Céline Dion on raising twins

French-Canadian pop singer opens up about the joys and tribulations of being a new mother and taking care of two babies at the same time.

Ten weeks after giving birth to her twin boys, Nelson and Eddy, like most new moms, Céline Dion is “coping day by day,” according to an interview in French magazine Gala.

In the interview, the star, 42, said being a mother of twins is not always easy, but it is immensely rewarding. She’s especially thankful for the help of her mother Thérèse and her sister Linda who take care of the household, allowing the singer to focus on her children.

"I didn’t have these kids to not take care of them and not give myself to them 200-300 per cent. I am changing diapers, breastfeeding and that’s something where no one can take my place. It’s exhausting, but an intense joy. I take things one day at a time,” said Dion.

After giving birth, the singer said she experienced a loss of appetite and a change in mood, which others around her also noticed, but her mother reassured her that everything was normal.

“Some of the first days after I came home, I was a little outside myself. I had no appetite and that bothered me. My mother remarked that she noticed I had moments of lifelessness, but reassured me that this was entirely normal.”

She also experienced mood swings, telling the magazine, “One moment, tremendous happiness; the next, fatigue sets in, and I cried for no reason, and then that took care of itself. It’s for things like that after having a baby that mothers really need emotional support.”

Both eldest son René-Charles, 9, and husband René Angélil, 68, are thrilled with the twins. She says René-Charles is a model big brother who can’t wait to play baseball with his younger brothers.

Céline Dion will begin rehearsals mid-January for her return to Las Vegas in March, but in the meantime, she loves being a new mom and is just taking it day by day.
