Top-3 : Jake Allen decides himself to leave the game after giving 5 goals

Three games were presented in the NHL on Wednesday evening.

It was a quiet evening.

Let’s see what caught our attention:

1 : Jake Allen gives up

The Devils were visiting Colorado and Jake Allen was tasked with stopping the Avalanche’s big guns.

It didn’t go well for the former Canadiens player.

Artturi Lehkonen opened the scoring in the first period:

Nathan MacKinnon really put on a show in the game.

The player finished the game with two goals and an assist, which allowed him to be the first player in the NHL to reach the 90-point plateau this season.

He’s good at hockey, MacKinnon (hehe):

At one point, with the Avalanche leading 4-1, Jake Allen conceded another goal.

And he decided that was enough.

He left the ice with 1:42 remaining in the third period, and it was clear he was not satisfied with the effort of his teammates:

But the damage was already done. The Avalanche won 5-1, and in the win, we must also mention Martin Necas’ performance (three assists).

He’s having fun in Colorado, unlike Rantanen in Carolina…

2 : The Jets are too strong for the Sens

The Sens had a big test on the menu last night.

The powerful Jets were in town… And we know how hard they are to beat.

There was excitement at the start of the game, too:

But it was the Jets who benefited the most.

The Winnipeg team didn’t hold back: they scored three goals in a row between the first and second periods.

At 3-0 for the Jets… It was already very difficult for the Sens to come back:

Thomas Chabot hadn’t said his last word, however.

The Senators’ defenseman foiled Connor Hellebuyck with a perfect shot to reduce the deficit to two small goals:

But in the end, the Sens were not able to complete their comeback.

The Ottawa team lost 4-1. Mark Scheifele scored into an empty net.

Note that this is the Jets’ 11th straight win (!) while the Sens have lost five consecutive games.

3 : Big win for the Canucks

We’re heading into the third period of the game between the Canucks and the Kings.

The score is 2-0 in favor of Vancouver.

That’s when the Kings woke up, however.

Adrian Kempe scored one of the beauties of the evening with a shot as precise as it was powerful:

And with a few minutes left in the game, Warren Foegele stood up.

He tied the game to force overtime:

The Kings tried everything to get back into the game and close the books… But they were unable to do so.

It was Connor Garland who secured the win for his team with his second goal of the game.

Important win for the Canucks by a score of 3-2:

Overtime

– They have a beautiful complicity.

– Beautiful goal.

Coins of rumors: Mattias Maccelli linked to CH by NHL Trade Rumors

With the NHL trade deadline approaching, trade rumors are intensifying.

In Montreal, Jake Evans and Joel Armia are the most likely to change addresses by March 7th.

Christian Dvorak is another player whose future is uncertain.

Meanwhile, a recent rumor has linked a young player from the Utah HC to the Canadiens.

Here’s what’s happening around the NHL as the trade deadline approaches.

Mattias Maccelli linked to the Tricolore

Mattias Maccelli is 24 years old and has had two very good initial seasons to start his career.

In his rookie season (more than 25 games played), Maccelli collected 49 points in 64 games. And last season, he amassed no less than 57 points, including 17 goals.

This season, it’s more difficult for the Finn (18 points in 52 games) and the trade rumors surrounding him are only growing.

On this subject, the NHL Trade Rumors website wrote an article on three potential destinations for the left-winger.

The Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, and Canadiens were the three logical teams.

It makes total sense, since we know that the Tricolore likes to go after players in their twenties with an interesting upside.

Alex Newhook, Kirby Dach, and Patrik Laine, to name a few. With his disappointing season, it would be the perfect time for the CH to try to improve their top-6.

Jordan Binnington to the Oilers: an idea not to be ruled out for Edmonton

This is not new, the goaltending situation with the Oilers has been lacking for too long.

Stuart Skinner seemed to be the solution to these woes, but he is taking his time to establish himself as a top goaltender consistently.

In their last four games, the Oilers have given up no less than 22 goals.

It’s time for a change in front of the net.

On this subject, Nick Kypreos linked Jordan Binnington to the Oilers, and there is no more logical destination for Edmonton.

He is an experienced goaltender who has won the Stanley Cup (as well as a gold medal at the 4 Nations Tournament) and would certainly bring stability in front of the net for the Oilers.

Stan Bowman must call the St. Louis Blues about the services of the 31-year-old Canadian goaltender and do everything (

The phone hasn’t rung much for Rasmus Ristolainen

This is not new, defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen has been part of several rumors.

The Philadelphia Flyers were trying to see what they could get for the 30-year-old right-handed defenseman, but the phone doesn’t seem to be ringing.

This is according to The Fourth Period.

Risto could definitely help a team in the playoffs.

He is an extremely physical defenseman who generously distributes hits and brings defensive stability.

We all know: in the playoffs, it’s a big melee and a guy like Ristolainen can only be useful in a depth role.

It all depends on the price demanded by the Flyers, since he has a contract worth $5.1 million per year, valid until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Quinton Byfield is finally not on the market

Los Angeles Kings’ big man Quinton Byfield has often been the subject of rumors for various reasons.

He has often been injured, and that has hindered his development.

Last year, he had a very good first full season in the NHL (55 points in 80 games) and that earned him a 5-year contract worth $6.25 million per season.

This year, Byfield is playing very good hockey with 33 points in 55 games, but he brings more than just points to his team.

Recently, there were rumors that he would be on the market in Los Angeles, but Cam Robinson looked into it and the unanimous verdict is that the 6’5″ forward is not on the market.

I found it surprising that the Kings would put him on the market, since he just signed a 5-year contract and doesn’t seem to be causing any problems.

Now that Cam Robinson has denied this rumor, we can say that the 22-year-old will not change addresses (for now).

In a nutshell

– An 11th consecutive win for the Jets.

– Doughty has only played eight games this season and will have to miss tonight’s game…

– That’s good!

– Already a 24th goal for Lehkonen.

The Habs have the easiest schedule in the NHL from now until the end of the season

Everyone knows, the race for the playoffs in the Atlantic division is extremely tight.

Despite their two consecutive wins, the Montreal Canadiens have only won three games in their last 11, making it harder to make the playoffs.

However, the rest of the season is all in favor of the Canadiens.

In fact, the Canadiens have the easiest schedule for the rest of the campaign, according to the website Tankathon.

Among the tougher opponents, the Canadiens will face:

  • The Leafs once
  • The Oilers once
  • The Panthers three times
  • The Hurricanes twice
  • The Avalanche once

Against the weaker teams, the Canadiens still have games against:

  • The Sharks (once)
  • The Hawks (once)
  • The Preds (once)
  • The Kraken (once)
  • The Sabres (twice)
  • The Flyers (twice)

It’s interesting:

(Credit: Tankathon)

Facing the Panthers three times is clearly not easy, but let’s remember that the Canadiens won their only game against the Florida team this season with a score of 4-0.

It’s also important to mention that the Canadiens have had a lot of success this year against the last champion teams (Avalanche, Lightning, Panthers).

As for the Oilers, things are not going well for them, having conceded no less than 22 goals in their last four games.

And we saw how Martin St-Louis’ team easily beat the Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

The Canadiens’ next game will be played at the Bell Center on Thursday, with the struggling San Jose Sharks visiting.

It will also be the famous matchup between the rookies (Lane Hutson and Macklin Celebrini).

In short, the Canadiens will have to take advantage of their easier schedule than the other 31 teams in the NHL.

It will start tomorrow night against the Sharks and the fans will still be treated to the Hutson-Celebrini matchup. We’ll see which of the two rookies will stand out more.

In rafale

– Slafkovsky seems to be understanding his role more and more, and that’s a good thing.

– To read.

– The decision to send him back to Europe was undoubtedly the best decision.

– Already the 50th episode of the Passion MLB podcast:

– This dunk will definitely be a candidate for dunk of the year.

Vlasic complains (again) about his playing time: “We should ask the coach”

Marc-Édouard Vlasic doesn’t play as much as he used to.

He only played 57 games last season because he was left out several times.

The veteran missed the start of the 24-25 season due to a back injury… But even though he’s been healthy for a while, he doesn’t play every night.

The Quebecer has been healthy since January 1, but he has only participated in eight games since his return to play.

And that’s not okay with him.

Asked about his use during the Sharks’ visit to Montreal (they will be at the Bell Center tomorrow night), Vlasic replied that only his coach had the answer.

When I played the seven games I played, I played well. Obviously, we’re in rebuilding and I understand the decision… But you’d have to ask the coach. – Marc-Édouard Vlasic

It can be felt in his tone of voice that he’s not super happy:

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by 5a7RDS (@5a7rds)

At the beginning of February, Vlasic said on the JiC show (TVA Sports) that the Sharks are not good this year.

I wonder if that really played a role in Ryan Warsofsky’s recent decisions…

But on the ice, we’re talking about a guy who has slowed down considerably.

Vlasic – who is 37 years old – is no longer producing offensively and is no longer helping his team defensively. It’s sad in a way because the Sharks are stuck with his $7 million per year contract, which ends in the summer of 2026…

Let’s recall that this is not the first time we’ve seen Vlasic complain about his use in the media.

He was happy with David Quinn’s departure last summer because, according to him, he was left out during the last season when he didn’t deserve it.

But at some point, the player’s problems are with his performance. Because there is no NHL team that would deprive itself of using a defenseman who can help on the ice… And that’s the irony in the story.

In a nutshell

– Good point.

– We love hockey in Canada!

– An ordinary result (enough) for Lance Stroll…

Renaud Lavoie is “extremely” comfortable with the talent bank within the CH

The Canadians have good players within the organization.

And there are hopes that are coming, too.

This allows us to believe that the future is bright in Montreal… Even if today, the club is still in the process of rebuilding.

The next draft will be important because it may be Kent Hughes’ last chance to have an excellent pick.

He will probably have the chance to get his hands on another talented player… And that should help.

Already now – in the eyes of Renaud Lavoie -, the Canadians already have enough talent with the guys who are in place.

Let’s add the fact that Ivan Demidov is coming… And that leads the journalist to think that the CH is on the right track:

You’ve drafted Demidov. It’s going to be a game changer. This guy is going to completely change the organization… all by himself. – Renaud Lavoie

Renaud Lavoie talked about it this morning on the airwaves of BPM Sports :

It’s certain that looking at the overall standings of the NHL, some will say that the CH needs a lot more talent before moving on to the next level.

Fair enough.

But exactly, what some people often forget is that the young players drafted by the Canadians since the beginning of the rebuild are not there yet (except Slaf).

David Reinbacher (5th overall pick) has really interesting potential…

Ivan Demidov (5th overall pick) seems to have the talent to become a star in the NHL…

Michael Hage (21st overall pick) has qualities that could allow him to become a good player in Montreal…

Let’s not forget Joshua Roy, Logan Mailloux, and Owen Beck, who will play in the big league soon…

Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Juraj Slafkovsky are already good…

And there’s also Jacob Fowler in all this, who is dominating the NCAA since his arrival at the university level.

But at the very least, by adding another talented player to the organization (whether through the draft or through a transaction), the Canadians will continue to equip themselves to compete in the coming years.

It all depends on the respective development of the prospects and the progress of the players in place… but if everything goes well, the CH will be able to compete with the best teams in the league.

We’ve seen the team be excellent for a month this season, after all.

And with all the young players coming, it gave a really interesting glimpse of what’s to come in the next few years.

In rafale

– Well done.

– Adam Fox is injured.

– The photo is sick.

– Strange contract!

Savard’s value: “The idea of a team giving up a 3rd round pick seems exaggerated”

We don’t know if Kent Hughes will trade David Savard.

The Canadiens’ GM won’t give him away for free… But there’s also a world where he keeps his veteran if he doesn’t get the offer he wants to let him go.

And with just a few days left until the trade deadline, Eric Engels is giving an indication of the value of the main person involved.

In a recent article (Sportsnet), Engels recalls that Savard had two big games in the last few days against the Senators and Hurricanes.

And he’s right because the Quebecer did what he does best: he was solid in his zone without making too much noise and blocked four shots.

That’s what we ask of him.

But even if Savard plays better and the market for right-handed defensemen seems thin, Engels argues that the defender’s value is not super high right now.

This sentence is particularly revealing:

The idea of seeing a club give up a third-round pick seems exaggerated. But a few more performances like the one on Tuesday could convince teams that the six-foot-one, 235-pound Stanley Cup winner might be worth it. – Eric Engels

Uh…

As long as we’re getting a fourth-round pick for David Savard… I’d rather keep him in town, even with the risk of seeing him leave for free this summer.

Because in Montreal, Savard does more than just help the Canadiens: he plays a role in the development of young defensemen because he has the experience to do so.

He’s the one who helped Arber Xhekaj navigate his first seasons in the NHL and he plays that role with other (younger) players too.

Losing a guy like him for a fourth-round pick isn’t worth it.

Savard has more value in Montreal for the reasons we know, and if he’s able to help until the end of the season in his role, we should take advantage of it.

It would be useless to give a player like him away at such a low price.

In passing

– Well done.

– Sad news.

– Ouch!

– It takes willpower.

Acquiring Seth Jones for 6 million dollars per season for the Canadiens: “I do it right away”

Seth Jones is tired of losing.

He notably called out his teammates last night after his club’s defeat because he is disgusted by the team’s poor play and inability to improve.

The defender and the Hawks are discussing a trade to allow him to go win elsewhere.

But we all know what the problem is with Seth Jones in terms of a possible trade: his contract.

At $9.5 million per year, it’s expensive for a defender who has averaged 40 points in his last three seasons… and the fact that his contract ends in the summer of 2030 (!) doesn’t help either.

The Hawks will likely have to retain some of his salary in order to trade him, to put it another way.

And for what it’s worth, Georges Laraque and Stéphane Gonzalez (BPM Sports) have discussed the idea of going to get him in Chicago.

The former Canadiens player would like to make a trade of this kind… if the Hawks retain a third of Jones’ salary.

With Jones at $6 million per season, he would even be willing to give up the Flames’ first-round pick to bring him to town:

I’d do it right away. 100 miles per hour. – Georges Laraque

Georges Laraque defends his point by saying that Jones shoots right, that he is capable of scoring points and that he is solid.

He would like to see what Jones could do if he were well-surrounded in a team with talented players like the one in Montreal.

Because in Chicago, aside from Connor Bedard, it’s pretty thin…

Again, what bothers me about the idea is Jones’ contract (even if it’s $6 million per season). He’s 30 years old and has already started showing signs of slowing down…

The Canadiens won’t be able to afford having a large negative contract on their books when they try to win the Stanley Cup. And Jones’ contract could quickly become a burden for the Canadiens, even if the salary cap goes up in the coming years…

But if we look at the other side of the coin, it could allow the Canadiens to take their time with David Reinbacher.

It would allow Kent Hughes to trade Logan Mailloux this summer to go get a top-6 pick, and it would also add experience to a blue line that’s not very old. Maybe it would also encourage the Canadiens’ GM to trade David Savard…

On paper, the idea makes sense when we look at the positive aspects that come from it. But at the same time, it doesn’t fit with the plan of Kent Hughes and the organization.

I don’t see the Canadiens’ GM trading for a guy in his thirties who’s not the defender he used to be and who still has five years left on his contract after this season…

In a hurry

— Nice contest:

— He’s one of the most underrated players in the NHL.

— Whoa.

— The idea is logical.

— Reminder: the latest episode of Stanley25 is online.

The Lightning are already giving up and trading Jesse Ylönen

Jesse Ylönen never lived up to expectations in Montreal.

He was drafted in the 2nd round (35th overall) by the Canadiens in 2018, but he left the organization last summer after playing 111 games in the CH uniform.

The forward signed a one-year contract ($775,000) with the Lightning on July 1.

But as was the case in Montreal, the Ylönen experience didn’t work out in Tampa Bay.

In fact, he wasn’t even able to play a single game with the Lightning… who eventually decided to send him to Nashville in a trade with the Preds.

In return, the Lightning gets its hands on an American League player, Anthony Angello:

After Justin Barron, Barry Trotz is once again choosing to go after a player who played for the Canadiens.

We should call them the Montreal Predators!

No joke, the Lightning wasn’t as patient with Ylönen as the CH was, and that indicates one thing: the player really seems to be at a crossroads right now.

He collected only 25 points in 47 games this season in the American League, and for a “strictly offensive” player, we can agree that it’s not ideal.

But that’s Jesse Ylönen: he can help you out when you need offense… But you can’t rely on him in any situation in the world.

And that’s what makes it so that today, at the age of 25, Ylönen is still having a lot of trouble establishing himself as a regular player in the National League.

At this point in his career, we can believe that it will never happen…

In passing

– Oh!

– It worked, the 4 Nations.

– Excellent news for the Leafs.

– They will face off tomorrow.

– I like it.

– Matt Nieto on waivers.

4 nations : Brady Tkachuk accuses the Canucks of having kept Quinn Hughes because he is American

If I were to start a hockey club, I would take the Tkachuk brothers on my team. They are good hockey players who have what it takes to bring a team to the next level.

Their impact at the Four Nations Confrontation was notable.

However, the two brothers have big mouths and this often gets them into trouble, as they can alienate people for no reason. And now, we’ve just had an example that will anger many Canadians.

For example?

While appearing on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, Brady discussed the situation surrounding Quinn Hughes’ presence, or rather absence, in the tournament final against the Canadian team.

What did he say?

He said that while everyone was wondering if Hughes would be there for the final, the player himself wanted to be present. But according to Brady, the Canucks didn’t give him the green light.

It’s shady business on the part of the Canucks. We know who they were taking care of… – Brady Tkachuk

Alright. Maybe Tkachuk knows something. But maybe he also doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

We need to remember that Mike Sullivan had announced Hughes’ arrival, but because the US didn’t need a defenseman to fill their jerseys, Hughes didn’t get the okay.

Maybe there was some shady business… but maybe the rules are just the rules.

We should also mention that Hughes still hasn’t returned to playing in the NHL because he’s injured. The Canucks put a wrench in the American team’s plans by refusing to send them an injured player: that’s what Tkachuk is saying.

Let’s just say it doesn’t look very good, based on what we know publicly.

Tkachuk may have let his emotions get the better of him, and these statements won’t earn him or his brother any respect from the great Yvan Cournoyer.

In an interview with Marc de Foy, the legendary Canadiens player said that the Tkachuk brothers’ behavior is not worthy of an international match. He hopes the two brothers will “go to hell” after what they did.

Accusing the Canucks won’t make Mr. Cournoyer more sympathetic to the cause of the Senators’ captain, a Canadian team. No one likes a sore loser…

in a flurry

– To note.

– Josh Anderson: no update.

– It’s going well, business as usual.

– Hmm…

Michelle Trachtenberg dead at 39

Sad news, as CNN reports the death of actress Michelle Trachtenberg.

The star of several hit films and series from the 2000s, including Gossip Girl, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Euro Trip, had been suffering from serious health issues for several years, according to multiple sources.

No criminal activity is believed to be related to this sad news, a spokesperson for the New York Police Department also stated.

Michelle Trachtenberg was 39 years old.
