Your ChatGPT chats might have been visible to other users

Be careful of what you search for on ChatGPT because other users might be able to see it.

OpenAI took down ChatGPT for several hours on March 20th to fix a bug that exposed chat titles to other users, as reported by Bloomberg. According to a spokesperson for OpenAI, the bug did not share full transcripts of conversations, but only provided brief descriptive titles.

The bug was first reported by a Reddit user who posted a photo showing descriptions of several ChatGPT conversations that they said were not their own, followed by several other users reporting the issue.

To fix the issue, OpenAI temporarily shut down ChatGPT on Monday. The service was brought back online later in the day, but the chat history sidebar was replaced with a message stating that the history feature was temporarily unavailable. The chat history sidebar still reads, “History is temporarily unavailable. We’re working to restore this feature as soon as possible.”

The cause of the issue is believed to be a bug in an unnamed piece of open-source software. According to OpenAI’s ChatGPT status page, it has completely resolved the issue where user chat history would be visible to other users, but it’s not clear when chat history will return to the sidebar.

Public Mobile offering $40/mo 15GB plan for a limited time

Telus’ Public Mobile is offering $20 off its 15GB plan, making it just $40/mo.

The limited-time offer isn’t stackable with other promotions or offers. Moreover, the Public Mobile website doesn’t specify how long the offer will be available for.

The plan, which typically costs $60/mo, includes 15GB of data at 4G speed, which the provider notes is up to 100Mbps.

Beyond that, the plan includes unlimited Canada-wide minutes and unlimited international text and picture messaging.

Public Mobile’s $40/15GB offer as of March 21st, 2023

Overall, the isn’t too bad. To get a similar amount of data from, say, a Koodo or Fido, you’d be looking at about $55/mo for 10GB or $60/mo for 20GB. Getting more data for less is always nice.

You can check out the offer here.

HBO’s The Last of Us may return for Season 2 by ‘end of 2024, early 2025’

It’s been just over a week since HBO’s The Last of Us concluded its nine-episode run. The adaptation of Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed game received similar praise for its storytelling. Though, fans awaiting the sophomore season may want to strap in.

The Last of Us Season 2 may not arrive until late 2024 — at the earliest.

In a recent interview with The Independent, Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie Williams, discussed that production will likely begin towards the end of the year. Based on her rough timeline, Ramsey doesn’t expect The Last of Us Season 2 to debut until the end of next year. “It will be a while. I think we’ll probably shoot at the end of this year, beginning of next,” Ramsey states. “So it’ll probably be the end of 2024, early 2025.”

Ramsey’s sentiments regarding this year’s production schedule are also echoed by co-star Pedro Pascal. In a separate interview, Pascal stated that the second season would begin production in late 2023.

None of this should come as a surprise, given historically, HBO doesn’t rush the production of its premier programming. This has been the case with Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Westworld and more. While the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic impacted the production of The Last of Us’ debut season, the series did shoot for nearly a year in Alberta, Canada

It’s difficult to say whether production will be as strenuous this time around or even if The Last of Us will return to shoot in Alberta. That said, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann both strive to use as many practical effects and locations as possible.

Druckmann has already confirmed that the adaptation of The Last of Us Part 2 will be “more than one season.” This past weekend, the co-creator of the game and series posted a teaser for Season 2 and the introduction of Abby, a prominent character from The Last of Us Part II. This all but confirms the trajectory of the series and the direction Season 2 will take.

All episodes of The Last of Us Season 1 are available to stream on Crave in Canada.

The Completionist spent $22,000 purchasing every Wii U and 3DS game prior to eShop closure

On Monday, March 27th, Nintendo is sunsetting the eShop for the Wii U and 3DS. As part of Nintendo’s plan to shutter its marketplace, every game and DLC will no longer be available to purchase on either device. YouTuber ‘The Completionist’ took it upon himself to purchase every game available ahead of the shutdown.

In a recently published Youtube video, The Completionist claims to have purchased all 866 Wii U and 1,547 3DS games available in the eShop. This also includes DSi and Virtual Console titles and respective DLC. This entire ordeal cost over $22,791 USD (roughly $31,146 CAD).

To compile a library of Nintendo games, The Completionist required three external hard drives for the Wii U and four micro SD cards for 3DS. The results came to a staggering 1.2TB of Wii U games and 267GB on 3DS. The latter translates to 2,136,689 blocks, which is the figure Nintendo uses to track storage on the handheld.

This journey of purchasing every Nintendo game on the brink of endangerment by way of the eShop’s closure was also a battle of time. Nintendo’s eShops on Wii U and 3DS are more archaic than the current version on the Switch. On Nintendo hardware, the marketplace runs slower and features less-than-ideal search functions. Additionally, funds pose a major hurdle. Because of this, it took The Completionist 328 days to finish this endeavour.

As shown in the video above, a lot of time was spent purchasing eShop gift cards. Limits on purchases are in place to prevent scams. Plus, the marketplace has a $250 USD cap. The Completionist also had to work around Nintendo’s limit of purchasing 10 games at a time prior to installing them. Throughout the video, he shows how even purchasing DLC for some games meant doing so in-game rather than in the eShop.

The Completionist concludes the video by emphasizing the importance of video game preservation. This idea that games can be fleeting and erased from existence is a very real concern within the industry. The Completionist states that all hard drives and SD cards loaded with the Wii U and 3DS titles are being donated to the Video Game History Foundation.

Former Meta security exec fell victim to ‘Predator’ spyware attack

Artemis Seaford, former security policy manager at Meta, had been under surveillance by the Greek national intelligence service for an entire year using commercially available spyware known as “Predator,” as shared by The New York Times.

According to the publication, Seaford’s phone was bugged in September 2021. Seaford, who holds both Greek and US citizenship, is reportedly the first known American citizen to be targeted by the commercially available spyware. She discovered that she had been spied on after her name appeared on a leaked list of spyware targets in the Greek news media in November 2022. Between getting infected and realizing that her phone had been bugged, Seaford was secretly under surveillance by the Greek national intelligence service.

Seaford eventually took her phone to Citizen Lab, a digital research unit with the University of Toronto, which confirmed that her phone had been infected with the malware.

It is unclear why Seaford was targeted by the Greek national intelligence service. The Greek government denies that it used spyware to hack and track Seaford. A representative from the government told the New York Times that “the Greek authorities and security services have at no time acquired or used the Predator surveillance software.” It added, “the alleged use of this software by nongovernmental parties is under ongoing judicial investigation.”

Seaford hopes that her story will encourage other victims of spyware abuse to speak out. “I hope is this story will encourage other victims of spyware abuse to speak out. There are more of us out there, and our stories should be neither instrumentalized nor silenced,” tweeted Seaford. “We deserve better. Ultimately, we need our governments and EU bodies to protect us.”

Apple reportedly developing a foldable with unique screen protection mechanism

Apple has long been rumoured to be working on a foldable version of its iPhone, but the Cupertino-based company has never provided any official confirmation about development.

A new patent, reviewed by Business Insider indicates that the company is indeed exploring the possibility of a foldable iPhone, and is also looking for ways to protect the foldable’s screen from damage if it is dropped.

The patent application is titled “Self-retracting display device and techniques for protecting screen using drop detection,” and it shows a device that includes a fall detector or accelerometer that triggers a release mechanism to automatically retract the foldable display when the device is dropped. The patent does include a limitation for the technology, saying that the foldable’s display might not fully retract when it is dropped close to the ground/from a low altitude.

To address this issue, the patent application proposes that even folding the display to an angle less than 180 degrees can still offer some protection to the device. This is because the mobile device can strike edges of the mobile device instead of the display itself.

While this latest patent application doesn’t necessarily confirm that Apple is actively developing a foldable iPhone, it does indicate that the company is still exploring the idea.

Samsung reportedly developing Exynos 2300 for use in Tensor G3

In the past, Samsung has used its Exynos chips in its Galaxy flagships, just not in Canada or the United States. However, this year the company’s S23 series sported Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 globally, ditching the development of a new Exynos 2300 series.

But it looks like a new Exynos chip is still in the works. Recent reports indicate Samsung’s semiconductor division is working on a new flagship processor codenamed “Quadra.”

A report from IT Home says that the Exynos 2300 will feature a Cortex-X3 prime CPU core that operates at a maximum frequency of 3.09GHz. The chip also reportedly sports four Cortex-A715 cores that clock at 2.65GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores that clock at 2.1GHz. Graphics-wise, the chip Exynos 2300 will use a semi-custom Xclipse 930 GPU based on AMD’s RDNA2 architecture and boasts a frequency of up to 1.4GHz.

Google will continue working with Samsung to implement the Exynos 2300 within the Tensor G3 chip, which will likely be featured in Google’s still-unannounced Pixel 8 series.
