Kaiden Guhle would have been cut and he was bleeding, according to what Tony Marinaro heard

What is happening with Kaiden Guhle? That is the question everyone is asking right now.

According to what Tony Marinaro heard (and what he was able to report this morning on the airwaves of BPM Sports), Kaiden Guhle was cut and he was bleeding.

Marinaro mentioned this around 10:30 this morning.

Because Guhle fell on his own, this might look a bit surprising. But when looking at the sequence, it’s clear that there is a chance his own skate could have injured him.

And this would explain Martin St-Louis’ reaction when he received a medical update about his player.

Right now, everyone is trying to figure out what happened with Guhle. And considering he fell on his own, it’s either a cut or his knee didn’t absorb the shock of the fall well. Unless someone has another scenario in mind?

But if it is indeed a cut, it wouldn’t fall under the category of “he is injury-prone” because it’s a strange accident. But in the meantime, we can still remember that Guhle is often injured…

It should be noted that the Canadiens announced Jayden Struble’s return to the NHL in the last few minutes. We can expect to see him play in tomorrow’s game, although nothing has been confirmed yet by the Canadiens or anyone else.

Let’s see what comes out in the next few hours.

– Treatment day for Josh Anderson. Again.

– Just like yesterday.

Jayden Struble recalled by the Canadiens

It’s done.

Jayden Struble has been recalled by the Canadiens. He will likely be present at the Canadiens’ practice today, and we might expect to see him playing in tomorrow night’s game.

It will depend on Kaiden Guhle’s health status, I suppose.

It’s worth noting that last week, the Canadiens “loaned” Struble to the Rocket for conditioning purposes. The goal? When he starts playing again with the Habs, he needs to be in shape.

The gamble seems to have paid off since he went to stretch his legs down there, and now, if needed, he will be ready.

It’s important to mention that we are still waiting for news on Guhle, but we can expect, given the current circumstances, that the Habs’ top defenseman will be absent for a while.

In my opinion, Struble is there to play tomorrow.

Seeing the Habs making a recall is not surprising. This morning, I wrote a piece suggesting it was logical to believe that a defenseman (Struble) would be recalled this morning and that another one could be recalled on Friday before heading to California.

Could it be Logan Mailloux? We shall see.

In Struble’s case, if he plays tomorrow, we will see with whom he will play. If I were the coach, I would pair him with David Savard on a third pair, and I would move Arber Xhekaj up with Alexandre Carrier to stabilize the more at-risk guys by pairing them with an experienced right-shot Quebecer.

And of course, in the meantime, we will monitor Kaiden Guhle’s health status.

in brief

– Note.

– A must-read.

– No less.

Ranking: the Canadiens are (only) two points away from the playoffs

For the past few days, things have not been going well for the Canadiens.

Is it a disaster? No, it’s not a disaster. But let’s say that victories aren’t coming as quickly as the club had accustomed fans right after the holidays.

I say it’s not a disaster not because of the upcoming draft, but because the club is still in a position to aspire to make the playoffs. Right now, the Canadiens are only two points behind the Lightning and the last playoff spot in the standings.

(Credit: NHL.com)

Yesterday, the Bruins and the Lightning (the two second-best teams) lost. The Rangers also fell, which prevented them from surpassing the Canadiens in the standings.

However, it won’t be like this every night.

For a week now, the Canadiens have resumed their bad habit of leaving points on the table: the team has only earned one point in three games. There isn’t much uproar in the city because the CH wasn’t expected to be this high in the standings… but it’s not ideal either.

If the CH wants to stay #InTheMix, it will need to ensure it wins games.

Of course, yesterday’s game was a good challenge. We knew the Jets had a chance to win, and at least, Martin St-Louis’s players were not completely outplayed.

The coach, who saw his players start the game well, said he liked what he saw from them, even though there was a lack of opportunism. Yesterday, the puck just wasn’t rolling for the Canadiens.

But the challenge for a club like the Canadiens is to play for 60 minutes. It’s nice to start the game strong and shoot more than the Jets at the beginning of the match… but you need to play every minute of the game.

The goal by Winnipeg at the very end of the second period is a good example. It’s part of the learning process for a club like the Canadiens.

In the 4-1 defeat of the Canadiens yesterday, the CH didn’t always look good, but it’s not all doom and gloom either. What do I take away from this matchup against one of the powers in the NHL?

Apart from the injury to Kaiden Guhle (which we discussed at length this morning), of course…

1. Lane Hutson wasn’t playing with Mike Matheson yesterday – at least at the start of the game. He was playing instead with Kaiden Guhle… and he was positioned on the right side. So it was a good challenge for him.

But it went well. At least, the coach is happy with what Hutson, who “appears” less on the ice these days, brought to the rink.

2. Patrik Laine is another player whose star is starting to fade a bit. He hasn’t scored in his last four games and he’s not the most involved among the power play players.

Yesterday, he only received 13:47 of ice time. It seems like the CH was only playing one line yesterday (the first), and Laine’s performance may explain why.

3. Michael Pezzetta had a good game… within the limits of what he can bring. He played for five minutes, but those were five good minutes for his coach.

I know a Quebecer who must be wondering when he will get his chance… #RHP

overtime

The Canadiens will practice this morning at 11:30 in Brossard. The goal? To prepare for the visit of the Wild and Marc-André Fleury, who will be playing theoretically his last career game at the Bell Centre.

Will Jayden Struble be at practice? We’ll see.

Kaiden Guhle’s injury: expect to see two call-ups in the coming days

Last night, the Canadiens lost to the Jets by a score of 4-1.

That said, it’s not the main takeaway from the game. What stands out is that Kaiden Guhle got injured during the match. His health status is quite uncertain.

Injuring yourself like that when your skate gets caught is never a good sign, let’s say.

Obviously, because the Canadiens have announced nothing more than “Guhle is day-to-day for a thorough evaluation of his lower body” at the moment, it’s understandable to worry. Martin St-Louis’s reaction when he received an update on his defender’s health caught attention.

I know we can’t judge the situation solely on that… but the coach’s eyes spoke volumes yesterday.

Moreover, this is not the first time Guhle has been hurt in his career. And it’s not even the first time he has injured his knee, as happened during his rookie season.

Often, Guhle gets injured during a game and even if it’s minor, we know he is injury-prone. Last night’s game appears to be a somewhat different case based on the information we have at hand.

What doesn’t help keep hopes up is that in the locker room, the atmosphere was low.

After the game, captain Nick Suzuki didn’t exactly hide his fears. Seeing Guhle leave the rink the way he did did not create a good feeling in the locker room.

It’s a terrible feeling. — Nick Suzuki

It’s a sentiment that was shared in the locker room. Even Martin St-Louis, when asked about the matter, stated that losing Guhle for just one game hurts.

As Anthony Marcotte said, it is clear the coach fears the worst.

Because the Canadiens have been relatively spared in terms of injuries this season (I am referring to the regular season as training camp has been harsh, with Patrik Laine and David Reinbacher), it’s not surprising to see a situation like this arise.

A season without injuries doesn’t exist. #EmilHeineman #KaidenGuhle

But the Canadiens, no matter how fortunate they have been at the start of the season, will have to react. Assuming Kaiden Guhle is injured, the team currently has only five healthy defensemen.

In view of tomorrow’s game, a defenseman will need to be called up if Guhle has to sit out. Jayden Struble, who is conditioning down below, could be an option for tomorrow’s game.

But there’s also the Canadiens’ trip to California that will change the equation. After all, the Canadiens are heading to the western U.S. and the team is expected to leave on Friday. Struble is likely to be on the plane, regardless of Guhle’s injury, because he needs to be recalled soon.

However, if Guhle is out for a while, a seventh defenseman will be needed on the road. What this means is that we should expect to see, from now on, two defensemen (likely including Struble) being recalled before departing for the United States.

Will Logan Mailloux be the lucky one? Possibly.

Note that in the coming days, as Anthony Marcotte reminded on BPM Sports, Mailloux will theoretically be at the AHL All-Star Game (the festivities will take place on Sunday and Monday) after playing Friday and Saturday in Laval. And the All-Star Game will be held… in California.

Adam Engstrom, William Trudeau, Gustav Lindstrom, and Noel Hoefenmayer are other options for the Canadiens for a call-up. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Mailloux and Struble were the Canadiens’ choices.

But at the same time, the Canadiens could easily recall Lindstrom, who is a right shot.

in brief

– Miro Heiskanen’s injury from Mark Stone is not going unnoticed. Here’s another one we worry about this morning.

– The Islanders are getting better.

– Oh really?

Top-5: A disgusting gesture by Mark Stone towards Miro Heiskanen

The Canadiens not only lost their game against the Jets: they also saw Kaiden Guhle get injured during the match.

And it doesn’t look good for the defenseman…

That said, there were also seven other games played in the NHL last night. Here’s a summary of what happened:

1 : An unsightly act by Mark Stone

Mark Stone is a good hockey player… But he is also capable of being a jerk on the ice.

Miro Heiskanen learned this the hard way last night: Stone hit him sneakily and it was the defenseman’s knee that took the hit.

Like Guhle, we can fear the worst for Heiskanen:

Ouch…

I hope the NHL will penalize Mark Stone for his actions!

The Stars players took care of avenging their teammate’s injury in the game.

In fact, it was Wyatt Johnston who stole the show by scoring a hat trick.

The Stars won 4-3 in overtime:

2 : Connor Bedard scores one of the goals of the year

We know that Connor Bedard has a great shot.

He terrorized goalies in the WHL when he was playing junior and is on his way to doing the same in the NHL.

When you see a shot like that, you realize how much talent he has:

Wow!

The Blackhawks had a big game in Tampa Bay. They managed to beat the Lightning 4-1 with key players contributing to the team’s victory.

Seth Jones notably registered two assists in the game.

For the Lightning, this marks their fourth loss in five games. Things are not going well in Tampa Bay lately…

3 : Thompson and Peterka too strong for the Bruins

Seeing a hat trick in an NHL game happens quite frequently.

But last night in Buffalo, we saw two in the same game!

JJ Peterka and Tage Thompson took care of the Bruins by scoring three goals each:

No need to tell you that the six goals scored by Peterka and Thompson were enough for the Sabres to win the game.

The Buffalo team won the game 7-2: the fans of the team were able to celebrate the victory… But many of them went home without their hats, hehe.

Note that Brad Marchand scored his 18th goal of the season in his team’s loss.

4 : First point for Rantanen with the Hurricanes

Everything worked for the Hurricanes last night at Madison Square Garden.

The big guns from Carolina had fun: Andrei Svechnikov (twice), Sebastian Aho, and Seth Jarvis scored to lead the Hurricanes to defeat the Rangers.

The game ended with a score of 4-0… And Mikko Rantanen scored his first point in Carolina’s uniform:

Svechnikov, Aho, and Jarvis scoring…

Rantanen contributing to the victory…

But in all this, one must not forget Frederik Andersen’s performance.

After all, the goalie was perfect in front of his net, stopping all 22 shots directed at him!

This is his first shutout of the season:

5 : Martin Necas continues to have fun with his new team

Martin Necas recorded two assists in his second game with the Avalanche.

He was shut out in his first game with the Colorado team.

Yesterday, he again contributed to the scoring with two assists against the Islanders.

Necas assisted on a somewhat strange goal by Artturi Lehkonen and he was involved in the goal by his former teammate in Carolina, Jack Drury:

Despite Necas’s brilliance, the Avalanche was never in the game against Patrick Roy’s team.

The Islanders won 5-2, and Alexander Romanov scored his second goal of the season in his team’s victory.

Also note that Tony DeAngelo registered his first point with the Islanders.

The Islanders had a big test, but they managed to secure their fifth consecutive victory!

Overtime

– A goal for Shane Wright.

– Sick.

– It was enough for the Ducks to win (6-4) against the Kraken.

– He’s doing well lately:

– Wow!

– Flames fans gave him a warm welcome.

The daughter of JFK describes RFK Jr. as a “predator”

Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of JFK, did not hold back her words regarding RFK Jr., publishing a letter and a series of videos on social media urging senators not to confirm RFK Jr. as the next Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

RFK Jr.’s cousin claims she feels compelled to break her silence to warn about the dangers that his appointment to this position would pose, calling him a “predator” and adding that he “exploits the despair of parents with sick children.”

Caroline Kennedy labels her cousin a “hypocrite,” claiming that RFK Jr. would have vaccinated all his children while manipulating other parents into not vaccinating theirs. She accuses his conspiracy theories and half-truths about vaccines of costing lives and criticizes his financial gain from his anti-vaccine positions.

Getty Images

Notably, by suing HPV vaccine manufacturers, claiming they are masking health risks, RFK Jr. is increasing both his visibility and financial resources, according to Caroline Kennedy.

His cousin accuses him in this matter of “profiting at the expense of access to a vaccine that can prevent almost all forms of cervical cancer and has been safely administered to millions of boys and girls.”

Last year, RFK Jr. reportedly received over $850,000 through an arrangement with Merck regarding the Gardasil vaccine.

Getty Images

If one thought the strange stories about RFK Jr., such as him allegedly picking up a dead bear cub only to leave it in Central Park as a joke, or transporting a whale carcass on the roof of his car for hours, creating a nightmarish scene with foul odors and “whale juice” with his children onboard, were the most bizarre about him, Caroline Kennedy reveals an even more disturbing one.

She claims her cousin took a disturbing pleasure in showing how he put chicks and baby mice in a blender to feed his hawks, a scene she describes as a “perverse mix of despair and violence.”

Getty Images

Caroline Kennedy states that her father, JFK, and her uncle Bobby, “who gave their lives to public service,” as well as her uncle Teddy, “who dedicated his career in the Senate to improving the healthcare system,” would be disgusted” by RFK Jr.’s actions.

She accuses him of having “exploited the image of his father” during his electoral campaign, only to lower himself to request a position on Donald Trump’s team, all while leveraging the “painful public tragedies of their own family” for publicity.

Jim Acosta forced to leave CNN to please Trump?

One of the key presenters employed by CNN since 2007, Jim Acosta, is leaving the network after being relegated to a much less strategic time slot in the schedule, a decision that some interpret as an effort to ease tensions with the president or respond to alleged demands from the Trump administration towards CNN and the media.

Jim Acosta leaving CNN after being pulled from network’s programming schedule

New York Post (@nypost.com) 2025-01-28T03:33:13.032Z

Jim Acosta is certainly one of the major victims of a significant reorganization at CNN and its programming under the leadership of its CEO, Mark Thompson, in order to, according to company executives, adapt to the changes in the media landscape and strengthen its digital presence.

CaptureCNN

This restructuring has brought significant changes for several iconic figures at CNN, including Wolf Blitzer and Jake Tapper, but for Jim Acosta, it has been perceived as a major setback, as the company has pushed him out of strategic time slots.

Among these major changes in programming, the show The Lead with Jake Tapper, previously aired on weekdays from 4 PM to 6 PM (ET), will be moved from 5 PM to 7 PM (ET) starting in March 2025, as part of this significant reorganization of the network.

The time change for Wolf Blitzer, who previously hosted The Situation Room aired on weekdays from 6 PM to 7 PM (ET), now places him in a new morning slot from 10 AM to 12 PM (ET), where he will co-host with Pamela Brown, thus replacing the time slot previously occupied by Jim Acosta’s show.

CaptureCNN

The show CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta was aired on weekdays from 10 AM to 11 AM (ET). With the announced restructuring, Jim Acosta has been offered a time slot from midnight to 2 AM, a decision that significantly reduces his visibility and represents a heavy blow for the presenter.

Getty Images

Some view this decision by CNN as being related to Donald Trump’s return to the White House, with Jim Acosta being one of the most critical hosts towards the former and current president.

This hypothesis seems even more plausible when recalling the November 2018 incident during a press conference following the midterm elections, where Acosta, then CNN’s White House correspondent, had a heated exchange with Trump, resulting in his temporary ban from the White House.

Getty Images

This raises the question: did Trump exert influence pushing CNN to get rid of Jim Acosta?

Smart take on my interview with Burchett on Jan. 6. We can’t let the truth about that day be destroyed. newrepublic.com/article/1905…

Jim Acosta (@jimacosta.bsky.social) 2025-01-23T11:45:44.071Z

It is worth noting that Jim Acosta joined CNN in 2007 as a national political correspondent. He gained prominence covering Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012.

In 2018, he was named chief White House correspondent, becoming a prominent figure at CNN, particularly due to his often heated exchanges with Trump during his first presidential term. Acosta also reported on major historical moments, such as the 2020 elections and the significant events of January 6, 2021.

His departure will undoubtedly leave a void within CNN, a company that in recent years seems to have lost its bearings and struggles to clearly define its position.

The CH loses the match and the services of Kaiden Guhle

The Montreal Canadiens had quite a challenge on Tuesday night: the Winnipeg Jets.

Before tonight’s games, the Jets were tied for first place in the NHL with the Washington Capitals.

The Canadiens were trying to find their way back to victory, having lost their last two games.

It should be noted that Patrik Laine was facing his former team.

Here’s the lineup that Martin St-Louis presented for this match:

What stood out the most in the lineup were the changes made to the first two defensive pairings.

It was Alexandre Carrier who found himself to the right of Mike Matheson, while Lane Hutson played to the right of Kaiden Guhle.

Having more defensive stability with Carrier alongside Matheson could help him bounce back, as he has been struggling lately.

The Canadiens didn’t intend to take it easy at the start of the game.

Martin St-Louis’ team bombarded Connor Hellebuyck with 15 shots, and it paid off as Juraj Slafkovsky opened the scoring in this duel.

An eighth goal for the Slovak, while Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield picked up assists.

Slafkovsky unleashed a powerful one-timer, and Hellebuyck had no chance.

Interestingly, Slaf has scored his 4th goal in his last seven games, having only four after 40 games.

We’re starting to see the Slaf from the second half of the season.

A few minutes later, Kyle Connor brought everyone back to square one with his 28th of the season.

Connor is always dangerous.

After 20 minutes of play, it was 1-1, and the Canadiens led 15-7 in shots.

The second period was nothing like the first.

First, we had to wait over 12 minutes to see the Canadiens’ first shot on goal.

Just before that first shot, Mark Scheifele put his team ahead, and Gabe Vilardi collected his second assist of the game.

Michael Pezzetta had the best chance of his season to score, but he fanned on an open net after a beautiful pass from Brendan Gallagher.

And finally, Kyle Connor decided to double the Jets’ lead with his 29th goal just before the end of the period.

This time, the Jets were far superior to the Canadiens in this period, with 13 shots compared to only three.

The third period was tighter between the two teams than the first two.

However, Kaiden Guhle fell against the boards, and his right knee was affected.

The young defenseman quickly returned to the locker room and unfortunately did not return to the game.

There was even a moment when we saw Martin St-Louis receive an update on Guhle and his reaction said it all…

The Canadiens had several golden opportunities to close the gap in the third period, but to no avail.

In addition to losing Kaiden Guhle’s services, Montreal also lost the game, marking a third consecutive defeat.

The Canadiens’ next game will take place on Thursday night, as the Minnesota Wild will be visiting the Bell Centre. Marc-André Fleury is expected to face the Montreal club.

Overtime

Arber Xhekaj had a good game, but he especially stood out by delivering many checks. In the game, he recorded no less than eight, and that’s exactly what we want to see from the hulking defenseman.

He’s primarily there to stir the pot by delivering several hits and dropping the gloves when it’s time. He doesn’t drop the gloves as much as he did at the start, but that’s not a bad thing, as he visits the penalty box much less often. We know he can also help the Canadiens on the ice by supporting the offense from time to time.

Requalification: Two Quebecers in the top 13 of Corey Pronman’s ranking

Corey Pronman knows how to get people talking, especially when it comes to ranking the prospects of the Tricolore

However, he surprised quite a few by revealing his mid-season list for the upcoming amateur draft.

We know that Caleb Desnoyers will be chosen quite high in the rankings, but there is also another Quebec player who is increasingly making a name for himself.

Justin Carbonneau is gaining more points with an impressive season totaling 59 points, including 31 goals, in 43 games.

His physical play also gives him strong arguments for being drafted in the top 20.

Pronman has high hopes for both Quebec players.

First, he places Desnoyers at 4th, while Carbonneau is ranked 13th on his list.

I didn’t think Carbonneau could make it into the top-15, but more and more experts are ranking him very well, including Craig Button who places him at 14th.

What’s even more impressive about Pronman’s rankings is seeing two Quebec players ranked so high.

In fact, this would be the first time since 2013 that two players from here are chosen in the top-15.

In 2013, there was Jonathan Drouin (3rd) and Samuel Morin (11th).

If we look at the 2020 draft, there was obviously Alexis Lafrenière, who was selected first overall, but we had to wait until the 22nd pick to see another Quebec player chosen, which was Hendrix Lapierre at that spot.

Quebec players are not as dominant as they were a few decades ago. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any left…

Can’t wait to see what this draft will bring, and especially, who the Habs will select first.

In a Nutshell

– What a save by Frederik Andersen!

– Tage Thompson is very solid. It looked way too easy.

– Cale Makar ran into a wall named Alexander Romanov.

– Now that’s surgical precision.
