trump has no presidential immunity, appeals court rules

A federal appeals court in Washington D.C. has ruled, in a landmark decision, that former President Donald Trump cannot use his presidential immunity to shield himself from criminal prosecution for alleged acts against the 2020 election results, The Associated Press reports.

Trump’s team argued for years that his role as president gave him immunity from such charges, citing the steps he had taken as part of his duties to maintain the integrity of the elections.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia unanimously rejected this argument, making Mr. Trump, now a U.S. citizen, equally vulnerable to prosecution under U.S. law. The court’s decision rejects the idea that Mr. Trump would be protected by executive immunity after leaving office. This is a major setback for the ex-president, who faces four criminal charges related to election meddling.

Mr. Trump has denied charges of conspiracy to defraud and obstruction.

Trump could take the case to the Supreme Court, where the conservative majority currently holds a 6-3 majority.

The ongoing developments could mark a turning point in the legal case surrounding Donald Trump’s future post-presidential term and set a historic precedent on executive powers and legal obligations.

Universal removes Taylor Swift, Drake and Rihanna from TikTok

A dispute between a music industry heavyweight and TikTok could lead to major changes in TikTok’s short music video offering.

Universal Music Group is refusing to renew licenses for its music on the platform, arguing that TikTok has not offered adequate compensation.

Major adjustments are therefore envisaged…

Universal Music Group, which represents an impressive number of stars including Taylor Swift, Drake, Rihanna, Olivia Rodrigo and The Weeknd. has announced that it is withdrawing its entire catalog due to a major contractual dispute between the two companies.

TikTok, in a reaction that underscores the escalating tensions, accused UMG of spinning a false rhetoric and narrative and of prioritizing greed over the interests of its artists and songwriters. TikTok also points out that the platform has over a billion users, which is a powerful promotional tool for UMG.

Getty Images

UMG has stepped up its fight against TikTok, accusing it of using intimidation techniques. It claims that the app has removed music from certain emerging artists, but retained tracks from internationally recognized stars.

UMG claims that this strategy is designed to intimidate the label into accepting a deal that does not reflect TikTok’s rapid growth or its reliance on music as content.

Judge stops Elon Musk from collecting $55.8 billion from Tesla

In an unexpected turn of events that sent shockwaves through the business world, a Delaware judge has ruled against the $55.8 billion package awarded to Elon Musk by Tesla last year.

The judge described the maneuver as unfair to shareholders and ordered its cancellation.

This decision is a blow to Tesla’s CEO, who recently had a disagreement with the Board of Directors over his stake in the company.

A shareholder argued that a record compensation plan had been awarded inappropriately and called for its cancellation.

McCormick’s detailed 200-page ruling highlighted numerous problems with the compensation process, such as Musk’s power over the board and conflicts of interest.

Getty Images

Mr. Musk’s enormous compensation package, the largest in U.S. corporate history, had not been properly negotiated, it seems.

Ms. McCormick also criticized the role of Todd Maron as Tesla’s General Counsel, a former Musk divorce lawyer. She was concerned about the interaction between Mr. Musk and those representing Tesla, as well as the potential for conflict of interest.

Musk’s agreement was rejected by the judge, whose decision may be appealed to the Delaware Supreme Court. Tesla, Musk and the shareholders are now responsible for implementing the decision.

Tesla shares fell after the announcement. This reflects market concern about possible fallout.

Musk reacted to the decision by taking to his social media platform, X, in a provocative tone, advising people against incorporating in Delaware. The state is renowned for its business-friendly legislation and low taxes. Musk expressed his preference for Nevada and Texas, where Tesla has its headquarters, claiming that they offer a shareholder-friendly atmosphere.

Business and legal circles will be keeping a close eye on the potential implications of this landmark case for corporate governance in the future.
