Céline Hits the Big Screen

The backstage documentary on Céline Dion’s Taking Chances tour will soon be shown in theatres.

Like the recent Michael Jackson documentary, Céline Dion will present behind-the-scenes footage from her tour, reports Le Journal de Montréal.

Produced by Productions J, Céline… through the eyes of the world has captivated Sony Pictures so much that they have decided to make it into a 1-hour, 52-minute documentary, hitting the big screen on May 9 in North America. The big premieres will take place in Montreal and Los Angeles.

Three Productions J cameras followed the Taking Chances tour across the world for 15 months, from February 2008 to April 2009. The 135-show tour pulled in over 200 million dollars.

With Jean Lamoureux as the director, Stéphane Laporte went through 25 000 hours of footage to edit the film.

We will see Céline on stage, but will mostly get a behind-the-scenes look at her life with her husband, René Angélil, their son, René-Charles, and Céline’s mother. The cameras followed them everywhere, even to the doctor’s office in Australia before the singer was forced her to cancel her shows due to her health.

Dion and Angélil, with the help of Denise Roberts, were involved in the filmmaking process, and helped decide which scenes were to appear on the documentary.
