The CH receives many calls concerning Jake Evans

Because he is responsible in the three zones of the rink, because he plays center, because he excels in numerical disadvantage, because he is capable of producing offensively and because he is having his best season of his career, Jake Evans is an interesting player right now.

He is for the Canadiens… But also for the other NHL teams, who have until Friday to improve their lineup.

A final push before the series!

But what makes Evans even more interesting is his contract.

At $1.7 million until the end of the season (the agreement ends this summer), Evans has one of the best monetary values in the NHL.

And at that level, it’s logical to see that the Canadiens are receiving a lot of calls about their center player.

This is what Pierre LeBrun reported on Twitter:

In his post, the informant also recalls that the Canadiens may not trade Evans.

If Kent Hughes doesn’t get the price he wants… He won’t be tempted, even if there’s a risk of seeing Evans leave for free on the free agent market in just a few months.

But what’s particularly important to know here is that there’s a lot of interest in the main player right now.

This could cause a kind of bidding war and if that’s the case, maybe the Canadiens will be lucky enough to get more than a 2nd round pick.

Because again, Evans is the perfect rental player for a team that has a lot of money on its payroll and is looking to improve its bottom-6.

His qualities on the ice are really notable (and it’s not new)… And his contract makes him an attractive player for any NHL team.

In rafale

– Wow!

– He’s in shape, apparently.

– He mustn’t!

Matthew Tkachuk on LTIR: Panthers follow the example of the Lightning and Golden Knights

Do you remember when Nikita Kucherov – who was supposedly injured – miraculously returned to the game during the 2021 playoffs after missing the entire season?

He had helped the Lightning win a second consecutive Stanley Cup with a harvest of 32 points in just 23 games.

Otherwise, we just have to remember the Golden Knights and their way of doing things with Mark Stone. It’s been two years that the team’s captain has been returning for the playoffs after missing a good part of the season…

Of course, we have to remind ourselves that in the playoffs, the salary cap doesn’t count.

For example, by placing Stone on the LTIR last season, the Golden Knights were able to free up his salary to go get Tomas Hertl in Vegas. Stone then returned for the playoffs without a problem because his salary no longer counted at that point.

Some see this as cheating… Even if there’s nothing technically illegal about it.

But with the next playoffs in sight, it seems that the Panthers are the next to adopt this strategy.

This is what we can believe, at least, seeing Matthew Tkachuk being placed on the LTIR…

This means that the Panthers currently have a cap space of $8.7 million.

acquisition of Seth Jones yesterday…

This is a lot of money.

And it will probably allow the Panthers to be even more aggressive before Friday (the NHL trade deadline) to improve their lineup for the playoffs.

The Panthers now have the space needed to improve, at least. Which wouldn’t have been possible without placing Tkachuk on the LTIR…

Of course, all teams have the right to take this path.

But we also know that it’s not unanimous throughout the league, and at some point, it will be interesting to see if the NHL will decide to change its rules to remedy the situation.

Because at some point, it becomes redundant year after year…

Extension

On paper, the Panthers already have a good team.

That being said, with the available money under the salary cap, the team has room to improve their bottom-6 – which is not the most talented in the NHL.

I don’t know, but it seems to me that Jake Evans and Joel Armia would fit well into this lineup…

A point for Demidov, who was the 3rd most used player of his club today

It was necessary to keep an eye on Ivan Demidov in his game of the day.

After all, in the last game of his team… The hope of the CH was benched by his coach.

But Roman Rotenberg – who is difficult to follow – decided to please his player today.

After spending a total of 0 minutes and 0 seconds on the ice in the last SKA game, Demidov was the 3rd most used player of his club today.

And even if the SKA lost with a score of 2-1, the hope of the CH managed to stand out by scoring an assist.

He finished the game with a playing time of 21:34, four shots on goal, and two blocked shots:

(Credit: KHL)

And his pass was beautiful, too:

Because when you’re on the bench… Let’s just say it’s a bit harder, haha.

Overall, Demidov sent a perfect message to his coach: he was involved in all aspects of the game today, he blocked shots, he played well… And he even managed to score a point.

Rotenberg even decided to put him on the ice at the end of the game when the SKA needed a goal to tie the score.

It should be like that… But every game:

Note that the point scored by the Canadiens’ prospect means he now has 48 points this season (in 59 games).

For a guy who averages 13:42 of playing time per game since the start of the season, that’s worth noting.

Especially since he is one of the best scorers in the league at just 19 years old:

In a rush

– Bravo!

– Hum…

– Happy birthday!

Mikko Rantanen and Jake Evans: the Kings are “all-in”

Tic, tac, tic, tac…

Time is passing very quickly, as we are now only five days away from the trade deadline, which will take place this Friday, March 7th at 3:00 PM.

Rumors are intensifying more and more, and this is happening in all corners of the National Hockey League.

While we wonder what the status of the Montreal Canadiens will be by the trade deadline, several teams continue to show interest in Jake Evans, despite the recent successes of the Canadiens.

Even though the Canadiens are back in the playoffs, Jake Evans remains a highly sought-after player, with several teams interested in him.

One of these teams is reportedly the Los Angeles Kings, the team where the former Canadiens general manager, Marc Bergevin, now works.

In fact, according to a report by RG Media, the Los Angeles Kings are being very aggressive, as they want to improve their team.

In short, they are “all-in”, and Mikko Rantanen is also on their radar.

In fact, as we can read in the article above, the Los Angeles Kings are closely monitoring the situation of Mikko Rantanen in Carolina, and they are really ready to go get him before 3:00 PM on March 7th.

Of course, seeing Rantanen leave Carolina after only a few weeks is still very unlikely, but it is still a possibility, and the Kings are exploring it seriously.

What’s interesting is that the Kings have elements that would interest the Hurricanes in a potential trade.

There is a world where Rantanen could leave for Los Angeles and potentially sign with the Kings.

In short, L.A. is really all-in and wants to improve by March 7th, and especially avoid losing in the first round again.

This is the third year in a row that the Kings have been beaten in the first round by the Edmonton Oilers, and this season, everything is aligned for the two teams to meet again in the first round.

Adding Rantanen and perhaps even Evans would clearly help the Kings.

Even though they are well-stocked at center, the Kings are interested in Evans and are looking at his services.

Of course, this is a good thing for Kent Hughes, as the more teams that are interested, the more he can drive up the price, especially if the Canadiens don’t absolutely want to trade Evans.

Everything remains to be seen.

In a Flash

– Beautiful words from the coach about his captain.

– Reilly Smith will not play tonight due to trade deadline reasons.

– Very interesting fact. Let’s see what the Canadiens will do now.

– Wow.

Victory of the Rocket: a first point for David Reinbacher this season

The start of the season has been very difficult for Montreal Canadien fans, as they had to settle for a seriously injured David Reinbacher who was not playing, while Will Smith, Matvei Michkov, and Zach Benson were performing at the highest level, namely in the National Hockey League.

For a fifth overall pick, the expectations are very high, and therefore, seeing players drafted just before or just after Reinbacher already playing in the NHL and performing, it was worrying about the choice that the CH had made.

Luckily, the Austrian defender recovered from his injury faster than expected, and he has been back in action for a few weeks, playing his first games of the season with the Laval Rocket.

Moreover, last night, as he played his 4th game of the season, Reinbacher scored his first point of the season.

In fact, Rocket’s number 64 served a clever pass to his captain, Lucas Condotta, on the power play.

Here is the sequence.

This is a well-deserved first point for Reinbacher, as he has been playing very good hockey since joining the Laval Rocket.

He is improving with each of his games, and he is already becoming a cornerstone of the Rocket’s defense.

The pair he forms with Adam Engstrom is really solid, and it allows Laval to lead the game almost every time they are on the ice.

In short, Reinbacher played another good game in addition to scoring his first point of the season, and this was in a 4-1 victory for the Rocket against the Belleville Senators.

It’s worth noting that Sean Farrell, who has been at the top of the American League for 10 games, got an assist and therefore extended his streak to five games with at least one point.

This is a great victory for the Rocket, which now finds itself three points behind the top of its division and the top of the AHL, with also two games in hand over the Rochester Americans.

(Credit: TheAHL.com)

In short, things are going well for the Rocket, and let’s hope it goes as far as possible in the playoffs, which would allow Reinbacher to play as many games as possible.

In a Flash

– What a moment.

– Worth noting.

– A situation that remains to be followed.

– Quite bizarre.

– For those interested.

11 forwards with ten goals or more: a first for the CH in 36 years

With their 4-2 win over the Sabres in Buffalo last night, the Montreal Canadiens managed to stick to their fourth consecutive win for the first time this season.

The CH was not perfect, but they gave themselves the means to go get two big points in the standings, being fierce and intense for 60 minutes.

Seriously, we would have really believed we were watching a playoff game, when it was just a game against the poor Sabres of Buffalo, last in the Atlantic division and last in the Eastern conference.

In short, the Tricolore has been in playoff mode since the resumption of activities after the Four Nations Confrontation, and let’s say they chose their moment well.

This current sequence of four consecutive wins allows the CH to cling to the hope of making the playoffs and enables them to stay in the race, just three points from the last playoff spot.

(Credit: NHL.com)

Seriously, this beautiful playoff run combined with the CH’s winning streak is making us forget our good old friend Tankathon, as the CH slips into their chances of getting the best possible pick.

(Credit: Tankathon.com)

For some, it may be bad news to move away from the top 5 of the next draft, but honestly, I prefer to see the team progress and gain experience with this beautiful playoff run.

The young players are getting more experience with this experience than slumping in the NHL basement.

It’s really great to see, especially as we approach the March 7 trade deadline, which puts Kent Hughes in a delicate position.

He will have to decide whether to sell some of his players or keep the team intact to allow them to fight until the end for the playoffs.

And let’s say the players are really making it easy for the GM to opt for the second option.

In fact, everyone is helping the team perform, and this is on a regular basis since the start of the season, as evidenced by the 11 different goal scorers with 10 goals or more on the CH.

It’s also a first in 36 years, since the 1988-1989 season.

This is no small feat, and it’s a very beautiful achievement, especially considering it’s a peak this season in the NHL, while the Hurricanes are in second place with 10 goal scorers with 10 goals or more.

Here are the 11 CH players with at least 10 goals.

  • Cole Caufield: 29 goals
  • Nick Suzuki: 18 goals
  • Brendan Gallagher: 15 goals
  • Patrik Laine: 14 goals
  • Jake Evans: 12 goals
  • Alex Newhook: 12 goals
  • Emil Heineman: 10 goals
  • Juraj Slafkovsky: 10 goals
  • Joel Armia: 10 goals
  • Kirby Dach: 10 goals
  • Josh Anderson: 10 goals

We notice that these are 11 forwards, and that at this level, it’s also a feat in the history of the Canadiens, especially after 60 games.

In short, everyone is contributing to the Tricolore’s attack, and this is quite consistent.

As for the rest of the game itself, here’s what I take away from it.

1. Lane Hutson was excellent again, demonstrating his talent on different sequences, especially with his two assists.

This gives him 46 points, which is good for second place in CH history among rookie defensemen, with only Chris Chelios’ 64 points ahead of him.

2. Josh Anderson was rewarded.

Seriously, with all that Anderson has been through lately in terms of injuries, it was a well-deserved goal for him last night.

3. Jayden Struble was excellent.

The CH’s number 47 has been playing very good hockey since the break, and he’s following Lane Hutson’s rhythm very well.

Struble’s physical play is excellent, and he’s helping the CH a lot, especially in the current playoff context.

4. Juraj Slafkovsky may not have had any points, but he played another strong game.

His five hits represented a peak for the CH last night, and he stood out with each of his appearances, as he came close to scoring several times.

5. Was this Jake Evans’ last goal in Montreal?

With all the rumors surrounding him, it’s possible that Evans’ goal may be his last in Montreal.

He is one goal and one point away from tying his personal best of 13 goals and 29 points.

The Canadiens are off today and will resume action tomorrow in their second game in a row against the Buffalo Sabres, this time at the Bell Centre starting at 7 pm.

In a Hurry

– A historic win for the Victory at the Bell Centre!

– To read.

– Félix Auger-Aliassime is really having an excellent start to 2025.

– To note.

– To follow.

Top-5 : Ilya Sorokin credited with a goal thanks to Steven Stamkos

It was a very big hockey day yesterday in the National Hockey League, as we had the last big Saturday of hockey before the March 7 trade deadline,

And through the trades of Ryan Lindgren, Gustav Nyquist, and Seth Jones, we had some very nice highlights.

Here’s a summary of them.

1. Ilya Sorokin gets a goal thanks to Steven Stamkos

The game between the New York Islanders and the Nashville Predators gave us one of the most unusual goals in history yesterday.

In fact, as the Islanders were leading 6-4 at the end of the third period, the Preds pulled their goalie to try to close the gap.

The Preds were shooting from everywhere, and Ilya Sorokin made several great saves, including one that ended up on Steven Stamkos’ stick.

And that’s when he made a mistake, as he tried to pass the puck to his defenseman, he sent it into his own empty net.

The goal was therefore credited to Ilya Sorokin since he was the last to touch the puck on the Islanders’ side.

In short, a very funny moment that allowed the Islanders to go get a big 7-4 win over the Preds.

Sorokin even took the opportunity to tease his good friend Igor Shesterkin, the Rangers’ goalie, saying he knew he would score a goal before him.

2. A referee controversy ruins the end of the Stadium Series game

It was yesterday that the outdoor game took place in Columbus, as the Red Wings visited the Blue Jackets.

Early in the season, this game wasn’t exciting anyone, as it was expected to be an unimportant game between two non-playoff teams, but the two teams made it very important since they currently occupy the two wild-card spots in the East.

So it was a four-point game outdoors for both teams, which we had a very close game.

Unfortunately, it all ended in controversy, as Justin Danforth scored the winning goal for the Blue Jackets after clearly hitting Simon Edvinsson in the face with his stick.

We can clearly see that Danforth gets away after hitting Edvinsson, but it wasn’t called by the referees.

It’s a shame, and it’s frustrating for the Red Wings and their fans, but in the end, this 5-3 win for the Blue Jackets is good for the Montreal Canadiens.

The Canadiens moved within three points of the Red Wings and a playoff spot with their win last night.

3. A hamburger thrown on the ice during Andrew Hammond’s night in Ottawa

Do you remember the “Hamburglar”?

It’s the nickname that was given to Andrew Hammond, the Ottawa Senators’ goalie who carried the team to the playoffs in 2015 with 20 wins in 24 games after his recall from the American Hockey League.

Well, yesterday night, he was honored in Ottawa, as he was invited to drop the puck for a face-off.

And on the occasion, a Senators fan threw a famous hamburger on the ice, and Hammond picked it up.

In short, a beautiful moment that reminds us of a whole story from ten years ago.

As for the game itself, the Senators ended their five-game losing streak with a 5-3 win.

And during the game, Tim Stützle again embarrassed hockey by renewing his title as the best diver in the NHL by diving without being hooked.

Really pathetic…

4. Connor McDavid reaches 700 assists

The captain of the Edmonton Oilers already has his name all over the NHL history books, and he added to it yesterday night by becoming the 3rd fastest player to reach the 700 assist milestone.

He achieved the feat in 699 games, with only Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux being faster.

It’s crazy to think that even if we removed all of McDavid’s goals, he would still be a point-per-game player.

In short, it’s quite an achievement by McDavid in the Oilers’ 3-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

He’s really sensational, and he showed it again last night, including once against Jacob Slavin.

5. Matvei Michkov’s shootout goal

The Philadelphia Flyers won a big game last night, as they beat the powerful Winnipeg Jets 2-1 in a shootout.

These are two huge points for the Flyers, as they remain in the playoff hunt.

And let’s say they can thank Matvei Michkov, who scored the winning goal in a brilliant way in the shootout.

First sequence of four wins for the CH this season

After a win against the Sharks on Thursday, the Canadiens were back in action tonight in Buffalo.

Montreal wanted to win a fourth straight game for the first time this season.

Here are the lineups for the occasion:

No goals were scored in the first period.

In the second, the goals started to be scored.

First, Cole Caufield scored his 29th goal of the season. This is a personal record for him.

Another point for Patrik Laine on the sequence, who has been playing well since the return from the all-star break.

In his last four games, he has six points.

However, the Sabres replied twice to that goal.

First, Alex Tuch created the equalizer.

Then, Jiri Kulich gave the first lead to his team in the game.

In turn, Montreal scored two goals.

First, Josh Anderson brought everyone back to square one.

Andy has become the 11th player on the CH to score 10 goals this season. Montreal is the club with the most scorers with at least 10 goals this season.

Before the end of the period, Alex Newhook, with less than three seconds left, gave the visitors the lead again.

3-2 after 40 minutes of play.

The Sabres played much better in the third period, but they never had any real chances to thwart Jakub Dobes.

Jake Evans sealed the outcome of the meeting in an empty net. He is one goal and one point away from tying his career highs in both categories.

Final score: 4-2 Canadiens, who win a fourth straight game for the first time this season.

And with this victory, Montreal finally gains ground on the last playoff spot, now just three points away.

Martin St-Louis’ team will face the Sabres again on Monday, this time at the Bell Centre.

Overtime

— Too bad for Connor Hughes, but the Rocket still wins.

— He didn’t let himself get intimidated.

— Will he be traded?

— Well said, Félix.

— Christian Dvorak gained some value: he played a whole game.

— Yes.

Contract extension: Mikko Rantanen should not make a decision before Friday

The Carolina Hurricanes may be in a playoff position and could make a good run in the series, but the team could still be a seller at the trade deadline.

Why? Because there’s a certain Mikko Rantanen who isn’t unanimous in Carolina. With the Canes, the Finn has only five points in nine games. We saw him against the Canadiens at the Bell Center: he seems uninterested in the game.

And now Elliotte Friedman has brought some information that will complicate the file even more. According to the informant, the forward shouldn’t make any decision about his future before the trade deadline (Friday, March 7).

So, the Hurricanes’ GM is facing a big dilemma: trade Rantanen or keep him, try to win the Stanley Cup and/or sign him, and potentially lose him for nothing.

Because if he doesn’t sign before Friday, Carolina could lose him for nothing on July 1st. Let’s say that wouldn’t be ideal…

Eric Tulsky paid Martin Necas, Jack Drury, and two draft picks for the Finn’s services (and Taylor Hall)… That’s a lot, and it wouldn’t be worth it for just twenty games from the player.

Of course, if Carolina wins the Stanley Cup, it would be worth it, but for now, we’re far from that possibility…

Meanwhile, Necas has 13 points in 12 games with Nathan MacKinnon and the Avalanche. Drury, on the other hand, has more goals than Rantanen.

In a hurry

– The Blue Jackets win the away game.

– Nice.

– Why am I not surprised?

Contract extension for Jake Evans: Renaud Lavoie still believes in it

The Canadian will not have managed to agree with Jake Evans this week. Does this mean he’s leaving?

It remains to be seen.

The one who has only one goal in his last 23 games has not been contributing offensively lately, but defensively, I have nothing to say. As the days go by, the chances of him leaving the city are increasing. However, Renaud Lavoie still believes in a contract extension. This is what he mentioned during the pre-game show on TVA Sports.

In recent days, Tony Marinaro provided details on Evans’ demands and according to him, the center is asking for five years/four million dollars per season. Looking at the comparisons across the NHL (Jean-Gabriel Pageau $5M, Alex Kerfoot $3.5M, and Dakota Joshua $3.25M), it feels like four million is not necessarily too much to ask for.

But in the latest news, the two camps are very far from an agreement.

Maybe the negotiations will be more intense after the trade deadline (March 7). Kent Hughes may just be waiting to see what other teams could offer for his fourth-line player.

Still during the pre-game show on TVA Sports, Maxim Lapierre brought up a good point about Evans. The former CH player, who wants to keep him, said that all teams want a player like the 71 in their team. So, why not keep him and not look for another one for four or five years?

The entire panel of the show wants to keep Evans in the city. The entire panel, except for Félix Séguin, who, after his argument, mentioned that he would focus on describing the game, because “that’s what he does best”.

Will you give Jake what he wants, considering that the salary cap will increase by several million dollars in the coming years?

In a nutshell

– It’s nice to see.

– What do you think of the transaction?

– Still.

– Good news.

– Great.
