Daniel Briere caught off guard on live TV when asked about his son Carson’s legal trouble

Earlier this month, it was reported that Philadelphia Flyers interim GM Daniel Briere’s oldest son Carson was seen tossing a wheelchair down a flight of stars at a party and now faces potential criminal punishment. He is also banned for life from the pub where the disturbing incident took place, and owners have made it clear they will contact authorities if he comes back on scene.

On Tuesday night, as the Montreal Canadiens were in Philly to take on the Flyers, Briere was a guest on RDS to answer questions about his new role in French. However, he was caught off guard when the host Pierre Houle asked him about his son’s actions and the impact it had on him as he was named interim GM at the same time. It is easy to tell that Briere isn’t all that comfortable with the question and wishes to quickly move on, though he did answer that Carson had learned a lot and was regretful, and that his actions did not reflect the Briere’s family values.

This is the interview in French from RDS:

When the video of Carson tossing a wheelchair down a flight of stars at a party went viral, Brier had reacted to his son’s unacceptable actions, stating: “I was shocked to see Carson’s actions in the video that was shared on social media yesterday. They are inexcusable and run completely counter to our family’s values on treating people with respect. Carson is very sorry and accepts full responsibility for his behavior.”

He had the time to prepare a statement, but was clearly caught off guard on live television when asked to react some more to the incident.

Briere did manage to answer properly and we sure hope that he also found the right words when he faced his son.

Humboldt Broncos player arrested after driving his truck into a house!

The Humboldt Broncos of the SJHL have announced that 20 year old goaltender Jared Picklyk is suspended indefinitely after his arrest this past weekend.

Saskatchewan RCMP announced that Picklyk was taken into custody at 1:25am Saturday, just hours after the Broncos eliminated the Nipawin Hawks in the SJHL playoffs. Picklyk allegedly drove off the road and actually ran into a home on 12th ave in Humboldt, SK. He was arrested on scene after refusing to comply with police and declining an alcohol breath screening test.

There were no injuries in the crash and RCMP say they’re still investigating the incident. It’s unclear how long Picklyk’s suspension will last but given that this is his final season of junior eligibility, it seems like his junior career is over. The Kelowna, BC native is undrafted in the NHL and has played for the WHL’s Lethbridge Hurricanes and Tri-City Americans.

Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde ejected from game

Frsutrations boiled over for Detroit Red Wings bench boss Derek Lalonde on Tuesday night against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins, and thanks to whatever it was that he said against the on-ice referee, he was removed from the game and assessed his first career ejection.

The game misconduct game not long after Penguins forward Jeff Carter was ruled to have legally scored a goal, and it withstood a challenge from Detroit for goaltender interference:

Red Wings assistant coach Bob Boughner would take over as acting head coach for the remainder of the game, an eventual 7-4 Red Wings victory.

Lalonde becomes the 2nd NHL bench boss to get the gate during a game this season, following San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn earlier in the year.

Dustin Byfuglien’s photo gets leaked and fans are stunned by his look!

Since Dustin Byfuglien walked away from a contract worth around $14 million with the Winnipeg Jets in 2019, the defenseman has barely made any public appearances or done a whole lot of interviews. In April 2020, it was made official, and Byfuglien stepped away from hockey.

He has however been seen during ice fishing competitions and on Tuesday night a fan posted a picture of Byfuglien after one of the tournaments on social media.

Big Buff is holding a beer and stands next to two fishermen holding a trophy.

Could you imagine the damage he’d do on the ice with this size?!

Back in his playing days in the NHL, Byfuglien was a nightmare to play against thanks to his size and speed, but also his hockey IQ. While he hasn’t played in the big league since April 6, 2019, he still has his intimidating shape.

Fans are delighted to get this Big Buff sighting and the photo quickly made the rounds on social media, with fans absolutely loving it.

In his last season in the NHL, Byfuglien only played 42 games, but he still recorded 31 points.

Oilers’ Klim Kostin steals reporter’s microphone and leaves on live TV!

The Edmonton Oilers rolled past the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night, getting the 7-4 win and making the Pacific Division playoff race even tighter in the last stretch of the regular season.

The Oilers were celebrating as soon as they got off the ice on the way to the dressing room where the club’s TV host Tony Brar was posted with his microphone to catch the reactions of the players.

However, he never expected one of them to steal and leave with his microphone. As Brar was commenting next to the Oilers entering the tunnel, forward Klim Kostin grabbed the microphone and continued walking, bringing the mic in the dressing room with him. Brar was left laughing in front of the camera, but without the necessary microphone to do his job.

This is hilarious:

It is fun to see that the Oilers are in a good mood and looking to repeat the feeling with just more than two weeks left in the regular season.

This was not the first time Kostin was messing with Brar. The forward seems to be making sure the reporter is always on his toes around him!

Edmonton faces the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday in a battle for playoff positioning in the Pacific Division.

Let’s hope Brar gets his microphone back before then!

Jets’ Rick Bowness throws his star players under the bus amidst playoff race!

The Winnipeg Jets fell 3-0 to the San Jose Sharks Tuesday, allowing the Calgary Flames to close within two points of the team for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Head coach Rick Bowman has had enough and after the loss, he called out his players as Winnipeg could end up out of the playoff thanks to its latest performances.

“The offence gave us a chance to win the game, we just didn’t score. Then, the inconsistencies with some of our players is hurting us.

“Some of these guys think they’re giving us everything in their tank. They’re dreaming. We have a lot of guys in there giving us everything they can. We just need a few more guys to jump on board.

“It’s not over. We’re still in eighth spot. We’re going to find out what we’re made of over the next little while.”

There is no doubt that the Jets need to do more, especially with the Flames finally battling for a playoff spot. In their last seven games, the Jets suffered their third shutout defeat. Winnipeg has a 6-7-1 record since the March 3 trade deadline and has the Flames and the Nashville Predators breathing down its neck in the wild-card race.

The Jets missed the playoffs last season and were hoping that bringing in Bowness as their new head coach would get the team back on track.

The Jets now have seven games remaining in their season, including a home game against both the Flames and Predators next week in most-win scenarios all around.

Will the players have the right answer to Bowness publicly calling them out?

Taylor Hall unable to return to Bruins’ lineup!

Boston Bruins forward Taylor Hall has been absent since February 25 thank to a lower body injury he suffered on the team road swing. While he has returned to team practice and reportedly feels ready to come back from LTIR list, the Bruins cannot facilitate his return.

Darren Dreger explained on last night’s Insider Trading on TSN how the Bruins don’t have the cap space to facilitate such a roster move.

“We know, according to reports and video, that Hall has been skating with the Bruins for several days now. Sources say that he feels he is ready. The problem is the Bruins don’t have the cap space to activate Hall. Now the NHL playoffs are less than three weeks away so it’s going to be interesting to see how the Bruins manage this situation or, if like the Tampa Bay Lightning a few years ago, they try and stretch it out until the start of the postseason so it’s something that I’m sure other clubs are paying attention to as well.”

When Hall was placed on long-term injured reserve in March, the Bruins were able to absorb the salary of Tyler Bertuzzi, whom they acquired in a swap with the Detroit Red Wings at the NHL trade deadline. Boston saved as much as $6 million by placing Hall on LTIR.

But now that he’s ready to return, money is too tight… Per Cap Friendly, Boston currently has just $39,062 in available cap space, which is far from enough to bring Hall back.

The NHL rules would however allow the Bruins to bring Hall back for the postseason without going over the salary cap. This is a loophole that was used by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2021 with star forward Nikita Kucherov, and it was potentially part of Boston’s plan all along.

The Bruins have already clinched a playoff spot and with just nine games left in the regular season, it makes sense that Hall will only return once the postseason gets underway in mid-April.

Canadiens have added leverage to force a Pierre-Luc Dubois trade!

For months and months now, plenty of rumours have pointed to Winnipeg Jets’ Pierre-Luc Dubois eventually joining the Montreal Canadiens. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman recently confirmed that the Habs and Jets have spoken during the season regarding a potential trade in the summer, and Dubois has hinted at his desire to play in Montreal more than once in the past, giving the Habs significant leverage.

Now the time is ideal for the Canadiens to put the ultimate plan in motion to force a trade with the Jets to acquire Dubois as Montreal holds added layer of leverage thanks to the offer sheet trap.

As Montreal Hockey Now points out Dubois is scheduled become a restricted free agent for the last time in his career in July. You know where this is going right? If Dubois remains unsigned after July 1st, the Canadiens would have a four-day window to submit an offer sheet to Dubois. Seeing that Dubois will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2024, this means he only has one more season to complete in order to attain full autonomy. This is where the Canadiens have the upper hand:

“The Canadiens could thus present Dubois would a one-year, $6.4M offer sheet between July 1 and 5th and it could quite literally put the Jets in a bind.

If the Jets were to match the offer sheet, they would enter into a binding contract with Dubois for the upcoming season, but there’s a catch.

The NHL CBAalso stipulates that they would also be unable to trade Dubois for a full calendar year; meaning that they would essentially lose Dubois for nothing as he walks into free agency on July 1, 2024.

If the Jets chose not to match it and take the compensation, all the Canadiens would have to give up is their 2024 1st-round and 3rd-round picks.

They would then be able to talk long-term extension with Dubois as of January 1, 2024.”

This is a significant ace up Canadiens GM Kent Hughes’ sleeve as he will look to settle a deal with the Jets for Dubois, who will not stay in Winnipeg.

Hughes is likely to use this added leverage to finally convince Jets general manager Kevyn Cheveldayoff to pull the trigger on a trade. Hughes could dangle the 2023 first-round pick he acquired from the Florida Panthers or draw from his deep pool of promising young players to make an offer the Jets won’t be able to refuse.

Keith Tkachuk rips Matthew’s Panthers, claims they should play like Brady’s Senators!

Keith Tkachuk may be a five-time NHL All-Star, but he is first and foremost the father of Florida Panthers top forward

Matthew and Ottawa Senators’ captain Brady. He remains a hockey dad and on Wednesday, he had some choice word for his oldest’s team on Toronto 1050 ahead of tonight’s game against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

Keith Tkachuk revealed how devastated Matthew is with the Panthers’ current spot in the playoff run as Florida rides a four-game losing streak. Keith believes the Panthers are in the position they currently are because of their own doing. He was in attendance Monday night when the Panthers lost 5-2 to Brady and the Senators and he was not impressed with Matthew’s team.

“This is do-or-die for the Panthers right now,” Keith told First Up with Korolnek & Colaiacovo.

“I watched them the other night and I know I am staying at Brady’s house and Brady’s team played really well. They have some jam and, you know, I am a little disappointed with the Panthers.

“They are a soft team and they are getting everything they deserve right now.”

Keith Tkachuk was not done there. He believes that the Panthers need to bring a little more toughness to their game if they want to snap their losing streak. And maybe start playing like… the Senators!

“Instead of trying to get autographs on the ice from Matthews and Marner,” he said, “they probably should check them a little harder. Whatever it is, it is disappointing. I know I sound like a frustrated person, but I know every time I come and watch Ottawa, they may not be the most talented team but they’re going to play hard.

”Perhaps Florida could take a page out of their book.”

Keith Tkachuk is adamant that Matthew enjoys playing in Florida, but admits he is not thrilled with how this season has gone.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s action, the Panthers are three points back of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final wild card spot with eight games to play.

Aaron Ekblad reacts to public humiliation by pro golfer Brooks Koepka!

On Monday, a video was trending on social media that put a lot of heat on Florida Panthers’ Aaron Ekblad.

Over the weekend, as the Panthers hosted the New York Rangers, pro golfer Brooks Koepka was filmed, shouting and calling Ekblad a “f****** traffic cone” while holding a traffic cone himself. He also shouted “Ekblad you suck!”

This happened as the Panthers went down 4-3 at the hands of the New York Rangers despite going 2-0 up early on. Koepka used the pylon to insult Ekblad, referring to him as a slow defenseman that can easily be skated past, just like a cone that is used during practice sessions.

On Wednesday, Ekblad reacted to the footage and stated that he does not know Koepka and that they “aren’t buddies.”

“(We’ll) never be buddies.”

Koepka tees it up in Orlando this week in the third event of the LIV Golf League this season. He used the opportunity to attend a Panthers’ game, and quite honestly, look like a fool.

Ekblad clearly isn’t going to lose sleep over this.
