Rumor: Brady Tkachuk’s departure would be inevitable

Are Brady Tkachuk’s days with the Ottawa Senators numbered?

According to journalist Andy Strickland, Tkachuk’s departure would be inevitable and he could try to join his brother Matthew in Florida.

A post shared by Puck Empire 👑 (@puckempire)

The two Tkachuk brothers particularly stood out during the recent 4 Nations Tournament, not only because of their talent, but also for their intensity and robustness.

Brady Tkachuk showed that he was made for playoff hockey, although he hasn’t played a single playoff game since the start of his NHL career.

However, in light of these recent performances, rumors have surfaced that the younger Tkachuk might want to continue his career with a US team after starting in Canada, just like his father Keith Tkachuk did with the Winnipeg Jets and more recently Matthew with the Calgary Flames.

In fact, the older brother had forced the Flames to trade him to the Florida Panthers with a conditional fourth-round pick in 2025 in exchange for Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt, and a conditional first-round pick also in 2025.

Could the Panthers be interested in acquiring Brady Tkachuk to play with his brother? The way the two complemented each other with Team USA, it would be a great move by the team’s general manager, Bill Zito.

The American has 44 points, including 21 goals, in 56 games with the Senators this season, but he also brings a level of robustness and energy that few elite players can match.

And even if it’s not with the Panthers, he’s a player who could interest many teams in the League.

However, what would be the cost demanded by the Ottawa management?

Because the Senators can (and must) afford to be patient in Tkachuk’s case, who is in the fourth year of a 7-year contract worth $57.56 million (average annual salary of $8.22 million) that runs until the end of the 2027 season.

The team really needs to make sure it maximizes its return if it goes ahead with this trade to ensure it doesn’t take a step back in its rebuilding process.

And according to you, where will Brady Tkachuk go?

In a hurry

– Jeremy Roenick is fighting… with Justin Bieber!

– The Kings win.

– McDavid with Ovechkin’s boys.

– Lightning wins.

– And the Red Wings.

Auston Matthews responds stupidly to a journalist: honestly

Auston Matthews’ leadership is often questioned.

As captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but also more recently as captain of Team USA, which lost in the final against Canada, even though the Americans were favorites to win the game.

Let’s say it’s nothing to get rid of his reputation as a “choke artist” that has been following him for a few years.

The problem is that the role of captain is not just about being the leader of your team in the locker room, it’s also about giving more time to journalists and facing the music even when things are not going well (or when the questions are not good).

As captain of a team like the Leafs, one might think that Matthews would be used to all the media circus.

However, when asked yesterday, after his team’s 6-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, if it haunted him to have come so close to deflecting the pass (“So close to deflecting that pass, does that haunt you in any way?”), Matthews simply replied a bit stupidly “Sure, Kevin” in a way that’s similar to saying “Ok, Karen”.

A post shared by TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS (@leafspapi)

Although the journalist, probably Kevin McGran, who covers the Leafs for The Toronto Star, apologized (“I’m sorry”) immediately after Matthews’ response, it seems to me that Matthews’ answer was unnecessarily brief.

Moreover, McGran is currently writing a biography about the Maple Leafs’ captain, which will be released later this year.

In short, it’s a funny way to respond to the media.

Yes, journalists often ask obvious, or sometimes silly, questions, but it’s part of the game for a professional hockey player to answer those questions, especially if you’re the captain of a team.

It must be said that the timing was a bit strange after a win by his team and that Matthews had just taken second place in the history of the Leafs’ best scorers by scoring his 383rd career goal. We can understand that the hockey player probably wanted to focus on the positive.

But well, after losing another important game in the 4 Nations final, maybe Matthews should be a bit more careful.

In rapid fire

– Not easy!

– Subban throws gloves in a charity game.

– Rangers win.

– A nice mark for Makar.

– 500 points for Hamilton.

– Hat-trick for Desnoyers

– To read.

– The Warriors retire the number 9.

When KFC leaves… Kentucky!

The famous Kentucky Fried Chicken has just undergone a huge geographical change!

Indeed, as announced by the brand’s owner, “Yum! Brands,” KFC will officially leave the state of Kentucky to move to Plano, Texas! Pizza Hut will do the same. And for the other chains under “Yum! Brands,” such as Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill, no changes will be made, as they will remain based in Irvine, California.

We are talking about at least 100 KFC employees who will have to pack their bags to relocate to Texas, while another 90 additional employees will face the same fate within a year and a half.

The CEO of “Yum! Brands,” David Gibbs, explained this important decision through a press release, considering the impact it will have on the daily lives of their representatives.

Although the news is not at all popular in Louisville, the city where KFC was born, the leaders of “Yum! Brands” have decided to keep the KFC Foundation and their administrative offices in Kentucky, to retain part of its roots. The organization also stated that it intends to make a $1 million (US) donation to the University of Louisville’s business school, reports USA Today.

One can read between the lines that “Yum! Brands” somewhat wanted to buy peace by making this donation, but it is clear that KFC’s departure to Texas will create a void in the state of Kentucky, considering everything that this restaurant brand means in this region.

After all, the temple of Colonel Sanders has become one of the most recognized fast-food chains worldwide, so it is understandable that a mourning will be necessary for those affected.

Goodbye KFC, hello… KFT?

7 suspects arrested in the case of the serial burglaries targeting several professional athletes

Last October, on the 5th and 7th of that month, the two stars of the Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, were victims of a burglary at their respective homes.

In fact, a series of thefts occurred in this area of Kansas, and the beloved NFL duo was not spared. Moreover, no fewer than seven individuals have just been criminally charged regarding all this theft. We’re talking about seven Chileans, who face up to 10 years in federal prison. They are identified by the names of Jordan Quiroga Sanchez, Bastian Orellano Morales, Sergio Ortega Cabello, Pablo Zuniga Cartes, Ignacio Zuniga Cartes, Alexander Huiaguil Chavez, and Bastian Jimenez Freraut.

A conspiracy complaint to transport the said goods, coming from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, was filed on January 30, 2025, but it was announced just last Tuesday, February 18. It is reported that the total value of the stolen goods is even around 2 million dollars (US). It is still unclear whether the accused have managed to obtain legal counsel, but further details will certainly be disclosed soon.

It should be noted that Cabello, Chavez, Morales, and Sanchez have all pleaded not guilty to the initial charges against them in the state of Ohio, NBC News also reports.

This group is also linked to a theft valued at 1.5 million dollars (US) that occurred on November 2, 2024, in Wisconsin, involving a player from the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA. Additionally, burglaries in Cincinnati (Joe Burrow), Memphis (NBA player), and Tampa Bay (Buccaneers player) could potentially be connected to them, as these homes were also stripped while the owners were away, suffering thousands of dollars (US) in theft costs.

A$AP Rocky jumped into Rihanna’s arms after his verdict

The American rapper A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was acquitted on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, by a Los Angeles court of two criminal charges of assault with a semi-automatic weapon. This verdict concludes a three-week trial that could have resulted in a prison sentence exceeding 20 years.

At the moment the clerk announced the not-guilty verdict, A$AP Rocky rushed into the arms of his partner Rihanna, who was attending the hearing alongside the rapper’s mother and sister. The courtroom, filled with fans and loved ones, erupted in cheers.

The jury took only three hours to deliberate in reaching this verdict, thus sparing the rapper a potentially heavy sentence. “Thank you all for saving my life,” he told the jurors before their departure.

The charges stemmed from an altercation that occurred in November 2021 in Hollywood between A$AP Rocky and Terell Ephron, aka A$AP Relli, a former member of the A$AP Mob collective. The prosecution claimed that Rocky fired a semi-automatic weapon, slightly injuring Ephron’s hand. The defense, on the other hand, argued that the weapon used was a replica gun firing blank rounds, employed as a deterrent during an attack against another group member.

No material evidence could confirm the existence of a real weapon. Rocky’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, labeled Ephron a “pathological liar” and claimed that he was trying to extort his client.

On the eve of the trial, A$AP Rocky had rejected an offer from the prosecutor that proposed six months in prison in exchange for a guilty plea.

Prosecutor Nathan Hochman reacted to the verdict by stating:

“Our office remains committed to ensuring that individuals who break the law are held accountable, regardless of their status or influence. Celebrity does not place anyone above the law, and we will not waver in our pursuit of justice for the victims and the community.”

Now freed from legal threats, he can focus on his artistic and family projects with Rihanna and their two young children.

Alex Ovechkin remembers well his first time

Everyone knows: Alexander Ovechkin is a real scorer.

The great number eight got one more earlier in the day in a 7-3 Washington Capitals home win over the Edmonton Oilers, bringing his total to 29 goals in 41 games.

His three goals bring his total to 882 goals, just 13 nets away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record of 894.

There are still 25 games left for the 39-year-old veteran to break the mark this year if he stays healthy.

Let’s recall that Ovy needed 42 goals this season to break the famous mark and few people thought he would reach such a total at his age.

Especially since a fracture forced him to miss 16 games in November and December 2024.

882 goals is a lot of goals, but that doesn’t mean Ovechkin has forgotten his first time. Or rather, his first two times.

On October 5, 2005, in his first NHL game, the Russian scored his first two career goals against Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Pascal Leclaire.

Meanwhile, we learn today in an article published on TVA Sports that Ovechkin gave one of his signed jerseys to the Quebec goalie with the mention: You were #1 🙂.

A nice gesture on his part and as it turns out, we always remember our first experience!

For Leclaire, who likes to joke that “it’s me who put Ovechkin on the map” and who can finally prove to his daughters that he faced Alexander the Great, this shows his generosity and the kind of person he is.

13 goals in 25 games at the pace of the attacker, it’s very possible by the end of the season.

And while Ovy chases records, the Caps are currently atop the league standings and are one of the teams favored to win the top honors this year.

Can the great number 8 break Gretzky’s record AND win the Stanley Cup in the same year? It would definitely be a great way to end an exceptional career for the great Russian player.

In a hurry

– Incredible!

– 83 points in just 10 games!

– A first start.

– Season over!

P.K. Subban : “Crosby deserves better than that. It’s Kyle Dubas’ fault.”

P.K. Subban is not afraid to speak his mind. Just before the famous final between Canada and the United States at the 4 Nations Tournament, he published a tweet about a comment from Donald Trump that left much to be desired. Moreover, a former player, Akim Aliu, gave him a pretty intense blast. Not later than yesterday, Subban gave his thoughts on Kyle Dubas’ work as GM and president of operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins. During an intermission on ESPN, the former star defenseman criticized Dubas after the team’s collapse. The Penguins are currently ranked 27th in the NHL.

PK Subban just RIPPED Kyle Dubas on national television. “You’re getting paid 7 million dollars a year. Give Mike Sullivan better players, give Sidney Crosby a team to play with. If you’re going to rebuild, rebuild. Pick a lane. It’s on you.” Embarrassing times for the pens

« You are paid 7 million dollars a year. Give Mike Sullivan better players, give Sidney Crosby a team to play with. If you want to rebuild, rebuild. Choose a lane. It’s your fault. » – P.K. Subban

Let’s say the former Montreal Canadiens defenseman didn’t mince his words to get his message across. But that’s what makes Subban, Subban. However, there’s a nuance to be added to P.K.’s statement. He’s asking Dubas to choose a path, but clearly, he has. As Scott Wheeler mentions in this tweet, the Penguins seem clearly in rebuilding mode. After all, they’re the team with the most picks in the first three rounds of the next three drafts with 15. The Blackhawks and Canadiens have 14.

I’ve seen this tweet going around a lot. The Penguins have 15 picks in the first three rounds of the next three drafts — more than any other team in the league (Blackhawks and Canadiens have 14). Kyle has picked a lane.

Subban should start doing his homework before criticizing a general manager. Isn’t that logical?

Rapid Fire

– Jakub Dobes and Arber Xhekaj did a Q&A session with fans while playing NHL25.
Jakub Dobes and Arber Xhekaj are live NOW on Twitch and YouTube for a gaming session presented by Under Armour
– Three more goals for Ovechkin, who is only 13 goals away from surpassing Wayne Gretzky.
THERE IT IS!! OVECHKIN HATTY! We are witnessing history ladies and gentlemen
– With the goal in an empty net, that’s now 15 goals in 24 hours (approximately). The Capitals are not first in the NHL for nothing.
The Capitals have scored 14 goals in the past 24 hours (game started at 3:20 yesterday) with some time left today.
– It shows how Ovechkin is in a class of his own.
Highest goals/game pace in Ovechkin’s career: 0.79 — 2007/08 0.71 — 2008/09 0.71 — 2024/25 0.71 — 2019/20 0.67 — 2012/13 0.65 — 2013/14 Is this Ovechkin’s third prime?
– By the way, McMichael is the fourth Capitals player to reach the 20-goal plateau this season.
Connor McMichael reaches 20 goals in a season for the first time. He’s Capitals fourth player to reach 20 this season, joining Ovechkin (28), Wilson (26) and Protas (23)

Mikko Rantanen: The Hurricanes made him a nine-figure offer

Mikko Rantanen played his seventh game in the Hurricanes uniform last night. He collected an assist in his club’s loss to the Leafs in Toronto. This now gives him a total of three points (only one goal) since his arrival in Carolina. Obviously, it’s not going super well for him right now. He is seen as one of the best attackers in the league, after all… But he doesn’t necessarily look like one of the best attackers in the league lately. However, even if things are going less well, the Hurricanes’ management is not worried about him. That’s at least what I tell myself… when we learn that the Canes made him an offer in the nine figures during the 4 Nations Confrontation. This information was shared by Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet last night.

An offer in the nine figures (at least $100 million for the duration of the agreement)… That’s at least $12.5 million per season. We agree that it’s a lot, a lot of money. Rantanen has proven himself in the past: he has three seasons with more than 90 points (92, 105, and 104) one season with 55 goals, he helped his club win the Stanley Cup (21-22) by accumulating 25 points in 20 playoff games… And so, we know his qualities. He has a powerful (and precise) shot, his game vision is elite, he’s big on his skates… All this to say that Rantanen has what it takes to earn a salary like that. And at the same time, it’s logical to see the Hurricanes do everything to keep him in town since they sent Martin Necas to Colorado in the transaction. It remains to be seen if Rantanen will sign a new agreement with the Hurricanes or if his club will (again) trade him. Because this possibility is also on the table…

In a hurry

– The fans were spoiled for this skills competition.

– The Washington Capitals could finally count on Tom Wilson this afternoon, who left the last game. He even scored his 26th of the season, joining Ovechkin at the top of the club.

– The Oilers’ power play isn’t as dangerous as Canada’s, but it’s still scary.

– Some news from the Boston Bruins.

Arber Xhekaj throws gloves during the shootout

Arber Xhekaj has more than one quality in his bag.

He’s big, he’s physical, he’s capable of fighting… But we mustn’t forget one aspect of his game.

Arber Xhekaj is also endowed with a good shot. And we saw it today!

He’s the one who notably won the most powerful shot event at the Canadiens’ skills competition today.

He won with a shot at 101.2 miles per hour!

Note that this is the second year in a row that we see the Sheriff flying in this event.

He’s keeping his title, then:

Arber really had fun today and he made sure to be funny to entertain the people on site as well.

During the shootout, we saw him throw his gloves (as a joke) to score his goal.

The Canadiens’ defenseman really seems to be in a good mood after the win against the Sens last night:

The Canadiens’ organization did things big today to allow the children present on site to experience a great moment.

Even Mike Matheson’s son stole the show during the fastest skater event!

In the shootout, we also saw Youppi! score. And the fans applauded the Canadiens’ mascot as they should:

We can feel that the atmosphere is good right now around the team and at this level, it’s sure that yesterday’s win did some good.

So much the better, honestly. Because it’s the fans who benefited from it today at the Centre Bell!

Overtime

Note that the shootout session also gave the right to a beautiful goal: that of Juraj Slafkovsky.

The Canadiens’ forward fooled the goalkeeper with a feint that we never see:
